    By the way, 10 meter AM and 10 meter FM is awesome. This radio may be low power, but we are almost in the peak of the solar cycle, so 5 watts will totally work.

    If that tiny radio had SSB it would be a huge seller I don't know what these factories are thinking

    • @ku4uv
      @ku4uv 3 місяці тому

      The factories are probably thinking that if someone wants an SSB radio, they'd buy one. There's a big difference between AM/FM radio circuitry and SSB radio circuitry. Plus, you need a clarifier for SSB radios, that takes up additional front panel space. This particular radio is a designed to be about as simple as it gets. There are SSB radios out there for people that want an SSB radio.

      Not everyone wants an SSB radio, some people just want a small simple AM) FM mobile CB, not every radio needs to be SSB. Sheesh.

  • @Keith_WB2VUO

    One thing to remember is that even tge Narrow FM mode is too wide to legally use below 29.000 MHz. Also, a ham with a Tech is not allowed to run AM or FM on 10 meters. This radio is fine for General & above in the USA. Tech licensees need to go with a rig that will run SSB/CW/Digital...

    Not a bad looking radio, but for a little more money, you could just purchase a President Ronald 10/12 meter radio that will output close to 50 Watts. The President Ronald is also probably a bit better quality, along with a nice heat sink to keep everything cool. I have a President Ronald that use for 10 meter FM operation, and I am making plenty of contacts with it!

    Can it get the UK FM40? Also there are several FM oil industry legal channels shared with marine SSB from 25 to 25.200 !

    do you think they would be pissed if you went breaker breaker on 10meter?

    Ok, so let me see if I understand this. It's illegal to mod a true 10 meter radio to run on 11 meters, but you can mod this CB to run on 10 meters?

    • @bobdillashaw4360

      That’s a trick question right?

    • @tylerdean980
      @tylerdean980 3 місяці тому +3

      Not illegal to mod in either case for a ham, illegal to transmit on 11m with a 10m. CB radios have to be type accepted, ham radios do not

    • @ku4uv
      @ku4uv 3 місяці тому

      That is correct. It is not illegal for a licensed ham radio operator to modify a CB radio for use on the 10 meter amateur band. Amateurs have been doing that for years.

    • @Zombified-
      @Zombified- 3 місяці тому

      Licensed ham radio operators can modify anything and use it as we know (or should know) what spurious emissions, wattage restrictions and band restrictions are.
      CB radio users are not licensed and therefore aren't considered amateur radio operators. CB users can only use approved CB radios and can't modify stuff legally. It's assumed they have zero idea how to check for spurious emissions and most have zero idea what the power or frequency limits are.
      It's different. One is certified and licensed by the FCC. One is not.

      Agree. I modified a Midland 27/81 CB with a converter board from Withers company in the 80s after Ofcom gave hams permission to do this Gave me many contacts including YV5 Venezuela and Canary Islands on a cut down CB whip!

    For an improved 10m HAM ONLY mode, you need to cut the white wire. This will give you 10m only, with 5KHz "VFO" steps!

      12 m no but quite ok on 10m. Plenty of room for all modes. I modified an old Midland 27/81 for 10m with a converter board years ago from Withers communications when Ofcom relaxed the conversion rules for hams.. G4BTI.
