*Some additional thoughts on elevation accuracy and the barometric altimeter:*
A barometric altimeter is technically the more accurate way of measuring altitude when compared to GPS data. However, by its very nature, it’s a sensitive device that is prone to inaccuracies caused by external forces. Damp conditions, or dirt in the sensor hole can dramatically affect its performance.
Strava knows what computer types use a barometric altimeter, and it refers to only these devices when recording historic elevation data. Strava uses the average median of every barometric altimeter based activity to record this data. Therefore, if you use the Strava “Correct Elevation’ function, you will ‘theoretically’ see the most correct recording of elevation for your activity. Garmin Connect doesn’t offer this function. Garmin has not been as open with its processes, so it’s not known if Garmin Connect uses historic barometric altimeter or GPS data for route planning.
A couple of tips to determine if your computer is recording accurate elevation:
*Ensure your computer is running the most up to date firmware
*Check in your computer's setting as to how it is measuring elevation. Some allow you to switch between barometric altimeter and GPS data.
*If you always start a ride from the same location, then set the elevation in your computer to your location. Go to whatismyelevation.com/ to determine the elevation for your area. Then Google “Set the correct elevation in a xxx cycling computer’ to determine how to set it in your specific computer.
*Compare it to others. If you regularly ride with others people, look to see what their elevation is for their activity.
*Use the ‘Correct Elevation’ tool in Strava. If you regularly see massive discrepancies in the Strava data when compared to what your computer is recording, then there may be an issue with your barometric altimeter

Just seen this. This has been added post video. Previous technical specifications have it with a dash going through it. I’ll get this checked with iGPSPORT for clarification.
Certainly, BSC300 and every other gps head unit has a barometer. You can confirm this by raising your arm up above your head and down to the floor to see changes in elevation.
I don't need the high end bells and whistles, this is what I need .

Then I looked for one with navi and last year the then new iGS 620 (the forerunner of the iGS 630) was released and I bought it. The heart rate/speed/cadence sensors I had from the iGS50E. As a 71yo just riding for fun the iGS620 does everything I need

One thing I like with the BSC unit is that they have the plastic buttons. I have used the Lezyne Mega XL and Elemnt Bolt with rubberized buttons and those buttons will self-destruct after years of use.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago as my first bike computer. Does what I need it to do as a new rider. Easy interface, sensors all work and connect easily. Support has been great I had a response within hours, new user issue working out how to sync Strava routes. Very well built system allowing me to show off the new toy to the boys. But as a new user the negatives could possibly updated with firmware and development of the eco system. Lots to learn myself but syncs with Strava so the heavy lifting has been done. Unfortunately being in Australia I can't seem to find the sr30 available but when compared to the Garmin suite of products we all don't need Ferraris when the Toyota does exactly what we need nothing more for the price. Just bought the BSC300. Now I'm used to how it works I'm really happy with it. I found setting it up and figuring out the controls very unintuitive and frustrating. The big brands put a lot of cash into making the user interface smooth. For the money I'm really pleased with the unit and find the data perfect for me as a recreational cyclist.

I've got the IGS630 version and super impressed by it , it has some of the features that you miss , like iclimb etc so that might be better suited to you ? .. they are around the £200 mark through amazon but got mine for £157 on sale ....I'm a massive wahoo fan and so the unit had plenty to live up too and the IGS 630 surpassed my wahoo

I've been seeing Garmin Edge 530 units on sale for 160 quid. For functionaity and peace of mind, I'd likely go for the 530. I've had one for over a year and it's been good.
Rear radar is a different question. Varias are pretty expensive. Magene and other brands seem to be as good for around half the price. And they're compatible with the Garmin head units.

I have been using an iGPSPORT head unit for about four years. Never had any issues with it riding the hills and vales around Adelaide.
The discrepancy in altitude numbers I can live with, although it is a bit annoying.
I've noticed using GPS data produces variable elevation on a few apps I have on my phone so I assume the different apps and head units use slightly different algorithms when applying the GPS data.
The differences are not huge and I'm past the point in my cycling where I really need critically accurate elevation data.
The other members of my family also use iGPSPORT head units and I definitely will get another when my current one (iGS618) finally dies.
My previous head unit was a Lezyne that had a disappointingly short life.

