Brilliant video! This spiked up my curiosity about dandelions again, thank you. Although it's called "coffee" because of it's appearance and taste, this is more like a tea made by infusion. Some know it as dandelion root tea. It's absolutely wonderful in terms of medicinal benefit, this little plant might just save us from the worst diseases at some point. Cheers to the dandelions!
I highly recommend adding a tiny pinch of powdered cinnamon and a tiny pinch of powdeted aniseed. It really rounds the flavors. You could also make dandelion honey and use that as sweetener
My martial arts instructor was cured of third-degree lung cancer by a diet of dandelion juice and having all pressure points stimulated daily. It was rough going but he did it with the chiropractors help.
dandelion is the best detox agent on the planet and there are lots of other amazing uses for dandelion. they are so powerful! that's why it's so hard to get rid of them and why big pharma and and monsanto are in bed together. if we used all the plants that we have in nature .. that we've been brainwashed to believe are "weeds" then we wouldn't need pharma drugs.
Hello from Sweden. Found this clip yesterday. Today I made my own coffee and I am sold. Tasted amazing. Will try to make enough to take me though the next winter. Thank you so much. Ove from Sweden
FYI when you boil the coffee it kills the medical side of this root. Keep it under 180 and let it steep for 1 minute . In other words bring the water up to but shy of boil set to the side let steep. ENJOY!! I have been drinking this for just over two week and my liver spots on my arm and hands are fading. Dandelion root detoxes the liver and kidney and it tastes Great!!
maybe boiling it keeps it from acting like a great diuretic, and one doesn't have to keep going to the toilet ;-) I know if I buy dandelion root tea and I brew it like a normal green tea, I have to be careful not to drink more than 2 cups, or it makes me get the runny poops :-( here is a tip for a nice side dish in the spring, take a bunch of fresh open flowers, dip in egg and roll in flower and fry in butter till golden brown, taste a little like fried Morel mushrooms cooked the same way.
Definitely have to wash all that dirt off or it will just taste like fresh ground. btw- Wait until the flowers are gone before you take the plants. Bees will appreciate this.
Don't throw away the leaves. They make a good salad or side dish. I just made dandelion salad/side plate using all roots, stems/leaves, and the flower. Blanch 2 minutes, drain and quickly rinse in cold water. Mix with yogurt salad dressing. Delicious!
My Uncle Fabian used to make Dandelion Wine. He was a Happy, Humble, Drunk. His early upbringing was to Work Hard, so he could buy enough booze to stay dizzy. Wow! Im a coffee drinker looking for a healthier alternative, and this looks delicious. That rich color and your description of the flavor have sold me. Thanks.
Thanks, billy. Great job on the vid. I am so pleased I found it.I can not wait to do it but I assume all of the roasting and boiling will surely deplete the majority of the amazing goodness in the root and I guess those can be utilized in other food processes. The flavor of the drink alone is worth this process, a nice breakfast drink without the caffeine .
Thanks. For future videos, you might tell us what quantity of dandelion coffee those roots produced. It looks like maybe a week's worth but I couldn't tell for sure. Great video. Then and also you might talk about how great dandelion is for the body. For one thing it purifies the blood from toxins.
Great video! I guess one thing you could mention is that the bitterness that is in the green part of the dandelion isn't found in the roots. I've found that growing my own dandelions from seed in a garden bed gives better results. The plants are in good, loose soil, and well watered. The roots are a bit bigger and easier to process.

Interesting. I haven't tried this but I am going to once the dandelions get a little bigger. Also, you can do the same thing with chickory (which is often used to enhance instant coffee, so it might be more common than using dandelion). The best part is that chickory grows about as rampantly as dandelions - you'll find them in pretty much ever ditch and along every wall and walkway that has sunlight and dirt. I imagine a blend would be really tasty.
