Too many people keep saying that these Theories are not Theories or aren't good. If this is how you feel, then I strongly suggest you start your own channel and start doing worth while Theories.
If that's how they feel, then why subject themselves to it? Didnt know trolls were becoming masochistic. Perhaps there are some more non-youtube-friendly videos they'd be interested in instead. Lol
Even if some doesn't agree to a theory, it shouldn't matter because even if it's true or not, it's a subjective theory, and it's main purpose is to be entertaining, not true, those who doesn't like good quality content with a good entertainment value, you can choose to not watch these theories, but those of us who do like them and find them entertaining will still keep watching.
While some of your theories don't seem to present an actual, precise, answer, most of them are interesting to listen to. And most of them provide a sort-of answer, if not a proper one. I'd say that they're theories either way, and that you hardly can expect everyone to think a thing is good, considering how we've all got different opinions about what is good. If you don't like something, don't watch it!
why can't it be the type's never changed in the first place? We used to believe iron was the strongest metal, then we further undertood science to develop steel. Maybe the Profs did further study on many pokemon, that they could only think to classify as normal, to discover that they are acyually fairy type
+Zach French i agree 100% with this. While i was playing X i Figured that my ralts was fairy type because science had discovered that these certain Pokemon shared something that could only be explained by them all being a certain type (hint Fairy)
That's a good argument, but Clefairy as a normal type was susceptible to the disadvantages of a normal type, right? Weak against fighting, etc? That's the one thing that throws off the theory that they were fairy all along. unless Fairy shares Normal's type disadvantages (I havent played since Black/White), in which case ignore me!
all of the old Pokémon that became fairy types were originally in the fairy egg group. so they were technically already fairies. on top of that, if you've ever played the games, you would know that the reason there is now a fairy type and why so many Pokémon changed to become that type was because they discovered that certain Pokémon had abilities that were unique to them but not their type. it was unique to a type they hadn't named yet. normal types are called so mainly because they don't already fit into a type. they aren't fiery or watery or a plant or anything like that, so they're just normal. Pokémon of a certain type have certain attributes based off that type. so once they started noticing that Pokémon were displaying attributes that would be shared if they had a certain type, they decided to actually call it a type and not just a coincidence. a ton of Pokémon were seen as being unaffected by dragon types, among other match-ups. since this isn't a trait common to any other type, it had to be a newly discovered type. odds are, they decided to name it fairy type because all of the Pokémon with these attributes were of the fairy egg type, so it was a fitting name. those that retained attributes of other types (such as Marill staying weak to grass and electric types) became dual types. those that had previously never shown characteristics of another type and were therefore called normal types were changed to fairy types. its not that anything changed how these Pokémon were, its just that Pokémon scientists discovered new stuff about them, changing the way they were classified. the reason why these attributes weren't shown in previous generations was because the game creators probably didn't think that far ahead or they didn't want to ruin the surprise for when they added it in. aside from that, the best explanation as to why we couldn't see this is because its a game.
the anime has different things true about it. odds are, the explanation would be the same given in the games, but I tend to stick to one version of the Pokémon universe for explaining things. I don't take things from the anime and the games and combine them, because there's been proof of one thing being true in the anime and another being true in the games. I do remember there being things in the games explaining it a little, but I've been unable to keep up with the anime, so I don't know how fairy type was introduced in it
vikingdrizzit well, nothing's perfect when you make changes to something. similar happened when they added Steel and Dark types with gen 2. having been a much smaller franchise that hadn't been going on as long at the time, those changes didn't seem as big, but even so.
PokéCenter well, it helped balance out weaknesses a little better. Dragon-types have more weaknesses than just Dragon and Ice, Ghosts have more than just Ghost and Dark, and Fighting have more than just Flying and Psychic. at the same time, Steel has become more useful, as has Poison, with Steel previously only being good against Ice and Rock, and Poison was only good against Grass. the Fairy type itself isn't extremely powerful, so without type compatibility they're as useful as most other types.
I agree with that theory, and that concept is why I believe if there's another new type in the future it would be sound-related....there are so many abilities related to sound and voice it's almost hinted already.
My theory: they were always fairies, but they were not fully comprehended as being fairies and their powers were still unkown. Now it all has been revealed.
In real life there were some cases of wrong classification. Species were seen as diffrent- or the same from eachother. This might have happend here. Further research showed that the some pokemon didnt really came up to the type. They turned out to have weaknesses people couldnt explain with their current type. So they had to make a new theory and creating the fairy type. This does make sence because somewhere along the line people had to put pokemon in boxes, make a system.
giratina is the devil Pokemon here are some facts:has 6 rings on neck ,6 legs ,and 6 wings ,666 was banished to a different realm, obviously hell in bible transformes in a snake and a baskilisk looking beast, satan does that in the bible many times
The logic behind the fairy types that is official is that they already were fairy types, it's just that the type wasn't discovered during the first five gens, and so the pokedex said nothing about it..
my answer to this theory is that the kalos region had recently discovered the new fairy type classification and did not spread this information in till it was confirmed
There are fairy types because Game Freak had gone four generations without adding new types, mixing up the match-ups a bit and making something new. As for Pokémon which are suddenly fairy types, they had to retcon them, otherwise Fairy would be an incredibly underrepresented type (and it still is). Plus it balances the Dragon type a little more because they're weak to Fairy for some reason.
balance out dragon? they are weak to their own class type & ice. there are tons of non-dragon types that can learn dragon type moves such as Charizard who isn't weak against dragon for a good example. Dragons are already well taken care of with ice and dragon style moves without adding the unneeded fairy class pokemon.
