Thanks for mentioning Denys Davidov and providing some background. I've listened to Denys since the beginning. He's sometimes overly emotional & dire, which I haven't been able to understand. But I believe he's a loyal Ukrainian and is entitled to that. As such, I value his efforts and opinion - it's a useful contrast to more objective/ detached professional journalists. However, I've never understood why he's so very anti-Zelensky. Thanks for helping me to understand better with compassion.

You are absolutely correct about upholding peace. Peace can only be achieved thru strength. There should be no handout to those not happy with their conditions. Freedom must be fought for by the people, not enforced by the strong hand in countries that are not democratic. Humanitarian aid is different. But no country has the right to enforce it's system of government on anyone.

The argument that Europe is too far away from the US to affect America was the same argument used during WW2 until Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, China could easily do exactly the same thing to US military in the Pacific if they think they can. Japan thought Hitler's war in Europe was enough distraction during WW2 and China may see Ukraine as exactly the same.

In the beginning the Biden admin was careful, probing and progressively calling Putin's nuclear bluff.
Later it feared an attack on US servicemen with an attack on eg, troops in Syria, compromising re-election.
The elections were lost anyway, possibly fraudulently.

I hope Ukrainians understand how Zelensky went from a comedian to finding more strength and ability in himself that has few equals in History. Much of what he does is driven by his style and drive. If it was anyone else I have doubts Ukraine would have gotten much. Cometh the time cometh the man.
We should also remember that Ukraine has lost many of the "first adopter" soldiers who had the fire in their belly. The ones going in now might not be motivated at that level and perform lower. Perfectly normal cycle. The military must just recognize that fact and train up. 24/7.

    • @olasylvia1
      @olasylvia1 10 годин тому +7

And I hope people dig a little deeper and actually learn more about Zelensky's career before presidency. He was not just some "comedian". He was-is -a true artistic genius, as an actor and a writer and producer. His political satire was brilliant, as hilarious as it is profound. There are few people of his caliber out there. And all that amazing genius is showing in his work as a politician now.

If Biden wanted to win the war against Russia he could have easily done this by giving Ukraine everything they needed plus. The U.S. has plenty of weapons they will never use but withheld from Ukraine's military. He more or less stabbed Zelensky in the back and tied his hands. I agree with Georgijs. I'm a bit surprised to hear all the zelenskyy hate... as an outsider i can tell you that for the most part, people around the world absolutely adore him. I get that internal politics are a thing, and not every domestic voter will favor him, but globally, he is regarded as a hero. He turned down evacuation and instead requested ammo. He regularly visits the front lines to interact with his soldiers. He works tirelessly to go to every meeting, summit, forum that he can to meet with as many world leaders as he can to garner as much support for his country as he possibly can (Which is exactly what he should be doing, imo). How much international aid has Ukraine received off the back of Zelenskyy's tireless efforts? Ukraine has been hit with a lot of bad luck, but I would argue they have been extraordinarly lucky to have had a president like Zelenskyy in office when this tragedy befell them. A lesser president would have abandoned them and this war would already be over. I've been observing this war *every, single, day* since it began, and I'm of the opinion that without Zelenskyy's actions, Ukraine would already have fallen. I'd love to see people cut the guy a break, he's literally saving Ukraine.

Hi Georgjis, I love your frankness, information, and avidly follow you, so I'm taking the time to dispel one of your frustrations -- why Zelensky refuses to mobilize women, unlike countries like Israel. First, Zelensky is not a misogynist: just look at powerful public role Olena Zelenska has. So I am betting that what he'd say is that, to save Ukraine, he must both protect and rebuild the physical land, AND also save Ukrainians to preserve the culture and to rebuild the population! Even before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine been working to reverse a demographic crisis (fertility ~1.0) and the war has obviously not helped (just look up this year's UNFPA report
"Amid the war, Ukraine is facing a demographic crisis").
Even if one could guarantee a post-war recovery and population boom, just imagine the disruption to school systems and society if the boom were preceded by a 2-5 year gap with very few children).
Second, your observation that Israel conscripts both genders -- it's a completely different context! Israel has a young population, and they have one of the highest fertility rates (2.5 - 3.5) among developed countries, and till recently it was in peacetime. So Israeli young adults serve for a couple of years, put off fertility into their mid-20s --- but almost all are discharged physically healthy, un-traumatized, and can go on to have large families. It's completely different when you start with an aging population with below-replacement fertility -- and you're in a very hot war of attrition!
As a lesser issue, even if one could solve the existential risk of cannibalizing the future population, who would care for the young children with two mobilized parents? Given all the internal displacements, bombings, and an economy on war footing, the childcare infrastructure has gotta be in tatters. What proportion of young families would even have able-bodied grandparents nearby? And what about daytimes? What reforms would be needed to find/train enough older adults (not already employed) who could provide childcare, including dealing with the added trauma to kids *both* of whose parents may be on the front lines?

Is still puzzling thou how conscription age is at 25 where any other Western country has its conscription age between 16 and 18 years, except for France who has it at 20 (if I'm not mistaken).
I'm (in general) against war, but there's no denying how top peak physical condition (which is not just strength) starts to decline the closer one gets to their 30s and is only downhill from there on.
Mandatory conscription is only in place when your country is being invaded, what's the point of preserving 18-20 years old folks if your country gets conquered by the enemy?

Georgijs, I'm so glad that you are giving the more objective view of the breadth of Zelensky's job is as president. I think he did an amazing job in organizing foreign and domestic support after the full-scale invasion. He is an impressive motivator, and can explain things well. I doubt that anyone else could have gotten more aid out of the risk-averse Western governments.
After the full-scale invasion in 2/2022, it became incredibly hard to reform the military at the same time as fighting for Ukraine's life against the Russian Goliath. I wonder if he could have prepared the military more beforehand, to make the generals reorganize the military communication etc. into western-style combined-arms forces. I assume he'd had to first deal with some of the corruption, so that incompetent, corrupt officers would be removed, as well as generals who weren't willing to learn the western military principles?

Anyone who has even the slightest clue about Putin's track record, and who still thinks that there is a chance that Putin will negotiate "in good faith" is moronic beyond words. Seriously ... that level of clueless is astounding.

Just think of how many PLA units that are and will be mixed in as Both Koreans..
Their entire axis is trying to get experience with how to fight us and this war is perfect for them.

Sorry I missed the live stream - was helping my father in law move into a care home. Anyway, hope you feel better soon. The best treatment, if you can find them, is Ricola Green Tea, with Echinacea. It is sugar free, and it works better than anything else I've tried (and I have tried a lot!)

One thing that is not being talked about is that if you build it, you feel a need to use it. That is why the West is resilient to increasing arms production. It has been shown time and time again that a country with a large army looks for a war to fight. So, the way to stop such wars is to have a small military. Obviously, that can allow other wars to start. And that is why it is so important to stop dictatorships from having large armies.

great conent, i believe the main and more realistic argument for women infantry is that it changes the dynamic of squads on a psychological level. A soldier is more likely to make a bad choice to over protect a female soldier, stuff like that. just adds more variables that u cant control on the battlefield and the battlefield is all about controlling variables.

Interesting points about the Euro groups splitting off. I wonder if they are actually acting as a bridge from the hawkish states to less active? I really hope it is not excluding others.
If the bigger states take a stance (hopefully actually doing something) the inactive will follow. The key is The Uk and France need to concentrate on winning. The Uk government is still not getting the message out to the Uk people, priority is getting money for weapons defence and then supporting Ukraine properly 🇺🇦🇬🇧
