Your first “reason” was exactly my problem! I was sewing a stretchy fabric that had a sort of rubberized pattern on it and every needle I tried failed until I tried a 90 needle (made for heavier fabrics) which worked like a charm! Thank you so much for the tip.
Thank you so much for your video....I spent several hours looking at videos to try to figure out why my machine was not catching the bobbin thread when I was fixing a bra. I watched a minute of yours, and immediately realized that I had the wrong needle. I changed the needle, and it worked. So many thanks for your video!
Thank you. This is so helpful. I have a budget sewing machine that periodically causes me problems with dropped stitches. This is the first time that I haven't been able to fix it with my usual strategies. Your video was just what I needed as I hadn't realised that the needle needs changing so frequently. Also, the amount of lint in my machine was a surprise!
Wow what a great video! I like that you explained all the possibilities of stitch skipping. It was a well thought of explanation and clear to understand. Thank you for helping me understand my sewing machine better.
Great video which explains most possible causes of skipped stiching to fix it to fix the problems. Zoom video recording is excellent & the photos of needle position inside bobbin are excellent & make very easy to understand. Thanks for creating such a wonderful video clip.
Thanks so much for this video! I never knew the difference in needles and quality of thread could be an issuie - which was a super easy fix!! I was getting sooo frustrated after 3 days of troubleshooting the machine.. almost booked it into the shop because I was certain I had done everything else right! Who would've known that these little things could make such a big difference
Great video..I'm having a problem with zig zag stitched not forming because the needle hits the fabric to soon and doesn't form the zigzag..more of a straight stitch.....so I'm guessing the needle bar may need to be adjusted..?
I got the skipping stitches problem when I sew knit fabrics. So I searched a solution in utube. I watched ur video. And followed your instructions. Changed the needle into new one, cleaned the bobbin area. Wow! It's worked. Thanks to you. Stay safe. May the Triple Gem Bless you 🙏!
Thanks. The cause of the issues I’d been fighting for almost 24 hrs was a brand new needle from a pack of 25 I’d already had new needles from. I guess all in a pack are not equal. Well, at least I know how to strip the sewing machine down because of it lol.
Improper needle position was my problem!!! I had issues with skipped stitching, bottom stitch looping, and fabric pulling into machine… couldn’t figure it out. I tried so many different things to fix each issue because I thought the causes were all different. Thanks to you I will be placing the sledge hammer back to where it belongs.
Discovered that my needle was in backwards watching this. 😅 Actually two of them! I’d replaced a stretch needle with an all-purpose before putting my machine away for two weeks. Got it out to sew and couldn’t figure out why my machine was skipping EVERY stitch! Now my 40 year old machine is sewing like brand new. :)
new to free motion quilting, I checked everything that is mentioned in the video and what changed it for me was using a quality thread!! (went from cheap coton thread to quality polyester thread...I still need to try quality coton thread like aurifil...)
It is amazing what a quality cotton thread can do to make your sewing so much easier! As we always say, there is no point in spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a sewing machine and then cheaping out on the thread you put inside of it :)
I did not hear anything about glue! I was using the "quilt basting spray" and was getting so many skipped stitches...I was ready to toss the machine. I did ALL of the suggestions with no luck. Until..I eliminated the glue! Now sewing perfectly 🥰. It wasn't the timing...just the handy dandy time saving glue!
Thank you! I’ve been close to slitting my wrists the last few days. I’m in the middle of piecing a quilt and all of a sudden my machine has started skipping stitches….but only when I am sewing SLOW….if I’m sewing FAST, it does t skip! I have UA-camd many videos and I have done everything, cleaned my machine, re-threaded my machine and bobbin, changed the needle THREE TIMES, changed the type of thread I was using….even PRAYED! Guess I’ll have to take it in and have the timing checked! How can the timing just all of a sudden get bad?😩😢🤔
I understand your frustration completely. I have a new Janome machine & last week it almost ended out in the garden... I've come to realise these modern machines have little in common with the old mechanical ones. They are just so complex! I'm also having to learn about needles & thread types It's less of a 'Beast' now than when I first brought it home thank goodness, as I learn more & more.
I've been having a problem with a new sewing machine i bought and I'm hoping that maybe someone might help me understand what might be the problem. I basically haven't used it and the first time I tried some stitch settings it seemed to sew fine but the next time I sewed it skipped stitches. At first I thought it might be because of the fabrics thickness but it skipped stitches even on a thin lining material. I tried rethreading the machine, the bobbin, changed different needles, tried different tensions and threads but nothing seems to help. The machine even broke a needle while I was trying to see what it would do on the overlock setting. And it did make kind of a grinding sound before it broke the needle. Is there something I can do to fix this or should I take it to service?
You mention everything to do to troubleshoot each issue , which is not the reason why my machine is skipping stitches . My problem is the timing on my machine is off . How can I troubleshoot this issue at home rather than taking to get checked out ?
If your machine's timing is off, that's something we highly recommend you take it in for a professional to look at and not handle yourself unless you are trained to do so.
THANK YOU! This solved a very frustrating issue I've had for the past 48 hours- I installed the needle backwards!!

@WonderFilThreads Do you have any thoughts on why it might skip every stich when backstitching but works fine when stitching forward?
VERY HELPFUL-THANK YOU
Thanks so much! I need to find what needle for top stitching.

I didn't think it was the needle, but it was the quickest thing to eliminate. It was the needle.