RockMr100 I agree, they are very op and I still believe that they added them for the female fans as the first pokemon game was mainly geared towards the male gamers(even if they wasn't trying to).
valor0dragoon Finally someone who agrees! I wish Fairy-type wasn't invented, the point of Dragon-types is getting OP when you earned it, now Fairy-types made that pointless now, oh well, at least with the combined power of every Dragon-type legendary Pokemon will bring an end to Fairy-types.
Pokemon Theory Idea: Why are there some moves exclusive to certain legendary pokemon? Example Latios' move "Luster Purge" and how would they go about learning it without other pokemon of the same type cannot?\
Perhaps, fairytyping was oh idk, a new classification discovered, and thus clufarie and other pokemon similarly had thier typing altered due to this new discovery
I just think that Faerie type was just an unknown type that was just recently realized.... there are times when scientists think they know about something and then later figure out that it was completely different than what they initially thought it was.. maybe upon further study of these particular pokemon.. they found out that they are not normal pokemon at all they are an entire separate type.. Sometimes certain features of things can be pretty hidden .. until out of nowhere they exhibit particular behaviors or in this case abilities that their previously listed category is not known for .. matter of fact none of the known types are known for.. to which in that case would have to mean it is a newly discovered type.. Might not be a NEW type to pokemon.. but to the humans studying pokemon it is new.. I hope that makes sense.. i dont explain things very well.. but thats what i think.. :F
You pose a good point, and this would be a valid theory, if not for one thing... ... In Pokemon X and Y, when you talk to someone on one of the beginning routes, they'll say that the Fairy Type was "recently discovered". Meaning that the knowledge of Fairy Types wasn't present until the time when X and Y takes place. And from that, you can gather that the people who discovered the Fairy Type did more research on Pokemon, and discovered that certain Pokemon were either Fairy Type as opposed to Normal Type, like they initially thought, or that they had the Fairy Type in them. So, Pokemon X and Y pretty much explains (canon-wise) why Pokemon who were thought to be Normal Type are now classified as Fairy Type (like Clefairy or Jigglypuff), or certain Pokemon had the Fairy Type in them (like Gardevoir): because upon discovering the Fairy Type, the scientists found that certain Pokemon possessed the Fairy Type gene. I hope I did a good job on explaining this. :)
+Doctor W That theory actually makes sense. The reason they have weaknesses and resistances is just for balancing purposes, otherwise the type changes/additions would be pointless.
*+Codrian Drasil* Or one could add onto *+DittoMaster6*'s theory that the pokemon have just recently and successfully acquired the Fairy Type, promoting research to what pros and cons these changes provide. Also, maybe Flabebe was a pokemon that was always Fairy Type but has just been discovered.
I think the Fairy types exist because of Darwinian evolution. If you look at a list of Pokemon that had their types changed to Fairy, you'll notice that a lot of Pokemon acquire more defensive capabilities against Pokemon that they previously had a difficult time against. For example: Gardevoir. Gardevoir couldn't do that much to defend itself against a Dark type Pokemon, unless it had a good Hidden Power. But it could've adapted to this weakness by acquiring the Fairy type, rendering Dark type Pokemon much less of a threat. Same for Granbull. Granbull didn't learn many things that could counter a fighting type, so it picked up the Fairy type to prevent Fighting types from being a threat anymore.
I think you can catch them in Gen VI solely because Sylveon is a special pokemon, & they're almost always Male. Also, I don't remember getting an Eevee as a gifted pokemon in D/Pe/Pl. They usually came from Bill. So, maybe in Gen VI, they all migrated after people bred the heck out of them in hopes for a shiny.
Maybe, but my theory is that they were caught there, maybe around the time of the Kalos wars, and ported to other regions to be traded. In the games that you CAN get them, you don't always get them from bill. Gen 1, you get them on the rooftop of a building in Celedon city that can only be entered from the back, in gen 2, you probably got it from bill, but he's not in the other games past that, and you most likely can get one in diamond, pearl, and platanum in a spot we don't yet know of.
Ayla Osuna I believe you can sometimes get them in gen 4 in the Pokemon Mansion's garden, on rare occasions. Same as some other Pokemon in there, such as Porygon. But yeah, I think Eevee came from Kalos too, then ported to other regions.
And/Or simply because they noticed that the Normal types in the Fairy Egg Group could have their own types, as they do not fit into the "normal" clique as they thought.
I have a theory of sorts. Due to the cataclysmic events from previous decades (Team Aqua/Magma distorting Weather in Hoenn, Team Galactic trying to rip Space and Time apart so a new world could be created), that it tampered with the environment via butterfly effect, resulting in micro-evolution of species (Pokémon gaining new egg moves and even egg moves that existed in previous gens but were added a gen or so later) and the sudden genetic mutation which gave birth to the Fairy-type. One cannot say it is truly a macro-evolution, due to the fact Clefairy loses it's sole weakness to fighting along with immunity to ghost-type attacks and trades it in for two new weaknesses, and immunity to Dragons. One could say rather than it being macro-evolution, it was the environmental changes which urged recessive genes to become active. Perhaps the recessive Fairy-gene was more common thousands of years ago, and perhaps it had more of an urge in a world where Dragons ruled the skies. Sure, Mt. Moon may not have any dragons now, but what's to say thousands of years ago, that there may not have been any there? What's to say that after a draconian-die off, that the genes didn't return to being dormant due to Kanto's very high population of poisonous wildlife, which then became increasingly dominant due to the void opened in the ecosystem by the decline of the dragons? What if the other species that gained or became pure fairies didn't have similar situation at one point, or were twisted into becoming partial fairies as a result of all of the environmental disasters? Just a hunch I have.
