man i didnt realize how long it's been since the stuff with sawtooth came out. i stumbled across this video on my recommended and was hit with the nostalgia of sawtooths videos. dang. glad there's an archive of sorts - i don't want to directly support them, but their videos still bring me a ton of nostalgia.
The description give the basis of the controversy, but here are more details for those who want it. The basic story of what happened goes as follows (yes, you'll have to read a bit but this is a condensed version of the mountains of text they gave): A 15-year-old fan (a name I've seen is Ash) was a big fan of Sawtooth and made art and videos for him. Over the next year or so, they would become much closer, talking more openly about things like mental health, family situations, et cetera. They were essentially online bf and gf but didn't do too much apart from roleplay and virtual hugs and kisses. Typical teenager stuff. Then her mother comes in, and she is quite abusive to Ash and threatens Sawtooth to stop talking to her. This is when both parties realised how serious this relationship could be. They didn't want to give up being friends but were willing to put themselves at distance. They would go weeks or even months without talking because of her mother's rules, but they did occasionally mail to each other (as they had done prior while sending fanart to each other). During these separations, she became even more obsessive than she was to the point that she started ignoring her studies and failing in school. On the few times they did reconvene, Sawtooth warned her to not ignore school but she ignored his warnings. By about 2019, they were barely in any contact. Her mother placed a final strict separation between them, though Ash would still text Sawtooth, even though he refused to text back because of her mother's boundaries. A point that was brought up earlier was that when she turns 18, she can make her own decisions and wouldn't have to listen to her mother anymore. When she did turn 18, Sawtooth would start returning her texts and they would officially become a couple. At this point, they began exploring a mild sexual relationship (no one was forced or pressured to do anything), but this wouldn't last too long. The relationship was immediately toxic and ended barely 6 months (I believe) after it started. Sawtooth was the one to break it off. They apparently had a momentary FWB deal but there really is no detail as to how all of that went but they were both adults at this time so it generally isn't our business but it was clear their relationship had grown sour. Then by 2022, Ash told Sawtooth that she was gonna expose him for their relationship and Sawtooth knew that if she did, he would never be trusted again because he knows how the internet is gonna take stuff like this. She got him to beg that she not come forward because it would mean the end of his channel. He would eventually accept this and stopped making videos for a while. By February, both made posts around the same time detailing their sides and Sawtooth privated his channel. She blames him for being 19 and fraternising with a 15 year-old at the time and for being the reason she did bad in school and can't go to college. I'm not even framing it, that is literally what her trauma was; that she did bad and school and blames it on him. It's obvious to me at least that this was a masterclass of a nothing burger that honestly has nothing to do with us so there was no reason they should have actively destroyed his career, but we all know how the internet is. No one can make a mistake without being caught and cancelled for it, no matter how many years have passed or how small the mistake was.
Yeah, I can imagine it was pretty close to impossible to get to the castle without being seen by ponyville residents or the counterparts of the mane 5. Sure Pinkie acted oblivious which is odd since it was obvious in Rainbow Rocks that Twilight filled them in on everything but Pinkie's brain is a mystery in itself. I didn't think about the problem of dragging so many people there at first I just thought it was odd. Although I can imagine that Flash got some closure with pony Twilight while there but there better ways to get home although Sunset's not the type of girl to just sit around and wait during a crisis especially when magic is involved and when there is a magical solution she eventually finds it. Although I'm sure word has spread across town by now throughout their adventures especially after Juniper's growth spurt and face off with Starlight at the mall and whenever the girls use their powers in town and some of their powers aren't as subtle as others.
Yeah, Sunset didn't really think this through. I mean what if word did spread out like wildfire. Isn't she worried that word spread through the news or online, that she and her friends could get arrested by the government.
I think that either starlight made a spell and used fragments of the memory that one of the Mane 7 kept or twilight made it to were only creatures that came from equestria or only magical beings could go through the portal.

Well, I think the damage would be if they actually met their counterparts/physically touched them. The only interaction that has happened between two same individuals is Sci Twi and pony Twi, so I guess that wouldn't be enough to destroy the balance but all of the mane 6 meeting would.
I mean to be fair, the mane 6 are dragging sunset's braincells like everyone elses with their friendship power anyway. no joke. sunset is the best written character, the most mature acting and she has so much potential...BEFORE she was redeemed like any villaiin and became besties. Her scenes in rainbow rocks and friendship games when she is ALONE or in the shorts, she has a super good rational thinking, remember she was the twilight 1.0. But each time she's with the group she simply doesn'T fit in. I remember the mini-movie with her and pinkie pie (backstage pass was it ?) . pinkie behaves ilke a 4 year old toddler with 0 braincells while sunset drives already a car and has a mind of a young adult. This here just adds to the writing. Same with sci-twi. She was so good written when she was really smart and acting solo, she got with the friends group and now she behaves like a braindead , hypersimp (alone in the named episode here). Having them all 3 at the table (sci-twi, twilight and sunset) and all 3 act like they are the worst written characters (and remember, twilight is to rule equestria which is the biggest flaw in the show) . In the deleted "what more is out there" duet with sunset she has similar fate ilke the dazzlings. they are not meant for the human world and have a lingering urge to go back to the magic world they belong to. they could have just focused on this and having sunset in the end realize that she goes back to equestria but FOR THIS is in contact witih sci twi if emergencies happen. She could have been a good contribution to twilight and her castle with her smart thinking. yet they made her stupid with the portal thing here treating as if it's the most normal thing to go through and worst of all, even in equestria it it's been treated so normal xD Writing world hopping is fine and fun. and it's a show for tiny kids. and EG is mainly to ssell their merch----but still it always bothers me how good sunset could have been but was treated like that . similar to sci-twi and despite the show and its message behind, I grew up with it and I never questioned it. but tbh I think actually the mane 6 are a bad influence and often toxic in their behavior excusing it with friendship , pushing their agenda to all others (I mean in the end they open this school to all creatures outside of ponyville which was already showing just that) and since EG are just their copy paste counterparts ... tbh this episode could have even become a next good written EG movie with one of the EG cast (that went through the portal as well) finding the liking to equestria and jumping as you said back because they now know how it works, and then wanting to replace the existing equestria counterpart and even switch place with the equestria one in the end. (I mean we got a scene where pinkie swaps with her counterpart if I remember right so this IS a thing there). This is a bit off topic to the video but what if sombra wasn’t the villain but his magic was. Hear me out, we see his magic animation coming from more then just him. Twilight uses it to change zecora’s potion, celestia uses it, its even shown when sunset shimmer puts on the crown in the human world which makes her turn into the demon thing. I could say y not but, my opinion on this is that seven magical girls showed up and rescued everyone aboard a sinking ship. Even if people were going to expose them that, wouldn't stop them from helping the others return to the mainland. Besides if G5 is canon than, the events of this film could’ve led twilight to develop types sealing magic to prevent the dimensions from interacting again hence y there are no references to EQG in G5.
She _was_ Celestia's pupil. Plus, while in movie magic they made her more rusty, she did steal Twilight's crown. Who's to say she couldn't manage an illusion?

