  • 'Sammakka Saralamma Jatara', a four-day mega tribal festival, began at Medaram village in Mulugu district of Telangana, tribal devotees offer obeisance to Goddesses Sammakka and her daughter Saralamma at Medaram which is located in a forest area. This Jatara is known for witnessing one of the largest Tribal people gatherings in Asia.
    People offer bangaram/gold (jaggery) of a quantity equal to their weight to the goddesses and take holy bath in Jampanna Vagu (stream). The rituals entirely conducted by the Koya Tribe priests, in accordance with Koya customs and traditions.
    This fair is said to be the largest repeating congregation of tribal communities in the world. This is also believed that after Kumbh Mela, the Medaram Jathara is the 2nd largest congregation of devotees in the country.