I have a theory on why fairy types are weak against poison and steel. I theorise that the "fairy" typing follows along with children and their innocence and sweetness at that age. The weakness to steel follows along with the idea of children learning about science and the world, destroying their purity. Poison follows the idea of illnesses and disease, resulting in great sadness from the child when they, or someone close to them, obtain one. But that's just my theory.
Just found this video and find it pretty funny that this theory looks to be fairly accurate going off Pokemon Sun and Moon which are coming out in a few months. We now know that in the Alola region there are new versions of classic pokemon which seem to have evolved (proper evolution instead of the transformations that pokemon passes off for evolution) into variant forms with a different typing because of the area itself. In particular, there are many Normal type pokemon which now bear the Dark type in a similar fashion to Normal types in the Kalos region of X and Y gaining the Fairy type.
I always assumed it was a thing of Science Marches on; that Clefairy and others were always Fairy Type, but Pokemon scientists didn't know that type existed so they classified Clefairy as a Normal Type because it's was the closest thing they had; but then they discovered the Fairy Type and realized Clefairy and Togepi and the others were actually Fairy Type and reclassified them appropriately
At at least one point in the game, you are told that there was a "Discovery of a new type: Fairy type" and "It turned the whole type system on its head". So maybe they were Fairy type all along, and it was recently discovered?
If Pokemon types work the same way animal classifications do, couldn't it be possible that Pokemon such as Clefable couldn't be classified as fairies at the time of their discovery and later researchers just found more Pokemon that had traits similar to Clefable's and had enough evidence to classify them as their own type.
It's quite common for scientists to be mistaken when labeling an animal and overtime studying a pokemon we find. As for why it can take on dragons it is a throw back to fairytail literature dragons dying by the hand of knights who exist in fairytale. Poison weakness, well a nod to peter pan as Tinkerbell "dies" ingesting poison. Also Marrill has a normal type prevolution.
what if they coudent identify the type of these pokemon life clefairy and etc so they put them in normal type so after research in future gen they discorved that these pokemons are fairy types so they changed their type compleately from normal to fairy
I was thinking that as well. and while that would work for a good majority of the pokemon (Snubbull, Togepi, Clefairy, etc.) it still wouldn't explain really how those that aren't classified as normal (such as Gardevoir, Mawile, and Marrill) became classified as Fairy... unless they were always Fairy as well and they gave them that typing when the new type was discovered. so I guess it works for all of them then in one way or another.
I would just like to express my thanks to ProtoMario. Your videos are very informative, and I like being able to learn more about the world of pokemon. Keep up the good work :)
I was hoping you would have covered why the fairy type was introduced from a gameplay balance perspective, not from a plot one. For example, the dark type was introduced because the psychic type was overpowered with few weaknesses.
I have known this since I just saw Dunsparce and Yanma in my Crystal pokémon game when it came out. Theory: Dunsparce was originally going to be a normal/bug type that evolves into Yanma. They have many similar features and it is a common theme among bug-type pokémon to have a larva stage than a winged stage. Just look at a picture of dunsparce and yanma side by side!
my theroy was always this: fairy types always had been around but they weren't discovered until later on. Also they may have been added by game makers to help bring down the power houses dragon types tend to be.
I have a thought. We will assume this type classification to be forward in time chronologically. People in this universe classified Clefairy as a normal type, as that is what it fit into the most at the time. After a greater understanding of the nature of said pokemon (fairy types) was established, they then classified these pokemon as fairy type,
Julian Gerstorff The game also says that Xerneas existed for about 3,000 years and apparently there is a Pixie Plate which belongs to Arceus, the original Pokemon who made the entire planet supposedly, right? Right. So since we just establish that Fairy is NOT a new type but has existed for ages, there is no reason why, back in Gen 1, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Mr. Mime, and whatever other Pokemon that are NOW Fairy were getting injured by Dragons or whatever else their resistances are. The theory makes NO sense. Sorry.
I think it's because the tech and stuff Pokemon scientists used got better or something, and they realized they were misclassifying a whole type of Pokemon. When they discovered this, they had to upgrade Pokeballs and the Pokemon Storage System to allow the systems to rematerialize the Pokemon correctly. Once they weren't missing a crucial variable, Pokemon started showing their Fairy typing in battle. The events in Pokemon X and Y come after this, but by that time it was old news.
Proto can you do a Pokemon Theory video on Why there is only 1 hero per game and why other people arn't trying to help with whatever problem is happening?
True... but when it comes to taking out the bosses of the enemies. Ex: Team Rocket, It s only you taking them out. And while you doing one thing like going after one part of them, others don't go for the other parts.
Maybe fairy type wasn't discovered for a while. The Normal type could have been a catch-all for them until further research led to a new pokemon classification. It would explain why they dropped their original normal typing entirely. Kind of like bugs being a catch-all name for small crawly thingies with an exoskeleton before separating insects from arachnids
honestly, you could just say that the other regions just didn't do enough research, so they were like "fuck it, this one's a normal type" and then kalos was like "wait, these pokemon are actually fairies, but some of them have other attributes, like water or psychic"
Proto Mario here's is 3 ideas for pokemon theories 1) Do pokemon age when they evolve and how do they die. 2) Why do some Pokemon mega evolve. 3) How does the pokemon typing system even work? Love those vids.
