I am Japanese-American and this day impacted my family greatly. I could say a lot but let me tell you about my grandfather. He was in Los Angeles when he heard about the attack over his car radio. He would join the army (once they allowed Japanese-Americans to serve again) and served as a code breaker and interpreter in the Pacific. Later he would be assigned to MacArthur's camp during the post-war occupation. During those years, he and a friend in the same unit would seek out distant relatives he had never met in person and deliver duffel bags full of food and supplies. He was quiet about that time and never boastful about his service. He passed some years ago at age 103.

16:38 guess this guy has never heard about the raid on Taranto November 11/12 1940 in which the brits surprised the italians in their main southern harbor. It is what gave Yamamoto the idea to attack Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese sent envoys to Taranto after the raid to interview the Italian survivors, inspect the damage and study the depth of the harbor. Intel that would be used to devastating effect at Pearl.

So much respect for these sailors and all who had witnessed it. What upsets me the most is that there so many negligent people who cant even remember the date Pearl Harbour happened. These wars are sadly being forgotten by the new generations
They arent being taught basic American history. They are oblivious to the weight of their personal responsibility to ensure that the constitution be upheld. Worst of all is that its by design. We, as parents, were happy to have the kids out of our hair while they went off to school. We were negligent in our responsibility to investigate their education. Covid brought their their teachers home and for the first time, we found to our horror the utter indoctrination being perpetrated on their pliable young minds!

US CVs weren't present at the time of the attack. The entire reason why the US was able to retaliate so early was because of them. As for US BBs at Pearl Harbor, it took several years before they were serviceable.
@@benn454 not trying to sound like I'm backtracking, however that's what I meant by several years. (Although looking back I could have just edited my original comment lol)
USS Pennsylvania was not sunk. In fact it was in drydock. USS Tennessee was lightly damaged, USS Maryland was damaged but nowhere near being "sunk". How can they omit 3 of 8 BBs and say they all were sunk.
This was so much better than most of the documentaries I've seen on this topic. Great production value. The game graphics add so much, like back when History Channel used to use Rome: Total War footage in docs in the 2000s.
BTW this isnt much but the Americans technically shot first. They saw an enemy midget submarine near their harbour and sunk it. I'm not saying the attack on pearl harbour wasn't devastating but yeah america did first blood. (I'm just saying facts I mean search up Montemayor's video on it)
Yamamoto was the smartest mother f-er in the room, and no one listened. NOT EVEN HIMSELF - such was his blind conviction to his Emperor. (And I don't believe in revisionists and pussification history. The Emperor should have hanged with Tojo.)
Kind of hard to tell the truth when the nation you swore to protect was so blinded by victory in China and so ignorant that it believed its own propaganda has fact. It doesn't help when you have the Army and Navy so hostile against each other that they would rather kill each other than help one another despite being at war.
Was stationed at Scofield Barracks with the 25th Infantry, went to the memorial twice once with my Company the other by myself, very humbling experience thinking of those brave souls entombed there forever, God Bless them and all that was there on that faithful day
I’ve actually visited pearl harbour and stood above the USS Arizona. Words cannot describe the awe and despair I felt seeing the ruined battleship that had become a tomb for so many. It’s honestly harrowing, there’s seeing it in a book or on a screen, then there’s standing over the real thing. It’s crazy
Im 17 and about to Join the Navy, yet I hate my generation because most of them actually dont care on how many brave lives where taken on this day, the sailors that manned their battle-stations and fought back towards the hostiles. These men deserve our respect, which none of my generation don’t appreciate. May their brave souls never be forgotten⚓️
I understand your ambitions in the Armed Forces, but saying "none" of our generation don't appreciate the triumphs and sacrifices of our servicemen at the time is plain wrong, and I hate that we get that stigma. Instead of supporting it, we should be saying something along the lines of "there are still some in my generation who care about the many brave lives taken on this day."

She was in the Gulf of Maine on Dec 7th. TEXAS was in the Atlantic squadron in early 1939. She was in Casco Bay, Maine on Dec 7th. NEW MEXICO actually had been in Pearl Harbor starting December 6th a year before. She was moved on May 20th to Norfolk, Virginia. Likely she was transiting the Panama Canal on Dec 7th (along with ramming and sinking the Freighter Oregon). NEW YORK was one of several battleships that had served as a training ship prior to 1939. She was eventually sent off to receive a refit at a drydock in Norfolk, Virginia, which is where she was on Dec 7th.

