I recommend keeping a bottle of Windex (or whatever your preferred glass cleaner is) and a microfiber cloth (or a roll of paper towels) in your trunk and then use 5 minutes of your downtime at Superchargers to clean your windshield on roadtrips.
A can of Sprayway and some microfiber cloths stay in my Model 3. I keep a clean and dirty laundry bag for several cloths so if you're doing a long trip and one gets extra dirty you can just swap it out. It'd be super useful for filming... but we've told this to Kyle over the years and I think he's got his way and it's not going to change.
Yeah that would drive me nuts.
The car is clearly telling them that wash liquid is low, blaming Tesla for the automatic wipers isn’t reasonable when your windshield looks like that, and from a security point of view it’s very unsafe not having washing liquid if something hits the windshield and you cannot wipe it at high speed. Just saying
@@ricardochoathe auto wipers are still quite bad though
When they pulled into the charger facing a Way-Mart, my thought was "For God's sake, Kyle, go in and get a roll of paper towels and a bottle of Windex". Your windshield is GROSS! LOL
Tesla road trips have drama other than charging (DOTC). Like Bojangles changing their sauce.... and hiccups. Love it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE watching the two of you on the road. Don't ever stop. You're the best!
I could watch Kyle and Alyssa doing road tripe every day (thought I wouldn't see these kind of videos anymore earlier this year, but yay, you're back together!). It makes me want EV (Model 3 in particular) so bad, but I don't drive enough to make EV worth the money and time (Don't have charger at my apartment or at work or anywhere close by).
When did he break up with the other girl?
@@Bossvideosify2 I don’t know. I think he made it clear he didn’t want us to know about his personal life much so we just have to go with the whatever flow lol. Whatever happened between them, I’m glad Alyssa is here and hope they are happy because it makes me (probably most of us) happy seeing them in the videos.
@@tant.5864 the other girl he was with for a short time made Bank
I he Anna lily Pearson is still his girlfriend, but I think Alyssa works for the company now and they have good onscreen chemistry. The champion road trippers are his father and his mother Kathy. They are hilarious in the car.
Pretty sure this is atleast 3 months old as they were talking about 4th of july ! So i doubt they're back together
Thank you for getting back to the origins of the channel. We are renting a Model 3 Long Range for a trip from Eagle Mountain Utah to Pacific Beach, Washington to a wedding . We anticipate purchase next spring finally.
3 days ago I completed a 3476 mile 5 day road trip 3 days ago from Minneapolis to the Grand Canyon and back in my '22 M3LR. I made 27 charging stops, averaging 18 minutes each, with no issues. The Superchargers worked first time, every time. The only extended charging stop that did not include lunch or dinner was the v3 in Moab (31 minutes) to allow a short (7 minute) charge in Blanding (v2 120kW) to get to Page with 12%. According to TeslaFi my car averaged 230 Wh/mile (I drive the speed limit for the most part, maybe 5 over sometimes). I overrode the trip planning several times when it wanted me to charge for 40 minutes to an hour when there were multiple Superchargers in between. If it weren't for the phantom braking, this car would be a nearly flawless road tripper.
So true across on all points. Tesla has to fix phantom braking. It takes just one really scary experience and anxiety is too high. Shame because everything else works so well.
Say more about the phantom breaking please….does it kind of let off the “cruse control” and softly apply the breaks or does it try to emergency break to a dead stop in the middle of the freeway? Are you able to override if you move quickly to push on the accelerator? How often does it happen? Once every 1,000 miles or so?
@@fpartidafpartida Sometimes it's a slight hesitation of 1 or 2 mph and then resumes. Most of the time it's hard deceleration, with anything loose flying forward in the car. When there's no one behind me I have let it go to see what it will do. A typical episode at 70-75 is hard braking down to ~50 mph and then resuming speed. Sometimes it starts to speed up and slows down again. Cresting hills is a common place for it to happen, or when the road has a water mirage. If there's a car behind me I keep my foot on the accelerator to prevent getting rear ended. Sometimes I've accelerated 1 or 2 mph above the cruise setting because the Tesla won't automatically brake when you do that.