Here's a Pokemon Theory that's been bugging me for a while now, but: What the F*** is with Valerie's Eyes!? can you please Explain this to me? She's the Laverre City Gym Leader in Pokemon X and Y, and specializes in Fairy Types in case you don't know.
contacts, simple as that. she wanted to make herself as fairy-like as possible, so she wears that outfit and puts special contacts in her eyes so they look like that
I have a theory: Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon and Arceus is a god Pokemon that supposedly created the universe. Is Mew Arceus's daughter (or son) or closely related to him in some way? (I know both of their genders are unknown, but it just makes more sense that way)
Because they'd be too strong...? That's the only logical theory and they, the writers, would have to work harder to make them all below the level of Charizard because no-one can surpass him. Ever notice how none of Ash's pkmn after Charizard, NONE, have surpassed Charizard? Someone might say well Ash hasn't traveled with them as long as he did with Chaairzard so invalid. Well I can counter that by saying some of the pkmn Ash traveled with previously are weaker than his more recently caught pkmn so... yeah. But yeah, it's likely because of Charizard and so Ash doesn't "crush" any future leagues. His overall team right now is not bad, but I have to admit some of his pkmn without a purpose should evolve. For example, Squirtle can't evolve because of the Squirtle squad, Oshawott didn't evolve because he was used as comedic relief in the Unova saga and so their could be a rivalry between him and Piplup. Becoming a Dewott would have destroyed potential for both those aspects. IMO, Oshawott should become Dewott soon now that Unova is over or should evolve when Dawn's Piplup has been confirmed to evolve (with Ash knowing about it and not just us, the audience, so it makes sense). Totadile has no real purpose and should evolve, but what we have to realize is that the writers have this respect code for all of Ash's obtained pkmn. Example, Pignite not evolving into Emboar so it couldn't overshadow Infernape or look weaker to it & Charizard at the sametime. Those kind of things look like steps backwards to the series. Either way is a lose lose situation. Bianca, one of Ash's semi-rivals, was also probably why it didn't evolve since she had an Emboar present. The writers like to sometimes develop multiple reasons for something not happening the way it should or the ways fans want. Personality in each pokemon also plays a part. They know evolving causes changes and sometimes depending.. the changes can be drastic. But yeah if I was to decide who evolves, I would evolve Totadile 1st before Oshawott and any other starter excluding Fraokie. I considered Ash having received a Qualiva in Sinnoh so with them both being caught in the same region and being around the same power level I would evolve Totadile first, 'especially' since Totadile is less important than Oshawott. When evolving, it's not always about the more experience this pkmn has compared to another, so that needs to be kept in mind as well. Oh and let me make it clear that I would have already planed to have Ash have a Greninja before the XY series is over - Totadile would evolve sometime during post 8th (Kalos) badge similar to Qualiva. Keep in mind i'm not saying I would have Ash obtain Greninja post 8th badge or post-league, but before the XY series is over. Since I don't know if they'll do a special post-league thing like the N arc in Black/White/Best Wishes and the Battle Frontier arc in Advanced Generations I can't say when I would plan to evolve Frogadier. I know Bulbasaur also has his own purpose, but I don't see why Ivysaur can't fulfill the samething? Ivysaur is practically a just a boost from Bulba rather than a full drastic evolution.
I think that Fairies were always there. Its discovery this generation reflects the real world, as our understanding of things changes over time, especially when it comes to animals.
dragon's arent overpowered.... they are weak to themselves and ice, and now fairy, and are completely ineffective to it. and most of their dual typing neutralizes most of their resistences, and their only strength is to themselves..... If anything, fariy is the one overpowered type because steel is the only real weakness to be afraid of because the only useful offensive poison move is cross-poison..... dragons are completely underpowered and useless at this point.
Here's a theory: They changed it because the dragon type had to be nerved. I mean, come on guys. When blizzard nerves rogues in WoW, nobody asks why rogues in the warcraft universe suddenly became less powerful. It's a game. Balancing is hard. Decisions have to be made. Sometimes those decisions don't meet up with established canon. That's just how it works.
My best guess is because since most dark types use unfair tactics to win battles they decide to create a type that embodied a hero which is why I feel the fairy type was created and introduced in gen 6,but that is just my guess or theory
The reason they call it fairy is because its a play on word for fairy tail. In fairy-tails the hero normally wins over evil or dragons, but is weakened by curse or poisons. Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are just some examples. So fairy types dose make since.
well not recently classifed as a type of there own but recently discovered as being a type, like back when Steel and Dark Type were introduced, same thing going on there.
PKMTVince Nunez good idea. but Fairy Pokemon are weak to Steel and Poison, and Curse doesn't really give off a Steel type feeling, more of a Psychic or Ghost type feeling. and it doesn't really explain why they can easily beat Fighting type either. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fairy
Mathew P Agreed. I like the addition of fairy type to the metagame, but I think the dragon immunity is really unnecessary. I hope that is changed in later installments.
In Kalos, they said they just discovered Fairy Types. Maybe Normal was a type that was closest to Clefairy. But when they discovered Fairy they thought it was the ty[e for it due to its actions and attacks.
Ehh, should I subscribe? Hmm... Kinda like Game Theory.... Looks llike it too... Then again, the speaking sounds unnatural... Entertaining though.... Yet the comments are a PR nightmare.... Ehh... I'll... I'll pass. Just doesn't seem like too much effort is put into these. Game Theory seems like the better choice. Initiating Flame Shield.