I am killing time by waiting for my to arrive, but a few notes.
I bought one for 110 Euros, without the out front mount. That is less than half the price of a wahoo elmnt bolt v2 or garmin 540 or the bryton headunits.
This seems like the perfect replacement for a wahoo elmnt bolt v1, instead of going to a bolt v2. Dumb navigation (you need a pre-planed route), no touchscreen, decent battery life.
Elevation thingy is a problem, however I observed a big difference between different headunits.
Them using a standard garmin mount is also a big win, the 3rd party market is huge.
For casual riders this a easy thing to recommend

Do training peaks work outs automaticly load into it? And if they do do they tell you when your in the right heartrate zone to stick to the workout?

Good review. Since zwift forced me to buy a heart rate monitor I'm seeing the benefits and am now contemplating a head unit to link it to when I'm doing real cycling. This looks like it might be just thing. Cheers!

I'm not a user of Zwift, but I agree that you should always use a heart rate monitor. I always advise people the HRM is like a rev counter for your body. I have a 'Red' zone set up on my head unit, and I know if I go into the red, I won't be able to sustain that effort. Also, tools like Strava have a better idea of how hard you've worked if you wear one.

Good morning, I own the IGPSPORT BSC300 and I have some questions. I would like to know if it has the CLIMP function, that is, if it can analyze the elevation and how much is left to finish, etc., similar to how GARMIN does with the ClimbPro function. Or is this a feature exclusive to the high-end model of this brand

Seems alright for a basic computer I just went for a edge explore 2 after some dreadful initial experience with it after some updates it's finally to a useable point Garmin seem to treat us as beta testers rather than releasing a polished product.
Yeah, the little BSC300 is alright for the money.
Friend had the original Explore...... Seemed like a good bit of kit for touring or adventure. It was another one that didn't have a Barometric Altimeter. Good to see they addressed that on the new one. Fingers crossed it's now polished!
Any recommendations for what GPS settings to use? There's 5 of them I think, combining different GPS satellites? A few of my rides seem short by a couple miles, I've downloaded the local maps. Only thing I've done since the last ride it shorted me miles was turn off the autopause feature. It's annoying anyways when I'm on rough climbs as a MTBer and have to get off here and there to walk short section. I have a speed and cadence sensor also.

GPS:
For the US, use GLONASS (the Russian satellite system), as the consensus is that is the most accurate for worldwide use. GALILEO (European Union satellite system), is considered better in the UK. My advice, try both, and see how you do.
Auto Pause:
Well, I'm a roadie, so I personally use it. But I see your point. I can't remember, can you fine-tune the auto pause to kick in at a specified mph like you can on a Garmin? If you can, that may help.
Sensors:
Cadence.... great, gives your apps like Strava more of an idea as to how hard you're working. Speed...... I personally don't see the point in this nowadays, as GPS is a more accurate way to measure this. Saying that though, I'd listen to an argument for them.

I own their IGS520 model since January, it is a solid unit. The one and only failure I've experienced was the lost connection with the cadence sensor (Magene). But the problem was solved during the ride by removing and inserting back the battery in the sensor, so I think it could be just a mishap of hitting the sensor with my foot or something like that. It has never appeared again. However, my concern with this brand is the product lifetime. Few months ago the model I own disappeared from the list of units on the firmware update page (it is not even listed as discontinued), I'm not sure what to think about that. To be clear, I don't need an update, because the unit and the app both work flawlessly, but this is just intriguing.
By the way, you've said that you are not happy with the altitude meter in this unit not being based on barometric pressure sensor. Common sense says if the position tracking is accurate, the altitude differences based on that info should be more precise than barometric pressure sensor. That's because the barometric pressure sensor is prone to weather (barometric pressure) changes during the ride and therefore can give distorted results. But I'm not an expert by any means in this area, maybe there is something I missed? It was just intriguing to hear what you said.

IGS520 disappearing. To be honest, I see that as an issue. If an external device (The app for example) has a dramatic change/update, then the devices that work alongside it may need to be update too, in order for the two to continue working together.

Good question. The only way of accessing the 'Maps' folder within the device, that I can think of, is via a PC. As I say, you need to download the map into a local folder, and then dray-and-drop the map into the Maps folder within the device. You don't need to be logged into the iGPSPORT website to do it, so you could give the device to someone with a PC, and ask them to do it for you.