Several years ago we did a survival/edible wild plants class and camping trip with our youth group. We just dug up dandelion roots, washed them well, spread them on cookie sheets and roasted them whole, then ground them...and took the grounds on our camping trip. It was a very delicious hot drink... Thanks for the great video and info...
sweet ive been buying dried dandelion root for a lil over a year now for my liver and i grind mine up into a powder and mix it with turmeric and burdock root for a detox tea every morning. thanks for the video.
Detoxing can be done several different ways, fasting is most beneficial but does not remove any metals that collect. Look into Zeolite drops. Their molecular shape of a hexagon, allures and traps most metals trapped in the vascular system; inside its shape and thus then can be carried out of the system through elimination.
I dug up most of my dandelions today, and roasted them. It really did smell like chocolate cake or brownies when it's roasting. I then blended the dried roots in my blender. I put 3 tablespoons of powder in my coffee maker filter, and brewed half a pot. My boyfriend and i each had a cup. I ended up adding more sugar and creamer than what i normally would use in coffee because of a slightly bitter taste. It tastes so good!!! It definitely tastes like chocolate caramel. Next time, I'm thinking of adding a dash of cinnamon. It's delicious!!!! A must try!!!!

I just picked a large amount of roots from a 4ft x 2ft raised bed. It's enough to make dandelion root coffee. I'll keep digging up roots until autumn from my whole garden. It's best to dig the roots in early spring, when the goodness stored in the root hasn't been used to grow the leaves and flowers.
Thanks. This coffee tastes great. You can try too with chicory(cichorium intybus) roots. It tastes great too. You can use the flowers as tea and the leaves in salads, they are a bit bitter tho .
The larger the leaves the stringer the flavor. A dressing of vinegar, bacon grease, sugar and crumbled boiled eggs is really good. Add bit of salt and sugar. Pour hot and wilt leaves

My grandmother told me about dandelion coffee when I was a kid, over fifty years ago, but I've never tried it. It seems like such a lot of hard work when you can just buy coffee from the shops. But, dandelions are everywhere and free, so I might give it a go.
WTH? So, I missed this growing up in MD! All I remember was picking them and they stunk. And, I always would get stung because the damn bees 🐝 loved them, while we would always run around barefooted! First time watching this ever. Mr. Poe you did a really good job explaining the process. I actually have quite a few plants out back. Instead of doing dandelion coffee is it pretty much the same process to make tea? I would expect so but perhaps the grounding process much finer. I know you can buy those tea bags on Amazon. It would be interesting info if you shared your knowledge on preparing different plants and roots for tea/coffee. Much healthier than what we consume today. It might have taken more time and effort to prepare but worth its weight in gold. Many blessings to you!
Thank you. Can't wait to try this. Dandelions are so healthy for us
Oh my goodness!! This was awesome, my friend!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I am all about healing. I share my healing journey here on youtube! This was great info!! Hugs
thank you! i love dandelions and have lots of them in my yard, i would never try to get rid of them. i can't wait to try this!
Now I GOTTA try it! Thank you sir for the walk thru
Billy, I tried this once and didn't like it. I'll try it again your way. Thanks for showing us.
For such a long time now that, I have been looking for a good substitute for my coffe habbit. I'm goin to try this nutty/chocolate flavor Dandelion Tea. Great video and thanks!
Y'uns got The Band happening in the back. Greetings from the North, friend. I like your coffee.
Also with the rising cost of coffee, this is going to ease my pocket book a bit so thanks again.
Great video Billy, thank you so much. You explained well and so easy to follow.
God bless and be well....
A doable project...thoroughly explained. Thanks!
Wow..thanks for sharing. I didnt know that Dandelion can be eaten, I have plenty in my backyard.
Hmmm... if you grew they hydroponically the roots would be big and very clean.
Shut up this is. Natural stuff duh. It's natural not a crop! Dude grow a crop. Fertilizre hormone one. Lol
It might taste very bland hydroponically
....aaand no nutrition from soil in it.....
@snailfiend Wah! I'm a snowflake and I get butt hurt on someone else's behalf! WAH!
hey .. thats great idea😎
Holy crap! I have a gazillion one these in my yard. Thanks for the info!