This is the entire theory: The ultimate weapon is based on the nuclear missile of North Korea. (maybe) Before the ultimate weapon was launched, there was only one fairy pokemon, Xerneas. After the ultimate weapon was launched, some pokemon in the Kalos war were infected. Those infected pokemon turned into fairy types from the power of Xerneas, some got serious infections and loses a type, (such as clefairy and Snubull) some were directly hit by the weapon and became imortal. (AZ and Floette) The eternal flower Floette was originally a regular one, the ultimate weapon changed it a lot, such as changing its flower, changing its base stats and has it learned a signature move called light of ruins. The ultimate weapon consist of very strong nuclear energy that made a lot of pokemon stronger, it's also what created Mega evolution. Some people believes that Lysandre also became immortal after being hit. Well, this is only my theory.
I think I have another possible explanation to this. Maybe it's something to do with they being aliens, the Pokemon Professors may have finally done something useful. Think about it, what if the Fairy types were aliens, but nobody knew it so they classified them as Normal types until Sycamore changed it with a research that showed that those Pokemon came from the Moon. This would also explain the sudden appearance of the Steel type, Elm found about them ! And about the mechanics, well, how were you supposed to tell a Pokemon to use a move you didn't know about ? And even if Fairy types are stronger against Dragons, if you don't go and say, hey, use a Fairy type move to beat that dragon, you don't see the weakness.
I'm writing a fan fic about a dragonite, azumarill, gardevoir, and togekiss (each originally from their respective regions) travelling to kalos. When they all arrive, the locals treat Nair (the dragonite) differently simply because of his traveling companions. Twist: Azzy (azumarill), Lia (gardevoir), and Tik (togekiss) never even knew a "fairy-type" existed, much less knowing that they were fairies as well.
...Or, "Fairy" became a new classification type within the Pokemon world, in the same way discovering a new species, genus, class, etc works in the real world. Then, because the Pokemon scientists(or whatever tf they are) thought pokemon like Clefairy fit the classification, its classification was changed from "normal" to "fairy". ...Which, makes a lot more sense lol. The pokemon themselves did not physically change, their 'scientific' classification did because of a new category being created.
I like this theory. Yeah it makes sense. In the Pokemon world new things are being discovered about Pokemon and it could be that someone in the Kalos region discovered fairy types so Pokemon were re-classifieds so such.
I personally like the fact dragons are uber. Most dragons are big and strong anyway. Explains why most dragon types are able to evolve twice. Hence why dragon types usually make some appearing as an elite 4 or champion's specialty. Already, there are 2 champs who mainly use dragon types, and Lance was so badass, he moved up from an elite four member to an interactive champion helping you along the way.
My thoughts are that a little bit before gen 6, biologists thought that too many Pokemon didn't fit greatly in their typing, and that most of said Pokemon had many similarities to each other, thus, the biologists decided to create a new typing where they could fit more accurately, and just changed the classifications of said Pokemon. I think this makes a little more sense than that the Pokemon changed themselves.
And if the moon is a key factor, then moonblast could confirm any connections to the moon and fairies! Fairies also have some connection to the moon in some mythologies
The reason is because XY/ORAS takes place in another universe so they always had Fairy types. Even if newly discovered (I mean theres ALREADY a gym for the type so clearly the discovery happned long ago and they're just acting like its recent or it only applied to Pokémon that are solely fairy types or they just now discovered why Pokémon like marill are immune to dragons )
I always thought the other regions were too polluted for fairies, since fairies are weak to steel and poison, this would mean that the fairies wouldnt be able to survive in the polluted, modern city landscapes of the other regions and hid from human detection. Kalos would be the cleaneset of the known regions, so fairies could only survive there. Im also thinking thats why certain pokemon can only exsist in certain regions, because Kanto is so polluted that only 151 typs of pokemon can live there, Jhoto is less polluted and supports more pokemon species, Hoenn even cleaner etc. So thats my theory
The answer would reside in the region itself, Kalos, since they weren't fairies in the other regions AND because they were weak to fighting type moves, which also automatically rules out the theory of them being fairy all along but it was never discovered. Outside the pokemon world we all know that they, the creators of pkmn, forced them to be fairy types, which makes perfect sense considering most of the fairys look like fairy type creatures, but inside the pkmn world, due to fairies not being seen or heard until Kalos would make it seem that there was a adaptation/evolutionary process that happened in Kalos due to some type of exposure to something residing in the Kalos region such as may'be those weird stones that's been around for hundreds of years in Kalos exclusively that's been confirmed to possess special and unique energy. However.. this explanation theory behind older pkmn turning into fairy types is contradictory, because from this point on they will be fairy pkmn forever throughout each future regions, therefore this theory is nothing more than a change in development from the creators.
I love your theories. It always makes me laugh to hear them, seeing as most decisions in the game were probably made out of convenience, and don't have some intricate story behind them. Still fun to speculate, though.:)
My take on the theory on the type retconning is that since normal type pokemon like clefairy and snubble are weak to fighting type pokemon, they might have evolved in a way that's similar to real life evolution to resist fighting types. The same could also be said for pokemon such as gardevoir, mawile, marill, and cottonee since the dark and fighting types are super effective against psychic and steel types and the dragon type resists water and grass type moves. But this is just my theory and it shouldn't be taken all that seriously.
Well... I don't know about that theory... Maybe the pokemons just changed type because, their type was unknown and unable to classify in the pokemon typing system?(Pokeuniverse talk). Or maybe the most obvious: the pokemon types were unpaired, incredibly lacking balance, and it was necessary to add one more type to give it the intended balance. Although, I suppose your theory could rely on the fact that there are surging a lot of pokemon with abilities that make any normal type attack they have become the type of the ability, as the only example that I know of... is Pixilate. So, yeah, I give you that.
the reason i thought why they would change clafairy's typing is because back in the older generations they didn't know much about it ( anime was talking about this) and now that they know more they came up with a new/better fitting type for this pokemon.