My parents in Portland were listening to the radio, and waiting for a friend who was a Naval, later Marine aviator. My mother was going to receive her first plane ride in a rented Civilian aircraft. The friend called and told of the attack, which was also being announced on the radio. Needless to say, the flight lesson was cancelled.
17:27 the overlay of the audio got me choked up. I can't imagine what that must have felt like thinking you're in what is probably the safest outpost of the war and getting told to you're about to fight.
Respect for the video wargaming. Because of this attack had 3 family members that fought in ww2 from different sides of the family. 1 was a destroyer crewman. The other and his brother flew b-17's over germany. The brother was shot down and died in the crash. Never met the man who flew the b-17's he passed before i came around. The other never spoke of his time on the destroyer. We found the medals of the man who flew B-17's in an old cabin he built himself. 2 silver stars and a bronze star were among them. Tucked away in a night stand. For years i only knew he was in the army i only recently found out he was Army aircorp flying b-17's after some discussion about my own merits after 6 years of service in the usaf. 2006-2012. Dam shame i never met him. But thank you for the videos none the less.
People like your family members are the reason my great uncle, Corporal Ira Hayes did what he did, (he didn't want anyone forgotten about.) It was because of him, that we know the identities of the men who raised the flag on Iwo Jima. In the photo he's the one second from the end.
I went to Pearl Harbor as the last stop on a cruise in Hawaii a decade ago. I felt the feelings of viewing directly into the past from there. Such events must never be forgotten. As history does show us in the end, the past is what brings us to the present. And it is this history that provides us with the foundation for us to make sure that events like these NEVER happen again.

The US Submarine U.S. DOLPHIN was there that day sharing a mooring with other subs. A customer of mine, a Mr. Krebs was on board. His vessel shared the downing of a Japanese plane. These documentaries are great. This game and especially these naval legends videos made me really interested in 20th century warships. Huge respect to all those who have fallen
My great grandfather was a WW2 Navy vet who was originally assigned to the Missouri, aka the Mighty Moe, for engine room work. He was aboard her when she was christened but when it was time for her to sail down the east coast and to the Pacific, he “jumped ship” meaning he was essential personnel and abandoned his post. After serving 6 months in the brig he was assigned to a supply ship. During that time his job was to bring troops in and bring wounded out during the last few battles. I say all of this because every anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor I wonder what he was thinking at the time and due to his original assignment I have a special connection to the Missouri
my uncle was there when the attack happened. He was stationed there and survived. He couldn't talk much about it but did say he was near the mouth of the entrance when it started. Too painful. He did say the days leading up to it were odd, not the usual movements of ships and people..meaning the carriers were out to sea, etc...like this was known to happen in advance....
They did have prior reports (USS Ward) to Pearl Harbor, but there was no concrete evidence of the engagement. It wasn't until 2002 that the midgit sub the Ward engaged was found (with a perfect 3" hole in the conning tower right where the Ward said she hit.)
When I was in Hawaii I want a board of memorial there it was an awesome sight my dad had a couple of cousins on there who got killed May all those sailors rest in peace
This was incredibly well done! This should be shared everywhere, shown especially to young people, lest we forget the price that was paid for our precious freedom. God bless the memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great Nation at Pearl Harbor.
The Major issue right now is, whether by Apathy or Design, We ARE forgetting the lessons of Pearl Harbor & I suspect that the costs paid for that lapse will be just as high if not higher.

@@i_nameless_i-jgsdf Actually, that's half truth, the Japanese Military and the government still want to fight, but the Hirohito wanted to go out, in fact, he has planned to surrender after April 1945 when US invaded Leyte, he has started meeting with internal minister and the west discussing the term, however, the term were unfavorable to him (right up to August 10) because the west ask for an unconditional surrender, which will remove him from power, and this is something Hirohito do not want to accept. Fast forward to August 10, after the 2 bombs and the Soviet invasion in the Far East, the situation is the same, the military want to fight on, but Hirohito wants a way out, and this is when the American change their suddender condition. To allow Hirohito stay in power, but report to MacArthur and appointed MacArthur as the overseer of occupation Japan. Which would lay way to let Hirohito stay as a king after the occupation status is removed in 1948. Only then Hirohito ordered Japan to surrender. It is also noted that on August 14, the day Hirohito talk to his own house about accepting the Potsdam, Prince Asaka ask Hirohito "Would Japan fight on if Kokutai cannot be preserved" (Kokutai is the royal accensention in Japan) To which Hirohito answered "Of Course", which mean if the surrender still include removal of the king, they will fight on. If the condistion did not change, the Japanese would most definitely keep on fighting even with Russia on the enemy list for sure. But at the end, I would like to say Diplomacy prevailed and no more unnecessary bloodshed, and saved many US life and Russian live. One would have to imagine tho, what would happen if Japan stil refused to surrender and goes to war with Russia? Would Soviet Union still be that powerful during cold war?
@@i_nameless_i-jgsdf There was also the threat of a 3rd weapon, which Truman and others stated, although the U.S knew they had no 3rd weapon, and that Hirohito and some of Japan was exhausted.
Hearing the US National Anthem as the Japanese planes started their attack runs was very unnerving and chilling. RIP to all sailors and pilots who fought that day. even though it was devastating in the moment, this one event drove the US to join the war against tyranny, and changed world history forever.

God bless your grandfather. A true American hero!!!!!!

I believe this was my first viewing of a video by World of Warships. It was a wonderful presentation.
I really love this series.
((Still sad that the episode about Bismarck was a disappointment))
Really? I still have to watch it... was it so bad?
Thank you for this production. Those salvage sailors had balls of steel.
Hearing the US National Anthem as the Japanese planes started their attack runs was very unnerving and chilling. RIP to all sailors and pilots who fought that day. even though it was devastating in the moment, this one event drove the US to join the war against tyranny, and changed world history forever.
A decent Documentry on Pearl Harbor. An amazing job for a Gaming Company. Thanks
