Really useful and clear presentation, thank you for the video. Given the complexities in junior doctor pay (eg. banding, additional locum shifts, various deductions), it would be really helpful if you wouldn’t mind breaking down one of your FY1/FY2 payslips so that people can get a better idea of what the final take home income is like for fresh graduates.
I am a retired hospital ophthalmologist but I have a doctor son and I watch videos to try to understand what pressures he is under and how I can help him so I would encourage you to keep making these useful and practical videos, sunjay! It’s spot on when you say doctors live in a capitalist world( with matching aspirations) but work in a socialised health system and I should point out that it would help young docs to think less of the money and more about the other rewards of doing medicine as a profession
I have heard that banding can boost income to 30-40% of the base salary but in this video you mentioned that the boost is of 5-10%. could you please elaborate that what the actual boost is after banding plus how much can a junior doctor make through locuming?
I’m not sure where you got the 30-40% figure from but as explained in the video, the exact amount of banding varies. This document by the BMA has the full breakdown if you’re interested: www.nhsemployers.org/sites/default/files/2022-03/Pay%20and%20Conditions%20Circular%20%28MD%29%201-2022.pdf As you can see, the highest banding would be up to 15% if you were working 1 in 2 weekends. As for locums, I will make a separate video on that soon!
Hi there!! I'm interested in internal medicine training in the UK. I have a question, after internal medicine training can those who are on a work visa take a few months break like 3-4 months before joining our desired speciality/fellowship (like cardiology, hematology, neurology) or is it that only British citizens can take a break of a few months after internal medicine training?
You deserve tons more subscribers! To the point, well articulated and excellent graphics 👍
Thank you so much, that’s really kind of you to say 😊
Great vid. Important to talk about all the obligatory/essential subscriptions to GMC/MDU/BMA/RCs etc. though.
Good point! I think I’ll make another video on those!
Really well explained, thanks Sunjay!
Glad you liked it! 😄
I found your video by chance , and i am really glad. This was a really good explanation.
Thanks! I’m glad you found it useful 😁
Deserves more subs for sure :)

Great idea! I’ll do a video on that too!
Very good Sunjay! Slick easy to understand video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😄

I’m really please you’ve found these videos useful 😊
I’m glad you related to that analogy; it is hard work at the moment but definitely worth it!
This is great Sunjay
Thanks!
Great video! If minimum wage is rising to £10ph it seems very low for anyone qualified to only earn £12/13 especially doctors!
I agree!

It depends where you are from and the work visa you have. Unfortunately for the vast majority of people coming from abroad, this wouldn’t be possible.
Nice video bud
Thanks 😊