It's just because Dragons were to strong in 5th gen. So to rebalance it the had to give them a new weakness. Just like esper (psychic types) were op in first gen got fixed by introducing the drak typing. Has nothing to do with the story. And why shouldn't cleFAIRY be a fairy? It became full fairy because normal is just like the standart typing that pokemon that are in no specific catagorie used to have. So now there is a typing they match so they get changed.
I find the more likely theory is introduced in ORAS's Delta Episode: Generation VI takes place in an alternate timeline, where Fairy type and Mega Evolution exists, where the war in Kalos ended with the use of the Ultimate Weapon.
As much as I want there to be an elegant Wastonian explanation for this, I still have to say that I find the Doylist "It's a retcon for game balance; ignore the game studio behind the curtain" explanation more appealing. Maybe a hybrid explanation about "Normal" type being sort of an "N/A" type and people didn't know until recently about the Fairy type and initially miscategorised them. . . which somehow had a tangible effect on their strengths and weaknesses? Somehow? **shrugs** (I really like your channel, btw. Your videos are thought-provoking.)
It is said that Clefairy was a pokemon not often see by human, I beleive humans just didn't know Fairy Type existed until more recent research. You could see it as phylogenetic studies, they discovered more affinity between some pokemon (fairy) that they didnt notice before.
This is the most surprising theory I've heard from Proto Mario. I was thinking the fairy thing is just a game mechanic move by Game Freak, no big deal. But it makes sense that the Kalos region's Clefairies would have more affinity to the moon and hence be Fairy type. Nice going, man.
I think they added fairy type Pokemon to add a bit more balance to the games, like how dark type was introduced to offset psychic type which were a little Over powered. Canonically you could say the fairy types were a new discovery
BUT PROTO, what if the fairy type did always exist, but nobody did knew it, not even the fairy type pokemon, and since they didnt knew how to use their moves/powers they just adapted to normal type moves ;-;
As for clefairy, they changed it to all fairy type because it literally is the fairy pokemon, that's the description that every pokedex gives you when you catch it "fairy pokemon"
I see it as instead of them evolving these new typings that instead, previously unknown types are discovered by Pokemon professors who then go back to older Pokemon and re-classify them and what their typings should really be.
I believe that the original use of the weapon made certain pokemon of the kalos region only fairy types but afer the second use it sent a surge of energy through the world and made the rest of the world have fairy types. This would explain how the world did not have fairy types until this event occured.
My personal explanation for this is the same as with Mega Evolution, everything Gen 6 and on exist in a parallel world to the other games. A world where there is a fairy type, and Mega Evolution. If I remember correctly, the games covered this a bit (could be wrong).
I would say, that the thing here is that it is all based on knowledge and lack of it, in Kanto where Clefairy was first discovered people might not have known what type of pokemon it really was, so they just classified it as something is most closely back than resembled , a normal type, and later on in the future as regions shared their knowledge and information about pokemon, it was realized that Clefairy is actually a fairy type and not a normal type as scientists had thought and so the so called error was corrected
The reason Clefairy's type was changed to Fairy is pretty obvious to me. It's design and concept is based off a fairy. Heck, it even has "fairy" in its name. The type just didn't exist at the time so Gamefreak made it Normal type, something pretty versatile. As for other Pokemon adding the fairy type, it's kind of like dark type... something that isn't too definite and can be added on to other Pokemon so long as it makes at least a little sense.
(Before watching video) I have two theories 1. X and y take place in a different dimension from previous games hence why mega evolution now exists and why fairy type now exists Or 2. The ultimate weapon hidden in the earth is causing radiation to change certain Pokemon to react and become fairy types
I thought fairy types were created when floette, realizing she was immune to the ultimate weapon, turned the laser into mini lasers and purified some so that they give a special radiation and not harm but couldn't purify them all in time. Then celebi and dialga were summoned to transport the people and accidently transported some purified mini lasers making present day fairy types.
Not sure what everyone else has said but in X and Y the Dexio and the other one tell us that fairies are new to Kalos as well. This means we likely won't get an answer until either the next game comes out or the anime tells us (they haven't even mentioned the typing even through they are traveling with a Dedene)
Too many people keep saying that these Theories are not Theories or aren't good.
If this is how you feel, then I strongly suggest you start your own channel and start doing worth while Theories.
***** I agre #hatersgonnahate
If you don't like something, don't watch it!
ant lant OK lame guy
The Fairy Type was added to balance out the dragon, dark, and fighting type while adding an element to welcome girls more into the Pokémon franchise.
There have always been fairy types :P Look at the fairy egg types, look at the species! They just didn't know cuz they had TERRIBLE researchers lol
Before X and Y I could hit the darn things with dragon moves, after X and Y I can't. This is not a problem with researchers.
yingosensei
Probably cause those Pokemon used a trick to make you think you actually harmed them. Fairies are evil like that.
why can't it be the type's never changed in the first place?
+RotaryPunch weaknesses are steal and poison
Luke Rose
Thanks! In that case I stand by my argument.
we already know fairys were brought in to balance out the dragon types.
all of the old Pokémon that became fairy types were originally in the fairy egg group. so they were technically already fairies. on top of that, if you've ever played the games, you would know that the reason there is now a fairy type and why so many Pokémon changed to become that type was because they discovered that certain Pokémon had abilities that were unique to them but not their type. it was unique to a type they hadn't named yet. normal types are called so mainly because they don't already fit into a type. they aren't fiery or watery or a plant or anything like that, so they're just normal.