It only did it once or twice on the first day. It didn't do it at all on I-70 in Colorado the second day, but once I headed south from Moab on US 191 and southwest on US 160 in Arizona it did it multiple times until dark. It didn't do it at all at night on Arizona 98 to Page and I don't recall it happing on eastbound I-40 from Flagstaff to Albuquerque. The worst was northbound I-25 from in Colorado from Trinidad to Pueblo, where it was doing it repeatedly, and the water mirages were the most prevalent. I don't recall any specific instances after that the rest of the way home, I-76 from Denver, I-80 across Nebraska, I-29 to Sioux City, then angling northeast to Mankato and the Twin Cities.
The problem is that having experienced this so many times, I don't trust the car on the highway especially when there are cars behind me. Once the other companies have access to the Supercharger network I'll be looking to switch. Phantom braking is not limited to Tesla, but I don't know if it's as common in the others. This car has been a great daily driver. I've exceeded the EPA rating every month since May with my 30 miles a day in town. I really enjoy driving it locally.
Kyle
Thanks to your videos I purchased a Tesla Model Y. Took delivery in May. Did a road trip from central Pennsylvania to Oregon. Drove up east side of Oregon and down the Columbia Gorge to Portland and then up to Astoria and down the coast to Reedsville. From there inland to I5 and down to Medford. From there to Crater Lake National Park. Then down to California and on to Reno. From there back home across I-80. Used the route planner almost entirely. Never had a supercharger issue- not one! And did I mention I’m 75. Loved the experience!
Can’t wait for Kyle and Alissa to review the new model 3 when it gets to U.S
It has a softer suspension, is quieter and looks a bit different. Kyle does not like "no-stalks", the rest is identical.
Any word on when the Highland is coming to the US.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 i prefer stalks over buttons too. After driving cars for over 30 years I dont see myself driving without one.
Kyle is planning to test drive the M3 refresh in Europe before it comes to the US.
@@mrmangoguavaguyabano You have of course tried it out for yourself for at least a week or so and THEN and ONLY THEN decided you stick with your Oldtimer. right? RIGHT???
When the biggest issue during a Tesla road-trip is the availability of honey mustard dipping sauce, you know you have a good DCFC network.
I would love a video about getting the coolant valve fixed. It would be interesting to show how incredible tesla service is just like their super chargers!
Same. I have the same issue. Tesla quoted me over $1400 to replace the 5 way valve actuator and the super bottle. I ain’t doing that. I don’t think the super bottle even needs to be replaced. The actuator is only a $45 part, but it needs to be calibrated after repair. Trying to see if electrified garage can do it for me… I didn’t even know there was an issue with the car until I tried out service mode after watching these videos.
Tesla service gets mixed reviews.
Shill
Always so fun seeing you hit all the chargers i always use!! Mount Vernon, Effingham and Marion are my favorites!!
Classic OOS road trip ❤ even with the bugs on the windshield driving some commenters crazy. Just missing the ring from the suction cup stain on the windshield. 😉 Lovin it!! 🥰
Rain sensor: Clean the windshield above the windshield camera unit. You don't need to clean the rest. The camera unit has an up facing camera for rain sensing. In the car I keep a squirt bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol in it. I also have a roll of shop towels for doing the scrubbing. The combination is also great for cleaning and sanitizing hands when on the road.
I have these bugs in the trees over my driveway that leave droppings over everything. The combination of them and the LED street lights causes the wipers to run at night.
Obviously Tesla is trying to help Out of Spec viewers by providing an incentive to clean the windshield.
I agree with you. When my wipers misbehave I know it's time to clean the car.
The Up facing sensor ( not Camera ) is the Day/Night sensor for your headlights and interior screen dimming
Thanks for getting part two out. Love this model 3 trip.
Thanks for all you do for the EV community ! Always appreciate your work. The family and I did almost the same charging route from Central IL to Nashville. Your videos several years ago convinced me it was time to buy a model 3. Love my Tesla and making memories!
The best part of this video is the Bojangles. Need more Out of Spec Bojangle reviews.
just watched a 4 year old video you did on the etron prestige when it came out. what a difference in your videos, nice work!
Miles per hour makes complete sense. Since every car has different battery capacity, and different Wh/mi, using miles per hour is the only way to compare.
