I was born in Cheshire. But my mum was from Rochdale and for some reason missed it, so back we came lol. Brought up just outside in Whitworth. Rochdale is an absolute ghost town now. Bookies, charity shops, endless takeaways.
I live in Italy, my mum is from here, good memories, I was in Rochdale 30 years ago the last time but something has remained similar, Thank you for sharing.
Im from The Dale and it's a lovely town, yes it has it's problems like many other English towns but all in all it's a great place to live it's diverse and full of culture. The media on the other hand always try to paint a grim picture of the town claiming that it's full of Junkies Dealers and Thugs and they also like to bring up a well documented case involving certain members of our Asian community but in reality the majority of people in Rochdale are hardworking law abiding citizens very friendly and always happy to help and also if you dig deep enough you will find we have produced some of the finest Actors and Musicians in the Country along with some ground-breaking artists, for such a small town I think that something us from the Dale can all be proud of, Peace and Love ❤
Couldn't agree more! Also the contribution during the Industrial Revolution of Rochdale and other towns near the M62 should be celebrated more in my opinion.
@L H By far the nastiest? Now we both know that's not true but obviously you have some deep rooted reason why you hate this town so much but hopefully you'll move out and find a place you can call home, good luck ❤
I bought a book recently on eBay on Rochdale called Memory Lane. The book gave a great impression of what Rochdale used to be like. The book showed it to be a great place in the 1950s, but these days it’s all bad news. I blame the state of the town on the Labour run council. They get rid of the old bus station and the Black Box office block which they declared an eyesore only to replace the them with a bigger eyesore across the road. I actually liked the 1970s brutalist look about the old bus station and offices. I know they were looking run down but it would have looked smart and futuristic when new. Of course buildings like this are always controversial when first built as usualy something of historical value has to make way for it. I liked the idea of a bus station multi story car park being right Mecca to a town centre. I was lucky enough to take loads of photographs of the inside of the bus station shortly before it was demolished. The new council offices look like they only have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years.
Guys, who wrote that this town became ugly and unsightly! Look around the world what is happening. Your town has still good vibes of British character. Of course, I am writing this through my foreigner's lense. But you are still in a better place and better world.
I left there 75 years ago. As a kid I watched local cricket, The Hornets, who had just started up again after the war, and a very disappointing football club. Thanks for the views of the Town Hall!
I grew up here and escaped when i was 16. I'm 65 now. Still got 2 sisters and my Father who live in Rochdale so I still go back there. Looks a lot better than it used to.
I left in 1989 and have a whole other Rochdale mapped out in my head. Yorkshire St isn't looking very good now. Interesting they have uncovered the river. A few beautiful old buildings have gone also along the walk, which is a shame. Town centre seems a bit forlorn to me now.
Great video mate, but honestly it broke my heart to see what a dirty unsightly place Town has become, I along with my friends spent our formative years in what was a bustling town centre that had an abundance of Heart, Soul and Character, some may call it progress I call it heart breaking.
My mother was born there in 1949. Do you know what hospital would have been open at that time? She lost her original birth certificate in a move and is sad about that. Any information would be really helpful. I am planning to bring her back for the first time in Summer 2022. Many thanks!
can you explain to me how to film your videos and get it so smooth without any shaking? Is your camera looked on your the straps of a backpack perhaps?
Firstly, thanks! To keep it stable I use a gimbal. Plus the camera I use (Sony FDR-AX700) has an additional built-in stabilisation mechanism which might help a bit. That's all there is to it really.
@@4KExplorer Nice I at first thought you had a small camera discreetly attached to your bag or something like that... Do you get any weird looks from people with your gimble and camera out?
Well for context I filmed this back in March when the lockdown was still in effect. I haven't been back since, but I'm guessing it's a little busier now.
A tale of two halves, the main street and drake street have seen better days, didn't help it was still in lockdown. They do now have a new leisure development . The town hall square is quite eye catching with its town hall, post office building and many other Victorian buildings that with the river running through it in summer is a rival to most places around greater Manchester. Go out of the centre and then you hit the buffers.
Have you been to Beirut? Beirut is actually a beautiful cosmopolitan city, full of culture, with a vibrant attitude to life. Rochdale is nothing like Beirut.
Great place to have been born in and I owe the place a lot....started career there. But now , well it's an absolute dump. As the local indigenous folk have moved out the Riff Raff have moved in, and so the cycle of deprivation continues and the place is now known for all the wrong reasons. No longer safe to walk those streets that now smell fowl of curry. They have ruined the place.

"diverse and full of culture" thats the problem! rochdale is or was a white Christian English working class town!!
Love Rochdale
As a child we use to play around the area where the steps from the church are going down, fond memories.
I lived in Rochdale in the 1950/60 it was a great town then, I was thinking about going back for a look, don't think I will bother now.
Thank you for sharing this with us! Really love the mood created in this. Keep up the great work!

I left Yorkshire 70 year ago with my parents 70 years ago and still miss it. . Ditto for Manchester.
the town where I grew up... nice to see it again :)
Foreigners are saying this is a great town, but to English people this is considered one of the worst towns in the country.
@@Victor-vf1fi Yeah pretty rough. In recent years though they’ve tried to make the town centre look better
@@ps5user155 sadly it hasn’t work looking at this video, such a shame it was a beautiful old mill town that only needed a clean!
It's kind of rough, I cant believe even Marks and Spencer closed down. All I see is betting shops, pawn brokers and cheap shops. Sad
@@Victor-vf1fi Yep it is. Was better decades ago. Now it’s rundown with junk shops and no easy access to town centre. So people go Bury or Manchester.
one of the worst? no it isnt
3:06 typical Rochdale 🤣🤣🤣
I was brought up in Rochdale. It was a dump 50 years ago. It is so much worse now

Seeing something through the eyes of "well it's better than the real hell holes of the world" is not a good way to live.
I had spent my 4 years in this town missing those days

Definitely doesn't look better😂
Could you pop over to Accrington, Lancashire? I want to get a feel for it's local areas before moving there!
I can't make any promises as to when, but I intend to at some point.
@@4KExplorer it's more the areas of Accrington I would like to see if that helps?
@@seantuaima If by areas you mean outskirts/suburbs, I'm probably the wrong person to ask - I'm more of a town centres guy.
5:24 you can hear the peregrine falcons that nest on the town hall