I do remember there being things in the games explaining it a little, but I've been unable to keep up with the anime, so I don't know how fairy type was introduced in it
basic problem though, they all used to be weak to fighting but suddenly gained resistance to it
vikingdrizzit well, nothing's perfect when you make changes to something. similar happened when they added Steel and Dark types with gen 2. having been a much smaller franchise that hadn't been going on as long at the time, those changes didn't seem as big, but even so.
That does not account for Game Mechanics.
I believe there's anothery reason why the fairy type was introduced: to balance out some imbalanced types.
Or it could be to represent us bronies, but it's just pure coincidence.

Great video as always Proto :)
hey protomario what happend to melvin the magician from pokemon?
superbroly64DS
I have been researching, very hard to find evidence for this.
Dragons are already well taken care of with ice and dragon style moves without adding the unneeded fairy class pokemon.
fairy is pretty op in my opinion.
Xerneas is fairy and can easily defeat the other two legendaries from x and y because they are dark.
RockMr100
I agree, they are very op and I still believe that they added them for the female fans as the first pokemon game was mainly geared towards the male gamers(even if they wasn't trying to).
valor0dragoon
Finally someone who agrees!
I would assume the same reason Cubone learns Bonemerang. Because No other Pokemon has that equipment.
I like the way you think :)
its a good theory but if that was true the fairy type wouldn't resist fighting
+Doctor W That theory actually makes sense. The reason they have weaknesses and resistances is just for balancing purposes, otherwise the type changes/additions would be pointless.
*+Codrian Drasil* Or one could add onto *+DittoMaster6*'s theory that the pokemon have just recently and successfully acquired the Fairy Type, promoting research to what pros and cons these changes provide. Also, maybe Flabebe was a pokemon that was always Fairy Type but has just been discovered.
Or multiverse shennanegins with XY being the converging point of two multiverse timelines.
Why don't normal type pokemon just die and become ghost type, it would make as much sense
Or, you know, Gamefreak decided we needed a type to nerf dragon types
***** ....Killjoy.
A GAME my ass, I'm tired of seeing this everywhere.
***** Nerf the dragons! Couldn't stop laughing, even as I was typing this.
Theory on where Eevees come from in the other games (You can catch them in Kalos. I think they come from there!)
Ayla Osuna
I believe you can sometimes get them in gen 4 in the Pokemon Mansion's garden, on rare occasions. Same as some other Pokemon in there, such as Porygon. But yeah, I think Eevee came from Kalos too, then ported to other regions.
And/Or simply because they noticed that the Normal types in the Fairy Egg Group could have their own types, as they do not fit into the "normal" clique as they thought.
i have a theory why clefairy is a fairy type
fairy is in it's name.
Ikr
it it could of grew into the fairy type because almost everything can kill it
I know right
I have a theory of sorts.
Game Mechanics Answer - Dragons became OU, Poison became NU
But Poison Types are my Favorite!
Fairy now makes them better.
+ProtoMario dark types and poison types are far better than tinker bell any day of the week.
Clefairy is a tank XD
I always assumed it was a thing of Science Marches on; that Clefairy and others were always Fairy Type, but Pokemon scientists didn't know that type existed so they classified Clefairy as a Normal Type because it's was the closest thing they had; but then they discovered the Fairy Type and realized Clefairy and Togepi and the others were actually Fairy Type and reclassified them appropriately
At at least one point in the game, you are told that there was a "Discovery of a new type: Fairy type" and "It turned the whole type system on its head". So maybe they were Fairy type all along, and it was recently discovered?
I was thinking the same thing.
If Pokemon types work the same way animal classifications do, couldn't it be possible that Pokemon such as Clefable couldn't be classified as fairies at the time of their discovery and later researchers just found more Pokemon that had traits similar to Clefable's and had enough evidence to classify them as their own type.
Where Pansage Pansear and Panpour once Starter Pokémon in Unova becaus they have Hidden Abilities of all the Starter Pokémon
I have a theory!
Why is that type Super Effective?
Pokemon theory: Why can't I come up with a Pokemon theory!?!
Nice theory :D
I have my own why there are fairy types, nintendo wanted to improve gaming and player battling?
my theroy was always this: fairy types always had been around but they weren't discovered until later on. Also they may have been added by game makers to help bring down the power houses dragon types tend to be.
Myth:Lysander is a older version of silver
Yeah, they both have the physical characteristics as well as the personality.
I have a thought. We will assume this type classification to be forward in time chronologically. People in this universe classified Clefairy as a normal type, as that is what it fit into the most at the time. After a greater understanding of the nature of said pokemon (fairy types) was established, they then classified these pokemon as fairy type,
I theororize that it wasn't radiation, but that they discovered the typing later on, and put those pokemon into that category.
they couldn't have just magically "discovered" Fairy type because all the old types who are now Fairy could be blasted by Dragon moves :/
the simulators were flawed.
Lil Miss Epic ah, another person using an unsubstantiated logic to defend a biased stance that has no footing.
Google Working it says in the game that the fairy type is ''newly discovered'' so this makes perfect sense
There are several hero's in many games, Like in X and Y.
True... but when it comes to taking out the bosses of the enemies. Ex: Team Rocket, It
s only you taking them out. And while you doing one thing like going after one part of them, others don't go for the other parts.