Thanks for the review, good stuff. I've just checked their website and the BSC300 still isn't listed for map download or firmware updates. That's a deal breaker for me as as a group ride leader I absolutely need TBT navigation straight away. Also will I need to replace all my Garmin outfront mounts?
Hi Carl, they need to sort the map/firmware page. It was there last week! I’ve emailed them. I’m not sure if the maps for the other units will work on the 300. The out front mount is the standard Garmin 1/4 turn.

Interesting, Thejuampi. Do you correct via Strava then?
I'm training for the Everesting challenge and using a lightweight Garmin Edge 130 Plus for altimeter and power meter sensor functions. The Garmin barometric altimeter does not function in poor weather conditions, it's useless on cloudy drizzly nights. The data goes from defined peaks to blurred wobbles. I have to use the Strava app's GPS altitude calculator on my phone to get a better reading for elevation.
You’re not on your own with that issue. The Barometric Altimeter on the vast majority of units, yours included reads pressure via a hole in the bottom of the unit. If that blocks or fills with water, then the readings are all over the place.

To be fair, I suspect all units will struggle in colder conditions. Additionally, the older the battery, the bigger this problem is.
i also got the BSC300. How did you get it to show the DI2 battery stats? Mine only shows the battery icon with a question mark (?).
You just add your Bluetooth enabled Di2 as a sensor to the BSC300. Does your Di2 have Bluetooth functionality? If it's the last version (12 speed) then it has Bluetooth built in, but Bluetooth is an option on all previous versions. Watch this for more info:

Thanks for the suggestion. I have the 105 Di2 12-speed. After adding it to the BSC300, i can see the gear ratio. But for some reason the battery stats is not reflected.
Hi, does anybody know how frequently they will release map updates? Or is there an alternate option like OpenStreetMaps for iGPSPORT? What I like about Garmin is the compatibility with OSM which ensures up to date maps.
I can't imagine they're updated that often. Have you tried using an OpenStreetMaps tile on a iGPSPORT unit?

The 50quid BSC100 to replace an old Garmin unit and boy do you get some bang for your buck. More than enough stats for my nerdy self.

Altitude calculations on the Garmin devices have always puzzled and amused me. When I ride a loop, winding up exactly at my starting point, the ascent and descent numbers never match. They may differ by as much as 10%... so just how accurate is that barometric sensor?
Hi Andrew. They're never that accurate, as they're just measuring atmospheric pressure. To be honest, a 10% variation is normal. I used to ride exactly the same loop every lunchtime, I did it every day for years. No two were ever the same.

I've read up on it, but I've not experienced the Bryton personally. Obviously, the mono screen is the only obvious difference........ but I think the user interface is probably what you need to know about, after all, the Bryton does seem to cover every other need.

Hi iv noticed the igpsport website no longer has the map download for this unit.im assuming the maps are already installed.
Any idea why when I make up a route manually on the app and try to Bluetooth it across it to the bsc300 it doesn't show up yet it says it's gone across to it.yet on the app if I send across other cyclists maps randomly they show up on the unit fine.
Im probably doing something wrong ,any ideas.cheers.

No, I hadn't noticed this. It was there last week! I suspect there may be an issue with their latest software revision, and maybe that is why you are having issues, and they have removed all download options for the BSC300. But I am just guessing here.
If I were you, I'd drop their support team an email via service@igpsport.com
In the meantime, you may want to try and download the route from the iGPSPORT website to your PC, plug the USB cable in, and drag and drop the route into the routes folder on the unit.
Please keep me posted with this issue, Giles, as people need to know about any problems.