Really enjoyed you sharing this trip with us Kyle and Alyssa.
The supercharger strategy game is the best game that's included with the Tesla software!
That’s neat, I live right by Belleville and SAFB and drive that way all the time
We drove 1500km with a MY 2023 LR from German through Italy and it was spectacular. Always around 30 degrees C. AC was kicking the whole time. Everywhere are chargers available. Maybe not all in optimal spots but it was okay :) next stop is Austria and then back to Germany. 2 persons and well loaded with stuff like bags full of clothes, camera equipment, laptops phones Tablets etc.
We just road-tripped ours from Wyoming to Tennessee only one issue at a Tesla station. Just had to swap plugs no problem.
Are the South Dakota Superchargers any good ?
@@Ben-fe1ft they all worked on the interstate. Skipped rapid city because it’s still a v1 hope they upgrade it soon.
I just bought a tesla Model 3 yesterday! I'm officially in the tesla club my tesla is 2018 model 3 😮😅😊❤
After 130k miles if you have never cleaned out the radiator from accumulated leaves and bugs it can't be helping the car to cool itself. Enjoyed the trip!
I hate it when they change a good recipe, but let’s face it chicken tenders peaked with the original recipe, white meat, chicken tenders at KFC. I completely agree, however, no honey mustard sauce is a dealbreaker.😊
Alyssa is gorgeous and sweet, you take her for granted kyle.treat her how she deserves to be treated.
Car-isma.
Yes! He has been so condescending and rude at times, and she doesn't deserve that crap. I'm honestly surprised she puts up with him.
After watching the first video and this one I'm starting to find myself on tesla's website more and more.
Kyle and Alyssa’s roadtrip videos from 2020 are the reason I got my Tesla Model 3. It’s a dream to drive, so so easy to do long trips in and the software is unmatched.
@@DaviDeXtA I currently have a '23 Lightning and absolutely love it but the ease and lack of headaches have been weighing in quite a bit. I'll save my wallet the anguish and see what happens when they start to allow us in on the network before making a real decision...but a Model Y Performance sounds wonderful.
these videos sold me on a tesla.
90% charge in 38 minutes.
Tesla is like driving a car that just happens to be electric. Love my model 3
Would also be interesting to run the same test in 12 to 18 months when other car manufacturers start to bring their NACS models to market
How to tell everyone your American .... "Loves and Bojangles.... 2 of the best things on the planet..."
Kyle Seeing 260 mi range at 95% " We seem to have some degradation on the battery"
Also Kyle, 20 min into the video : * Rips and power slides two on different ramps *
Methinks these events may be connected :D
Great video even with all the bugs. 😊 Come on guys do your viewers a favour and clean the screen.😅
Even the hotel chargers were available and worked flawlessly. I thought for sure, if the trip was going to have charging problems, it would most likely be at the hotels.
How can Kyle wear a hoodie in 101F heat?
He's gangster.
My 11yo daughter does the same. 😅
For non-Teslas "A Better Route Planner" is a good alternative. I dont know if it takes weather and elevation into consideration as Teslas planner does. However, its not a bad app to keep on your phone.
ABRP does take elevation into account. It will incorporate real time weather if you go with the paid version.
The bit with the auto wipers going to town on a dry windshield at 6:00 should be the first thing prospective Tesla buyers are shown when shopping. It's unlikely to come up during a test drive, but it's one of the many, many little things guaranteed to annoy the ever living f.... out of you during actual ownership.
Along with paint imperfections, rattles and general quality issues
I’m with Alyssa Buccees looks like my version of hell, busy AF and loud 😅
Can’t you push the button on the stalk and spray some fluid to clean your windshield ? Or no washer fluid ?
Nice, Out of Spec motoring have became my work out videos hahahaha
I've really missed this kind of video ie. You & Alyssa. Great vibe and fun. Loving it.
But please clean your windscreen especially for these Road Trip videos ;) Please.
I was at the St. Louis charger back in July on a road trip in my Model Y. Inside that giant building is an indoor/outdoor dog park! Alyssa you totally missed out!
Do a video about the M3 repairs! Difference in charging behavior and repair costs.