Awesome video! I'm definitely going to try this coffee! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thank you for the video...…..I shall definitely try this coffee......we in UK have ALOT of dandelions too....best wishes from UK...
I tried this and i couldnt believe it smelled and tasted like regular coffee !
Great video, reality enjoyed it.
I really appreciate you making this awesome video! The being straight forward and candid was lovely.
P.S: Not only is it delicious but great for you, check out the benefits yourself, much love.
My grandmother told me about dandelion coffee when I was a kid, over fifty years ago, but I've never tried it. It seems like such a lot of hard work when you can just buy coffee from the shops. But, dandelions are everywhere and free, so I might give it a go.
Yeah, it's a fair bit of work, but probably a few hrs will make enough to last for a month or more
I just buy dandelion root and add that to my regular coffee grounds. Gives it a very earthy flavor. Good video.
Cool video. Didn't even know dandelion existed as a coffee.
Where do you buy your dandelion root?
Excellent and complete 👌👍
Thanks for this.😊
WTH? So, I missed this growing up in MD! All I remember was picking them and they stunk. And, I always would get stung because the damn bees 🐝 loved them, while we would always run around barefooted!
I’m now in Az. I don’t see any around here.
I look it up, and it’s also great for cancer!
Thank you for sharing ❤️
I'm doing it tomorrow! It sounds DELICIOUS! Thanks.
*BEFORE YOU TRY: *
Pay very close attention to the oven while roasting them. I had them in at 375 for 10 mins and I just about burnt down the house. Turned out great on the second batch at 300. Thanks for the recipe!
Thanks brother, I tried my first cup a few weeks ago. Wasn't strong enough, you solved my guessing game.
Thank you Sir. I like this drink. It's likely good for us as well.
Also worth noting is you want to make sure that the area hasn't been sprayed or treated with any insecticides or herbicides and that you know that the soil is healthy and free of any pollution .
I pick the dandelions when they get huge and flower and feed them to my chickens for a treat.
Wow! hey man thanks! nice shot man! i never knew that you could make coffee from dandelion root! i'm definitely gonna try it!!! Well come to think of it, I actually DID KNOW this!!! From a past life! As a Dakota man! in the 18th century!!
You had me from the title but You had me for life with “ up on cripple creek”
Love this video! Love the American accent ♡ Great video
Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to do this. Amazing. Wish I knew this a longtime ago. I heard some people wait until the end of the season, is there a better time to pick dandelion root? Also, should I place a part of the root back in the ground for the next season?
My grandmother in Japan used to make this for me in the 70s. Don't see the type of dandelions here in Hawaii unfortunately. Would love to try it again.
Do you have a video for that?
Awesome Billy, thanks! I've tried dandelion smoothies, so next, I'll have to try the coffee!
Wash in bucket thoroughly
Oven dry at 275 °F for 2.5 hours
Oven cook 375 °F for 30 minutes
When you're almost done, it'll make the house smell like chocolate.
Your "coffee grounds" are finished.
I tried it and it is fairly tasty
I'm roasting it now and it really does smell like I'm baking a chocolate cake. Can't wait to get this in hot water.
jeanne griffin how was it?
@@dylanhacker7825 It's everything you said it would be. I just drank the last cup of my first batch and I've already begun to dig again. Thanks for the video!
That's good to bake it too ☺ any bug eggs won't make it through the drying process 💝
Ewww bug eggs😣😣😣
@@rosalbahamer994 bug eggs are in all food.
@@TarryLordTarry Except my can of Tuna.
Valueless Dollar lol
Thank you for this awesome video! Because of you, I'm excited about trying my hand at dandelion coffee! Rock on, dude... you made my experiences better!
I just watched your video. Thank you for it! It is the most complete one I’ve seen on the whole process. Does it matter what time of year you dig the roots?
Excellent - Nicely shown, told, done and put together ... A Work Well Done 🤙🏼
thanks for sharing this awesome video !!
