      Ramon Lazo l don’t really like Green Day but watch Billy Joe invite a 14-year-old kid up on stage to play guitar (badly) with the band! Audience went ballistic, even though the kids sucked on the guitar. The best birthday gift ever for that kid! Then, Billy Joe let him keep the guitar! Sometimes these stars are actually pretty nice guys underneath it all!

    People can say whatever they want about John's ego, but how many performers of his stature would have done what he did here? That was one hell of a cool gesture. How many fans can say their favorite performer took their guitar and closed out the show with it and gave it back autographed? NOBODY! VERY cool!

      Sorry to bring this up, but yeah, bono brings people ON STAGE and lets them sing and play instruments with the band. I beleive The Edge and Bono also let someone play THEIR OWN guitar's and keep them after the song. Larry mullin jr has also gave plenty of people his sticks and even a snare once i beleive. Still cool that john did this, and this type of stuff is what i live to see. I know what you were saying though.

    I think one of the biggest things to note is that he asks for permission first before signing the guitar (2:29). That is just a great showing of class and respect. Many other, more self-absorbed, musicians would have just signed it immediately without thinking about whether or not the fan wants a signature. Obviously, handing him the guitar is a pretty good indicator that he wants a signature, but you never know (maybe he just wanted John to play it).

He's either really inconsistent or did he use to be a junkie or something and was frazzled? He s definitely got talent but I've heard he's been rated in the Top 20 guitar players. Sorry but fucking way, there are guitar players that piss all over him. He's pretty good but he's still a slimy little cock puppet.

    Great gesture and great sound tech's! When he swapped it out the sound guys had it nearly muted for no feedback and noise plugging in the jack, then he turned up the volume and started playing a bit, the guitar was not cutting through the mix the way his was but a little later, it sounded perfect.

  • @MrJoeythompson10

    To whoever thinks this was fake because of the tuning... First of all it is more than likely that this guitar was already in E. Second of all even if it was in drop D, open, G, etc... you can still play in key if you know the tuning. Also count the number of times that he played an open string... You can tune a guitar in any tuning and move frets to compensate. With a guitar player as skillful as John Mayer, you could give him a guitar tuned to completely random pitches and he could figure it out in a few seconds. Third of all why would john mayer take time to set this up when hes got katy perry chillin in his tour bus. I could think of about ten thousand different things he could be doing instead. :p

    I don't think it is scripted what so ever. People talking about the tuning obviously have never touched a guitar in their life. What would he gain from doing something like this? Nothing! So doing this for publicity is out of the question and there is no logical other reason he would have scripted it.

      Which pickups and the setup of them will make a significant distance. The output of any given pickups alone, and on top of that how close they are to the strings. - Besides, Mayer might use fresh strings every performance, while the fan's guitar might have been on the dead side. - I noticed a drop in volume or presence anyway. - This is just the nature of different equipment.

    • @SkyFelixMusic
      @SkyFelixMusic 8 років тому +20

      The comments are ridiculous. The dude is a trained musician.... Even if the guitar was out of tune, he'd compensate for it by playing different notes. Clearly he knows it out of tune as he's tuning 2 different strings at the end.

    • @shoeonhead
      @shoeonhead 7 років тому +4

      Skyler Felix you can't compensate for an out of tune guitar like that. I think I've told you that before at some point too.

    • @theodorediuliomyers
      @theodorediuliomyers 7 років тому +1

      yeah you can. if it's flat, all you have to do is bend the notes up a little and they sound perfect.

    • @shoeonhead
      @shoeonhead 7 років тому +5

      Teddy Myers Teddy Myers you are simply willingly wrong or misinformed about how a guitar works. Especially in a fender style with a trem. If one string is off, it causes a tension deficiency for the rest of the strings and changes the tuning by a few HZ across the entire board. If you're not in tune, you're likely somewhere in between keys, and the correspondent notes are also going to be wrong. So if a normal E4 is 82 hz and the guitar out on that string by 4 Hz, you'd need to compensate 4 hz on that string every time you touched it, if that's not ridiculous enough. There's also the fact that each note up the fretboard 1.059 times the frequency of the last note, thus you have a multiplicative effect of incorrect notation. So you see you only compound the issue across not only the string out of tune, but every string, keep in mind they don't detune equally with improper tension. Some can go sharp while others go flat from that issue as any guitarist with any theory training knows. The more you deviate from the root note, the more severe the effect on the whole instrument. No player on earth can compensate that well, period. In fact, he live tunes the guitar right there in the video because he CANT compensate for the tuning difficulty but can hear that it's off. Even people with absolute pitch and damn controlled muscle memory just can't compensate for changes like that on the fly, don't be a fool.
