  • This is the deepest I have ever ventured solo into an engine repair....installing new Oil Pan Seals and new Oil Cooler / Seals before heading out on a road trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
UPDATE: ABQ road trip was a raving success and after 4 weeks on the road, the XC70 is still showing no signs of any oil seeps/leaks.

Good job. I dropped the pan on my V70 last year and it was bags of fun. All on my channel too. Take care and good luck with your old Volvo.

Great Video! I'm about to do the PCV job on my 2003 XC70 and I know I will have to drop the pan after too :(.

Oh yeah, did you torque the pan bolts to a specific spec or just did you just tighten them?

Yes - I set to the torque spec from Haynes Manual. I think I mentioned 13 ft-lb in video but not remembering specifics.

How many miles does yours have? Im at 230k , and the top portion was clogged. I know i need to drop the pan but might just poke at the port with wire 😅

@@tierodend Just hit 186k miles last week. It was pretty clogged up and the PCV / Oil Trap was in bad shape last NOV/DEC when I replaced the entire system. So far so good after replacing the oil cooler, oil cooler seals, as well as the oil pan seals from this video. Crossing my fingers all is well - it's been driving great / smoother.

@@tierodend I'm at 205K miles. The top port wasn't that bad. the bottom port was really clogged. Spent about an hour cleaning it, poking at it, and inserting a bendable tube I had laying around in my basement. I managed to get it in about 11" inches and blew some air in that bottom port and I can hear the oil bubbling. I might still drop the pan for peace of mind. Next up is replacing the crankcase breather pipe assembly. Worried about those damn banjo bolts :)