Maybe fairy type wasn't discovered for a while. The Normal type could have been a catch-all for them until further research led to a new pokemon classification. It would explain why they dropped their original normal typing entirely. Kind of like bugs being a catch-all name for small crawly thingies with an exoskeleton before separating insects from arachnids
magnimite becomes steel type? no one cares clefairy becomes fairy type WE NEED A POKEMON THEORY! >.>
GuitraKing clefairy is a fairy fairies are fairy type HHMM
honestly, you could just say that the other regions just didn't do enough research, so they were like "fuck it, this one's a normal type" and then kalos was like "wait, these pokemon are actually fairies, but some of them have other attributes, like water or psychic"
How about the theory that the fossil Pokemon are Rock type because the fossilization and/or revival process changes one of their types?
Good question

The Sundial is completely separate from the Gym Proto!
Geezus!
Proto Mario here's is 3 ideas for pokemon theories
1) Do pokemon age when they evolve and how do they die.
2) Why do some Pokemon mega evolve.
3) How does the pokemon typing system even work?
Love those vids.
I did 2 of these.
Yeah my bad, I didn't see those vids yet,.sorry for.the trouble.
Here's a Pokemon Theory that's been bugging me for a while now, but: What the F*** is with Valerie's Eyes!? can you please Explain this to me?
She's the Laverre City Gym Leader in Pokemon X and Y, and specializes in Fairy Types in case you don't know.
I'm not saying aliens are Faries, but Fairies are aliens.
contacts, simple as that. she wanted to make herself as fairy-like as possible, so she wears that outfit and puts special contacts in her eyes so they look like that
Undertaker9711
I still find it Creepy though!
it's like: "Where are her Eye Whites!?"
I have a theory: Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon and Arceus is a god Pokemon that supposedly created the universe. Is Mew Arceus's daughter (or son) or closely related to him in some way? (I know both of their genders are unknown, but it just makes more sense that way)
Why don´t some of Ash´s starters evolve?
Anime logic 101, F@#$ the rules.
I didn't watch the video but there are fairy types because dragon types are overpowered
dragon's arent overpowered.... they are weak to themselves and ice, and now fairy, and are completely ineffective to it. and most of their dual typing neutralizes most of their resistences, and their only strength is to themselves.....
If cubone mother always dies then eventually threre will be no more female cubone making that pokemon extinct right but apparently not!
My best guess is because since most dark types use unfair tactics to win battles they decide to create a type that embodied a hero which is why I feel the fairy type was created and introduced in gen 6,but that is just my guess or theory
THEY DIDN'T CHANGE KALOS PROFESSORS JUST MADE A NEW TYPE CLASSIFACATION TYPES ARE DECIDED BYE HUUUUUUMANNNNNSSSS!!!
sorry I got mad proto.😳
But what about weaknesses and resistances
Ummm
I believe the anime is passing fairy types off as having always existed but were only recently classified as a type of there own.
The reason they call it fairy is because its a play on word for fairy tail. In fairy-tails the hero normally wins over evil or dragons, but is weakened by curse or poisons. Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are just some examples. So fairy types dose make since.
well not recently classifed as a type of there own but recently discovered as being a type, like back when Steel and Dark Type were introduced, same thing going on there.

good idea. but Fairy Pokemon are weak to Steel and Poison, and Curse doesn't really give off a Steel type feeling, more of a Psychic or Ghost type feeling. and it doesn't really explain why they can easily beat Fighting type either.

Fairy types were trash and should never have been added.

powerguy61666 I liked the friggin fifth gen. But fairy types were BS IMO
***** Not really, the immunity demolished the age of Dragon Ubers and are now creating the Fairy and Mega evo. Age.
Here is an idea you can choose! Amazing I know
This is the entire theory:
The ultimate weapon is based on the nuclear missile of North Korea. (maybe)
Before the ultimate weapon was launched, there was only one fairy pokemon, Xerneas.
Pokemon themselves are a specie; as are Humans.
People discovering new Types of Pokemon is the Pokemon Equivalent of our species.
You never cease to amaze me with these pokemon theories! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Once again, another great video by ProtoMario
Thank you
As much as I want there to be an elegant Wastonian explanation for this, I still have to say that I find the Doylist "It's a retcon for game balance; ignore the game studio behind the curtain" explanation more appealing. Maybe a hybrid explanation about "Normal" type being sort of an "N/A" type and people didn't know until recently about the Fairy type and initially miscategorised them. . . which somehow had a tangible effect on their strengths and weaknesses? Somehow?
**shrugs**
(I really like your channel, btw.
Thank you so much, I appreciate your comments! Please see my newer theories, they may surprise you yet.
Theory: Eviolite is what comes from a pokemon when it mega-evolves.
most legends show fairies as pranksters they could have been acting
I think they added fairy type Pokemon to add a bit more balance to the games, like how dark type was introduced to offset psychic type which were a little
Over powered. Canonically you could say the fairy types were a new discovery
BUT PROTO, what if the fairy type did always exist, but nobody did knew it, not even the fairy type pokemon, and since they didnt knew how to use their moves/powers they just adapted to normal type moves ;-;
Game Theory's Pokemon multi-universe theory explains why there is fairy types and mega evolutions only in certain games.
Lol that abusive geovani dough great vid proto :)
So clefairy... Floats in moonlight, draws energy from moon, lives on mt. Moon.
My thoughts: MOOOON
The reason Clefairy's type was changed to Fairy is pretty obvious to me. It's design and concept is based off a fairy. Heck, it even has "fairy" in its name. The type just didn't exist at the time so Gamefreak made it Normal type, something pretty versatile.
As for other Pokemon adding the fairy type, it's kind of like dark type... something that isn't too definite and can be added on to other Pokemon so long as it makes at least a little sense.
(Before watching video) I have two theories
1. X and y take place in a different dimension from previous games hence why mega evolution now exists and why fairy type now exists
Or
