Amira has such a pure voice. I first came across her when she was on one of those “(insert country) Got Talent”. She sang opera even then, and at 9 yrs old and was SELF TAUGHT. I was blown away and when she sang it brought a tear to my eye, that’s how beautiful her voice is.

She is now 19 and this year sang Gesu Bambino in an empty church in the Netherlands, her father playing the organ and boyfriend with the camera.
When she debuted on "Holland's Got Talent", one of the judges said she was like a reincarnation of Maria Callas, and it occurred to me that "Amira" is an anagram of "Maria."

This beautiful aria with music by Ennio Morricone from the film “The Mission,” and lyrics added by Chiara Ferraù is about an imaginary world of peace and harmony. I presume the implication is that this is the fantasy of the missionary which provokes enormous irony. The “mission” of the missionary is to persuade the indigenous people to abandon their cultural traditions and superstitions in favor of the missionary’s culture and superstitions. Europeans generally regarded indigenous peoples to be “savages” in need of “salvation.” So the fantasy is presumably about a world of European culture and superstition, rather than of any sort of diversity or inclusion. The first 2 minutes is another Ennio Morricone composition called "The River" with the voices of the Mzansi Youth Choir, then Amira comes on stage for Nella Fantasia.