Yeah they missed a huge opportunity with this, they could have brought in the government in a special episode or a movie where they shut down the school and began to study the portal.
With the plot twist that Principal Celestia personally knew her counterpart and is the reason she is okay with strangers like pony twilight participate in her school's event or why sunset is allowed to attend her school despite being a literal illegal alien. Princess celestia might have told principal Celestia to take care of sunset in her stead.

This is a bit off topic to the video but what if sombra wasn’t the villain but his magic was. Hear me out, we see his magic animation coming from more then just him. Twilight uses it to change zecora’s potion, celestia uses it, its even shown when sunset shimmer puts on the crown in the human world which makes her turn into the demon thing. This could be a big discovery
Well there's also the possibility that twilight doesn't keep the portal open all the time since she writes to Summer sometimes and the portal needs the book to stay open.

The description give the basis of the controversy, but here are more details for those who want it.
The basic story of what happened goes as follows (yes, you'll have to read a bit but this is a condensed version of the mountains of text they gave):
A 15-year-old fan (a name I've seen is Ash) was a big fan of Sawtooth and made art and videos for him. He eventually saw them and thanked her for the art. They became friends, talking about MLP theories. He has done this with many fans and even featured some in collabs on his episodes. Eventually she confesses that she has a crush on Sawtooth (whom had just turned 19), making him feel awkward about their relationship and initially denying her feelings back. Some weeks later, the conversation came back again he came back with a "maybe if you were older" type comment which gave her hope in that they could be a couple when she was older but for now would just be friends.
Over the next year or so, they would become much closer, talking more openly about things like mental health, family situations, et cetera. They were essentially online bf and gf but didn't do too much apart from roleplay and virtual hugs and kisses. Typical teenager stuff. Then her mother comes in, and she is quite abusive to Ash and threatens Sawtooth to stop talking to her. This is when both parties realised how serious this relationship could be. They didn't want to give up being friends but were willing to put themselves at distance. They would go weeks or even months without talking because of her mother's rules, but they did occasionally mail to each other (as they had done prior while sending fanart to each other). During these separations, she became even more obsessive than she was to the point that she started ignoring her studies and failing in school. On the few times they did reconvene, Sawtooth warned her to not ignore school but she ignored his warnings.
By about 2019, they were barely in any contact. Her mother placed a final strict separation between them, though Ash would still text Sawtooth, even though he refused to text back because of her mother's boundaries. A point that was brought up earlier was that when she turns 18, she can make her own decisions and wouldn't have to listen to her mother anymore. When she did turn 18, Sawtooth would start returning her texts and they would officially become a couple. At this point, they began exploring a mild sexual relationship (no one was forced or pressured to do anything), but this wouldn't last too long. The relationship was immediately toxic and ended barely 6 months (I believe) after it started. Sawtooth was the one to break it off.
They apparently had a momentary FWB deal but there really is no detail as to how all of that went but they were both adults at this time so it generally isn't our business but it was clear their relationship had grown sour. Then by 2022, Ash told Sawtooth that she was gonna expose him for their relationship and Sawtooth knew that if she did, he would never be trusted again because he knows how the internet is gonna take stuff like this. She got him to beg that she not come forward because it would mean the end of his channel. He would eventually accept this and stopped making videos for a while. By February, both made posts around the same time detailing their sides and Sawtooth privated his channel. She blames him for being 19 and fraternising with a 15 year-old at the time and for being the reason she did bad in school and can't go to college.
I'm not even framing it, that is literally what her trauma was; that she did bad and school and blames it on him. It's obvious to me at least that this was a masterclass of a nothing burger that honestly has nothing to do with us so there was no reason they should have actively destroyed his career, but we all know how the internet is. No one can make a mistake without being caught and cancelled for it, no matter how many years have passed or how small the mistake was.
Balance must be maintained in both worlds. That's why we'll never see the Mane 6 and the Mane 7 meet each other.

I could say y not but, my opinion on this is that seven magical girls showed up and rescued everyone aboard a sinking ship. Even if people were going to expose them that, wouldn't stop them from helping the others return to the mainland. Besides if G5 is canon than, the events of this film could’ve led twilight to develop types sealing magic to prevent the dimensions from interacting again hence y there are no references to EQG in G5.
She _was_ Celestia's pupil. Plus, while in movie magic they made her more rusty, she did steal Twilight's crown. Who's to say she couldn't manage an illusion?
