    Red Rock Canyon is spectacular. My wife and I both have Lifetime National Parks passes that we purchased before they raised the price. The timing was great for us. We have used the pass at the Grand Canyon and in San Juan at the forts. We hope to travel to more parks in the future. We always stop for a meal after our ride through Red Rock at the Cottonwood Cafe which is located just off to the right along the main road in Blue Diamond. We have seen wild donkeys roaming around the cafe area in the past visits. The nature center is a must see as well as the trails. We always bring visitor here. We miss the beauty of PA because of the green rolling farm land, but the beauty of this area quells our cravings for nature’s beauty.

    • @paulamckenzie
      @paulamckenzie 4 роки тому

      Ted Fisher Yep we often stop in at Blue Diamond as well when we are out there - even if it’s just for an ice cream bar at the little corner store. We’ve seen the burros there too, though not recently. And yeah, aren’t those National Park passes the greatest perk ever?!

    Forget Red Rock, I just like hearing your commentary and seeing you both have such a wonderful time together. I was out at the Visitor Center twice in the last month and did not know about the 9/11 memorial and brick garden. Will have to return this week to see it. I had been out there years ago but clearly this is new. That Sandstone Quarry is always packed, so I am not surprised that you found no place to park. The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce should pay you for these videos, or at least present you with an award. Take care!

    Having been to both places, I'd describe Red Rock Canyon as a miniature version of Capitol Reef National Park. In other words, if you like Red Rock, you'll love Capitol Reef. I actually preferred Capitol Reef to the more-popular Zion & Bryce Canyon parks - if only for being less crowded. The Capitol Gorge & Grand Wash roads are particularly scenic (and bumpy) @ Capitol Reef.

    What a lovely coincidence to meet those people. My granddaughter said she saw you once at calico basin. Oh those wide open spaces and majestic mountains🙂Before we left it was breaking my heart because they were always covered in a chemical haze that no one seemed to notice but I remembered how they looked when I first arrived in 2010. How I hate the people doing this to our entire planet and destroying the ecosystem on land and water. I never tired of looking at those mountains. They constantly left me enthralled for some reason but I couldn’t even enjoy them anymore because i just felt impotent rage at what the evil ones are doing to us all. I never got to take the girls hiking except small ones. I was always afraid the older one would fall because she’s always falling over things into lakes etc 😀 made me paranoid. You should have seen me at the Grand Canyon 🤪 thank you again for helping me in my homesickness❤️🙏🏻

    I'm curious about something Dale. I'm a big PBR and NFR fan. In one of your future videos can you show the back of your NFR vest? I wanna see if there's a bull rider on the back of it. I wanna get a vest just like yours. I'm a rodeo fan just like you.

      Dale’s NFR vest (well all of them lol) has the cowboy on the bucking bronco emblem that is the hallmark of all PRCA Rodeo gear. He has a couple PBR shirts but not a jacket. We are huge PBR and pro rodeo fans, so glad to meet another one - it’s the greatest community in all of sports! Long live cowboys... 🤠 🐴

    If you had to pick one with a trip to Vegas, the short drive to Red Rock or the long day at Grand Canyon west rim ?

    • @DaleMcKenzie
      @DaleMcKenzie  3 роки тому +1

      Well I will be honest - we have not gone to the west rim. It seems a little too structured or too many rules or something.... We have been to the south rim, which is the classic spot for Grand Canyon, and it’s utterly spectacular. But that’s a long day trip - better to stay over in Williams, AZ.
      So with all that being said...if you want some desert and mountain scenery, a nice hike to some petroglyphs, without investing too much time from the rest of your trip, Red Rock is terrific. So is Valley of Fire.

    I saw the park added a lot of parking in 2018 ... you mentioned limited parking a lot and your video posted 2 years after the expanded parking. Just confirming it was filmed AFTER the expansion and there's still problems?

      Hello - yes, we filmed this in January of 2020, exactly 3 years ago. Parking at Red Rock Canyon can be challenging on busy weekends when the weather is beautiful -- particulary at the popular locations like the Calico Hills, the Petroglyphs, etc. The parking lots are not huge. But, people do park along the side of the road (since it only goes one direction), so don't let that stop you from going! It's a wonderful park!

      TC Mayes Thank you TC, we always enjoy hearing from you! 😊 It is really good to know that people are enjoying watching stuff that is away from the Strip - opens up many more possibilities for us.

      Ohhh don’t get me started! When I first lived here, you could drive both directions. I used to go to the Calico Hills to catch some rays and then turn right back around and drive out!

    My girlfriend and I are going to Red Rock Canyon this week. She is pregnant and I want to propose to her there. Do you have any spots that are not too hard to walk but offer amazing views?

    • @DaleMcKenzie
      @DaleMcKenzie  3 роки тому

      If you go on a weekday, and take the 13 mile scenic drive, you should be able to get a parking spot at the highest spot on the road - it’s an amazing overlook with miles of views in all directions, and a unique lone piñon pine tree that’s a great photo spot. Really no walking at all, just step out of your car and go a few steps into the surrounding desert.
      Congratulations and good luck! 🍀 ❤️

    Those petroglyphs are gone! It's a Shane they didn't stop people from climbing there in time to save them. There were many more than that.

    What a perfect idea for a Sunday drive! (I wonder if folks still take Sunday drives?) Anyway, a nice Sunday lunch (Summerlin?) then pile into the car for sightseeing and a hike. Great video. Thanks!

    • @paulamckenzie

      Charles Hamilton Ummm we still take Sunday drives - out to the desert! Sometimes you need to escape the big city, clear your head, breathe the air.
      And yes, lunch in Summerlin is the perfect complement, and actually that day we did just that - only afterwards - at the Lazy Dog Saloon. 👍