Can you put the aero pans back on the belly - that’d be a good video showing range difference!
I noticed that my underside aero shield in my Model3+ got smashed by too many speed bumps that were too high and too narrow (they fit between the wheels). I found one on eBay for about 200 quid and fitted it myself as it was only a few bolts. It made a huge difference to my efficiency. I also agree they should sort out the auto wipers, they drive me crazy.
Great video! Thanks Kyle
Always look forward to new videos!
I am glad I am not the only one who overrides the SuperCharger recommendations. I wish there was a preference setting like more shorter stops or longer lesss frequent stop settings.
The Bojangles section of the Video is hilarious.
They added Haubstadt, IN stop in between Marion and Louisville. No longer a big long stretch
I’m glad they expanded that Nashville supercharger! Last time I was there it was full of Uber drivers; first time I ever had slow v3 charging speeds. Think it was around 40kW when I plugged in
I really do fancy a cross USA driving holiday in a Tesla. Yes I do already own a Tesla model 3 up in the north of Scotland.
Yes, give. The US infrastructure another ten or 15 years, us CCS cars sould catch up. Great video!
That St. Louis Green Street stop has an indoor/outdoor dog park thing called Bar K St. Louis. You have to walk to the other side of the building but they have restrooms you can use.
I love that Buc-ees charger south of Macon. I hated stopping in Macon to charge..
This video series was AMAZING. You literally have THE BEST EV videos on UA-cam. Thanks for all of the constant advice. Now, can you PLEASE clean your windshield when you make the next trip video? All of the hours of editing it takes to make these videos, and you can't take 2 min to clean bugs off the windshield??? Drives me nuts!
It’s great to see you two on a road trip again!
Video Idea: A road trip focusing on finding what regions it’s still a significant nuisance to use even the highly praised Tesla network. In other words, use that rally esque suspension and go try to explore the wilderness in Eastern Oregon, Northern Montana, Northern North Dakota, etc.!
And bring the doggos, we miss seeing them. 😁
They need to add chargers near glacier in Montana if your staying up there and don’t have a charger where you are staying it’s horrible trying to be in the park
Love the road trips but come on man get some washer fluid and keep it in the car on trips. Also you could clean the windows manually while charging to improve the viewer experience.
For someone who has watched these videos since 2020, it's nostalgic
It's sadly a trademark of the channel at this point. There's so much storage in the Model 3 as well that it's easy to keep some cleaner and use it at charging stops... it's not just for video either as it's really nice to have a nice clean window!
Try deep cleaning with soap of front windshield glass in front of cameras. You may have tiny spec of dirt or something telling camera it’s raining. Happened to me on long road trip. Good luck. Love ur videos…great content! 👍👍👍
I love these videos
I just love these videos !
Kyle, at the St. Louis SC....go around the next corner of the building where the main door to dog park/rest rooms/cafe is located.
I will be driving from Tampa to SF in March
ABC (Always be cleaning the windshield) nice video hello from Denmark
As much as I would love to get back into an Audi or BMW, the hassle of CCS is not worth it. There is no alternative to my Model S that I could actually road-trip with zero issues.
That long stretch Kyle mentions got a supercharger splitter in Evansville. This year Evansville even got a second supercharger.
Been to Salt Shack on the bay for lunch. Fun place.
Love those rims with red calipers.
Surprised Kyle hasn't mentioned them (yet). Martian mw03 forged!
Alpi and kempower will also help you other there probably. Over here in Europe, you can also only rely on these brands and ionity, but Abb, always be broken.
267 miles at 95% is still much better than the standard range, lol. I've never seen more than 220 in mine.
1:15:10 did you explain the cracked roof glass already?
With the latest Model X price reduction, when will Ellie and Blue get roomier accommodations?
I need to be in the car when Kyle drives! Need that adrenaline rush!
I appreciate that Kyle always takes the racing line on onramps.
33:20 why did you (her) turn off Bluetooth? It doesn’t take any significant energy while idle.
I believe that Marion IL SuperCharger has magic docks.
I love the salt shack 1:17:39
3:05 - Etron isn’t a great road tripper……..other videos, etron is a great road tripper with the flat charging curve.
Confused.
I think he means it's a great road tripper when all the chargers work as expected.
