The views on this have boosted since The Avalanches announced their new album, "Wildflower." This news may have also made new fans. If you're just finding out about The Avalanches, in addition to "El Producto" I recommend checking out "Live at the Cornerstone," "Soca! Sirens! Brains," and "Some People." :)
Dean Flory mate. They are very active. They just don't realise many albums. Some fans believe their best work is the mixes they make. Check out the big tent set if you haven't already and hold on to your socks. It is astronomical.
This album is too hard to find, wiki does not even list it in their discography, I seen them play in according to wiki about 1997 upstairs in a venue to about 20-30 people. sitting on a red couch with the Avalances playing about 5 meters away. The 2 minute needles were also there (DJ dexter and Dela Cruz and I others, I seem to remember a tonne of turntables) , Dela Cruz describes the time as "The Avalanches live shows in these early years were notoriously anarchic, as Dela Cruz describes each gig as having seven sub-plots to be pieced together after their sampledelic carnage concluded. Retrospectively perhaps, the beautiful chaos was never destined to last. " Heavily carpeted analogue synths to keep them warm. Other than that I remember being blown away and it being the best gig ever. Thought I would share since this all seems be sadly lost in time.
saw them twice - first at a music festival - it was badass - playing pure madness with a uniformed dancer lass working a theremin - then saw them a few years later in a pub in Fitzroy they were down bad - playing a shitty jazz wanker set and the crowd booing them - its hard to believe but it happened
How is it that I'm an Aussie, 32 years old and only today am hearing this album?!? Frontier Psychiatrist is one of my favourite songs as a kid in the 90s; but didn't know they have albums haha. Dang, legit this is a banger
@@Pkmn20 I think an integral part of this sound is not having an overarching narrative, and more of a authentic and randomness type style. But I mean I guess @14:48 on under inspection there’s a lyric referencing the chicken fish on the cover, so there’s a bit of narrative for you?
I wanted to hear this EP so badly when I first discovered The Avalanches in 2003 and downloaded Run DNA through Limewire. Google was no help whatsoever, and I'd get links directing me to the cigar brand and, "Did you mean Run DMC?" Now that I can listen to it, I put it on loop and let it go for hours.
Because the pre Since I left you kind of work was only for Australia. From which, to be very honest, not that many artists come from. (Yes, besides a Kylie Minogue for instance) I got most of their EPs and singles from fans from Australia back in the day. Their first things have something really Beastie Boys like!
ok this is pretty darn different from Since I Left You.. But you can hear the gorgeousness in the making. It was a very wise decision to stop singing on their songs though lol
@MO it was the band's tightness and collaborative atmosphere that made SILY possible. Probably becauae of the sonic soups that make up each track. I like Wildflower, the omission of Seltman (even though chater and seltman can both direct music) is it almost like the beatles losing McCartney right after A Hard Days Night.
@@scottherf I have always thought Darren Seltman lent so much to the sound and chaos on SILY. You can tell the difference on Wildflower. They are not the Avalanches without him
The fuck? My version of Rolling High does not have that 2 minute Rockefeller Skank kind of tune inbetween. Mine's minus the 2 minutes and that is it. I go with Rolling High and Rock City.

+Dean Flory Those aren't EPs. Just mixtapes/recorded live sets.

I wish the original hip hop segments on Wildflower had been provided by the band instead of features.
Out beastied the beasties on this one. What a perfect EP.
I spent months trying to track this EP down after I saw them perform on an episode of Recovery. It’s one of my most treasured records!

Was it upstairs at the old bar?
This is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end.
Under inspection. Officially my new jam.
Welcome to the inner circle.
Really reminds me of Deltron 3030 and Dr. Octagon
I still absolutely love this EP.
I love this album!! Run DNA for sure. Rolling High too. "It's in my backpack!"
So glad this has been uploaded here. Was struggling to find it anywhere else
Best EP ever... 20 years later, best EP ever !!!
Its in my backpack!
This is fucking sick, how did I only hear of this now. -- super next level.