Great review by the way. I purchased for £115(£92 with discount!!) this week and happy so far. You do need maps pulled down via website. But as said atm BSC300 is missing firmware/maps and also nothing mentioned in the Support area of their site. Odd that it's been out a while but no info/help etc. maybe just a blip at their end. Sent an email to address. Without the maps it's just breadcrumb etc.
@@ribblevalleycyclist hi Jon just an update .I emailed igpsport and they wanted to analyze the routes in question and also the website is being updated or something.
In the meantime iv noticed that if I create a route in the laptop and save it which I think is a faff to be honest (not the most computer savvy ,) it then populates in my phone app and I can then send it across to the bsc300 fine.
What I have noticed is the route created in website has Chinese writing and the same route created in app says Cheshire the area I live in.the app route wont appear in the bsc300.
I used it on a ride for first time today and I would have liked to have set up an actual navigation but alas I rode willy nilly and that route gets saved in the activities section of the piece of kit.
Im hoping this will get resolved as I really don't want to be plugging into laptop all the time.i wanted convenience really just using my smart phone to link.other than that I'm struggling to understand some of the actual screen images as I'm riding but I'm getting there.total novice as you can tell.its a great piece of kit otherwise.😂.cheers.

I purchased a Garmin Explore 2 earlier this year. Its elevation numbers were 70% higher than what my Garmin Connect planned courses were showing. I contacted Garmin and they couldn’t figure out the problem so I returned it. The Explore 2 has the barometric altimeter, so that’s no guarantee of accuracy.

Totally agree i had the Garmin 520 & 130 & Wahoo Bolt. The 520 is ridiculously complicated and the Garmin buttocks are terrible! This is also much better than Bolt.
No, because Garmin is not just a Garmin device and sensors. It has something called Garmin Connect that is valued the most. Software before hardware. People never learn. 😉
Agreed, sort of. Both the Garmin Connect app and website give you a lot of data relating to your activity. But to play Devils Advocate, not everyone wants that, and they're happy with the basic information that Strava gives them. Additionally, if they wanted to extract a little more data, then they could use free tools like Elevate or sauce4strava. This will never give them what Garmin Connect does, but it will give them more than Strava. As I said in the video, if you just need a simple device to record your activities, it's great.
Garmin elevation calculations are notorious for being bad. It's not a feature!

I found the Roam in most places was around £200, but I couldn't find the newer version of the Bold for less than £250. Also, you can get the BSC300 for £126 if you shop around. But agreed, the Wahoo kit is good, and if you can get it at the right price, then it's a good choice.
I changed my edge520 by iGSPORT 630...,my FTP with 61yo = 333W..., and NEVER more I comeback to Garmin... and my next computer be iGSPORT 800..., Garmin ?? never more!

This video is 7 months old now, I imagine it's expired by now.
BSC 300 HAS BAROMETRIC ALTIMETER AND IT'S MENTIONED ON THEIR WEBSITE
It is mentioned now. When this video was produced, there was no mention of a barometric sensor on either their literature or on their website. I checked, and double checked. However, it was listed on more ‘Premium’ models. They either revised the design, or revised the marketing. Additionally, there is no sign of the hole you need for a barometric sensor, and the tests prove the unit has an issue determining elevation.

I'm selling a brand new boxed igpsport bcs 100 for £33!
All this other rubbish DI2 or segments are not needed in riding a bike, kinda spoils the fun. This unit i own works brilliantly without any faults. So glad i saved money and didn't bother with garmin wahoo.
I think there is a lot to be said for the budget computer...... It does most of the things that most of us need.
The igpsport might jot be as perfect as the garmin but hang on . I brought my one for £130. The garmin is 200 quid more !!!!!! You pay for the brand name ! Garmin are a total rip off !
I think there are two sides to this argument, Matthew:
1. Big brands spend fortunes on slick marketing and advertising and then charge too much for the product.
2. Small brands spend nothing on R & D, copy the big brands, then just charge less.
You see it all the time. Just look at the car brand Kia. Look how far they've come in just 10 years. Do you think they would've achieved that if they didn't copy the likes of Ford and Toyota?
One thing is for sure though, the BSC300 is a lot of computer for the money.

Interesting, what makes you think that? Is it because of all of the other systems on offer?
@@ribblevalleycyclist because they ran out off innovations (no more new functions are actually needed) and price becomes a crucial factor. I switched to IGS from Garmin and feel happy, guess more people will stop paying premium for tons of useless hard&soft features while all they really need can be found at $100-devises from a bunch of Chinese brands
I love that computer when it works.......used it for a season, towards end of season it would stop syncing with phone and i would lose the ride data by having to reset the computer to repair to phone.
300£ for a stupid GPS is already too much