Kyle / Alyssa - re: @33:00 I recently found out that there is a way to use your phone key without Bluetooth... Tap the back of your phone where your key card would sit. Not sure if it'll work with iOS but it works with my pixel 7 pro. You can do the same by tapping the phone on the b pillar too to unlock or lock the car.
Id be curious to learn if it works for you on your 2019 M3 or 2023 MS. I have a 2022 MY. ... Let me know if it does!
Yes, do you ever clean your windshield! I'm watching video same splat i think for the whole trip.
Hey Kyle. I thoroughly enjoy your content. I am considering buying a 3 or Y next year and I also live in Colorado ( Highlands Ranch). Do you have any guidance concerning the federal and state credits?
Thanks for letting us ride along with you to Florida. :-) We can’t wait for summer to do a few road trips in one of our Teslas. I love those wheels on your Model 3. Remind me of BBS CHs. Oh and while Tesla sharing the network might be great outside of California I’m not looking forward to it at all here. LOL. Sounds stingy but our Superchargers are already busy here. Can you imagine a bunch of ride share bolts hogging up stations. I hope it works out but I predict angry Californian Tesla owners in our near future. LOL
I was going to ask why you no longer have shields on the bottom of your car that’s causing the drag you mentioned, then I saw this @18:42 😮 and now I understand 😅.
I wish I made the kind of money where I can throw away a full jar of salsa
WAIT A MINUTE! Kyle, Alyssa, How did the new Bojangles chicken tenders taste?
Just watch this and got me thinking have you been to the uk? Have you seen the new grid serve forecourts wondered if anything like these in the us?
Looked like a fun road trip but that stop on the windshield was driving me nuts! Lol I'd love a Tesla model y! How much was the drive in autopilot?
I'm planning on taking a Route 66 trip from Chicago to LA with a Hertz Tesla model 3, do you have any recommendations for charging stops? Is there a video of you with this trip?
Kyle, the service center replaced the aero cover on the underside of my car. I was hearing weird noises when going through water puddles during a rain. Not sure why you don't get your undercar aero cover replaced.
Enjoyed the video guys. I've made that trip from ATL. 330 wh/mi on the first leg? In the summer I get better than that in my 2016 S P90DL. You mentioned under body aero, but I'm wondering about wheels and tires. How much are those after market wheels hurting you? Are your tire pressures up and what tires are you running? I get surprisingly good efficiency on 19" PS4 summer tires - better than the all season (PS4 AS). Road material and condition also makes a big difference with certain concrete surfaces being the best.
I can switch off wipers in dry weather. I sometimes have them on auto but Tesla suck at sensing precipitation of any sort. 😅
You need to go to gas stations to clean your windshield before stopping at the charging station.
You just exposed a fatal flaw of the super charger network. No window washer buckets and squeegees. You still have to stop at a GAS STATION for those.
You get them in some of the stations in California. They are working on it
Your road trip vids are my fave Kyle and Alyssa! The wipers would want me to throw the stupid Tesla away. Cost cutting until nothing useful is left.
You were so close to me when you were downtown Chattanooga
Will there be round-trip videos for the trip back to Colorado?
Are you saying that when non-Teslas switch to NACS, they will only be able to use version 3 chargers? If so, their trip won't be as easy as yours because there are fewer Level 3 chargers.
Not even all version 3 either. Only some will be opened to non-Teslas.
The version 2 superchargers don't support CCS. Car makers have been saying they will get access to 12,000 superchargers. I think there are currently about 17,000 in the US. But more are getting built. In a few years it should be close to a non-issue.
The Inflation Reduction Act is shooting to having 4 DC fast chargers every 50 miles and a total of half a million chargers by 2030.
The stop in Columbia is always a difficult one for me. Do I go with the 150kW right off the highway, and have no other services around but a hotel, or do I go to the 250kW, which requires a bit of a drive through town, and even if I won’t get 250kW speeds? Usually I opt for the 250kW, because Hy-Vee is awesome, and I can use a clean restroom as well as have much more options for food while charging.
Plus there is a Starbucks inside the Hyvee.
Out of Spec Bojangles: Nerding out on chicken tenders and honey mustard!