I didn’t think frontier psychiatrist came out until their debut in 2000
omg i havent heard this in like 10 years or more, yeah baby! this is awesome, avalanches for life!
I will die on the hill arguing that the outro of “Rolling High” is still one of the hypest moments in their entire discography
Me and you both. I use to think the middle of Diners Only was the hypest moment in their discography.
Of all the songs, Rap Fever, Rock City and Run DNA are very solid tunes.
Let's face it, the whole thing is a low key masterpiece.
This is so unbelievably good.
i love sily and wildflower, but this is the peak imo
gsboss I wish they had a couple albums worth of material from this stage of the band
mm if they had this sound plus a coherent album narrative, that would be amazing

we're here because you're looking for the best of the best sir!!
So good. 3 - Rap Fever
in under inspection, theres an isoprophanol aphex twin sample in there
I love the Beastie Boys/Red Ants vibe, I'm going to go buy the CD off a collector's site

I have many memories with the "avalanches"

I forgot I got this on cd 😂. Just went thru my collection thats boxed up. Yeah this ablun was freakin awesome. 🙌
Thanks for this!
Direct to the hard drive
I'd love to know the samples used in the outro 19:42 if anyone knows. Super mellow and cool and I could listen on repeat all day!!
This is unbelievable!
Remember this from Recovery!
Its in my backpack!
Sounds like a mix of B-Real, Cypress Hill, and The Beastie Boys! ;) I like their flutey lusciousness! 💟
The Beastie Boys from Australia
this is good on a revisit
Why does Darren Seltmann mention Taylor Swift at 9:40? She was eight in 1997. I'm sure it's just a weird coincidence but...
But what exactly
Not sure, but it seems to have something to do with Super Heavy Duty Eveready batteries, if that helps at all.
love this ep!
I dunno what accent Darren is rapping in on this EP but it is one I have never heard before
Some of these would have been great for the Jet Set Radio games soundtracks
man this ep was my shit back in 2015 lmao
its all there
From a Wish version of Beastie Boys to writing one of the greatest albums of all time.
Where can I download this so I can turn the gain up?
99% rare items like this: Soulseek.
Or Discogs. Around 40$ or so.
New album on the way!
If you dig this peep kool Keith/dr octagon.
Seriously, does ANYONE know where I can find the lyrics for Rap Fever? I NEED TO KNOW
ok this is pretty darn different from Since I Left You.. But you can hear the gorgeousness in the making. It was a very wise decision to stop singing on their songs though lol
My god..... We re so not on the same planet !

Does not get better than this. Can not, in fact. That's the tragedy and the beauty, in equal measure and dose.
@@scottherf I have always thought Darren Seltman lent so much to the sound and chaos on SILY. You can tell the difference on Wildflower. They are not the Avalanches without him
So annoyed I can’t buy this anymore, along with the avalanche athletic t shirt.
I bought a copy a month or two ago. You can still buy them from Discogs for only an arm and a leg. Small price to pay when it comes to these guys.
Holy shit this is amazing WTFFFFF
Now I think this album kinda reminds me of another Beastie Boys inspired act, the Japanese hip hop group RIP SLYME
Heavily reminds me of Beastie Boys
Why is this in your channel LOL I love The Avalanches. What do you think of their last work?
Ahh slightly different than the actual EP... Awesome band live back in the day, Meredith music festival, espy at St Kilda.
how is it different
Identical to my copy.
RAP FEE-VAH
9:40 I still think Darren is saying “Taylor swift and pots and pans”
The fuck? My version of Rolling High does not have that 2 minute Rockefeller Skank kind of tune inbetween. Mine's minus the 2 minutes and that is it.
I go with Rolling High and Rock City.
it's so weird to hear the intro bit not lead into undersea community. I thought the intro was just part of that song lol
Weird, that first rapper almost sounds like Danny Brown, ha. I know it’s not, though he would’ve been like 16 at the time.
This was in their Beastie Boys mode/...very different to how they ended up.
like, the record its from, id like to hear the original
Who's got my copy of this? I will find it one day...."cocaine, bubbly whee that's rock city!..." Ah the memories..
Its been 7 years, any luck in your search?
This is what you get if Kool Keith and Beastie Boys make a baby
si si si
Foo Fighters
15:57
Stuff of the future.
Aguante Demattei
sounds like some beastie boys shit..............fer reeeeel
