Why do people who comment on UA-cam not understand that basketball is played in 2 directions. Patty Mills would need to score twenty EVERY game with a true shooting percentage of at least 65% to make up for his horrendous defence. He was the worst defender in the NBA last season.

@@Fred316-i1f Ingles is a good pick n roll handler and can still shoot, he is a bit slow footed though and his height doesn't seem to be much of an impact (6'8 but slow and not really a rim presence). He's probably just not what australia needs as they already have a lot of shooting plus quickness.
@marcochen9117 looks like he'll get limited minutes, come on run the second unit for a bit and try to control the tempo and pick some good passes.

I believe this is one of the better spaced teams in the patty mills era of boomers, probably one of their best overall teams period. Almost everyone is an nba player of some capacity, and the ones that aren't are extremely capable as well.

He lacks the physical talent and all-roundness to be a star player in the NBA, but he has crazy fundamentals which makes him fill in his roles perfectly. This is exactly what FIBA needs, where team basketball is prioritized.

We (France) have 2 main issues:
- our 4 best players are our 4 interior players
- we seem to have no offensive plan, no go-to offense, and no creator apart from Wemby. Heurtel would have been soooooo important for the team.

Good game. You can really tell the NBA players by their confidence and consistency. Both teams were a little lax in defense on the perimeter. Australia was slightly better in on ball defense, with more steals France will be a problem but they need a quicker guard than Batum to guard Patty Mills.
Id like to see wemby with a porzingis type of player next to him. Some more rim protection spacing.

Can someone tell me how Australia got so good recently.
It has a relatively low amount of population (unlike US, Germany, Spain or Brazil and USSR when they were good), it has no tradition to build upon (like US, Serbia and Lithuania), plays in a really weak continental competition, doesn't have a strong domestic league (like US, Canada, Spain or Greece) or even a strong continental league (like US, Canada and every European country). Players are not particularly close either to US or Europe to go there en masse either. It's quite amazing who they've risen so greatly and won an Olympic medal, although they have choked a few more
