Watch me dance around my shop waving a paint gun in the air and managing to get some paint on my truck ending in a wonderful, somewhat original looking rustic look.
This amazing rusty pile is equipped with a 5.3 LS breathing through a 76mm turbo. Watch my other videos and upcoming videos to see if I can keep uncle Rodney from coming out the block as we turn this Holley terminator up.

Dam bro, looks so dam good, I'm getting ready re do my patina on my 68, I did it wrong the 1st time, I'm gonna do what you did but ill do black, rusty red, the hugger orange with a white top then clear it. I shaved my drip rail on mine and I have the new flush mount windshield and rear glass, can't wait, watching you work on yours makes me wanna do mine asap but fkn doing a addition to the house

Look up homegrown custom FAB and they have a quick video of my 68 when they did the 4 link on it but you'll see how I did the patina but I don't like it, I like your method better. But look em up on UA-cam and you'll see

Nice. Just searched for this and the black underneath was exactly what I was looking for. I’ve got a blue 72 elco that had an engine fire before I bought it and think this would look good on there.

Ive not done any painting and I've got a rusty truck I'm about to try and bondo up and patina. If you get a chance would love to know what kind of sandpaper you used for the effect and what kind of paint , How you prepped it before you sprayed black? All that good stuff ahaha. Thanks man

It was just solid black base coat. I don’t remember the brand I was trying something new. It didn’t hold up well. Next time I will use ppg.

The high gloss over faux-tina really works! Great job. What was the color you sprayed over the black? Is it a super light powder blue?
Thanks yeah it’s a very light blue it’s the factory color I do not remember the paint code if you want it I can find it
@@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 - thanks. Paint code is not necessary. Just knowing that it’s blue and not plain gray is helpful.
Yeah the color doesn’t pick up on camera very well. sometimes it looks white. sometimes it looks gray but it’s a nice baby blue in person.
Why does everyone clear their Patina with gloss? They make Matte clear coats that would alot more realistic.
Just preference. But it definitely irritates some people to see fake patina.
Did you wet sand after or just leave it be? Looks super smooth?
No buffering I just turn up the pressure and hammer it on to make the high solids clear slick out.

I wasn’t a fan of it myself.
The body gaps and overall condition of the body is pretty rough. Thanks to thin aftermarket parts. So this was the cheapest easiest way to paint the truck and stop the rust.
It turned out much better looking than I expected.
People love it. I can’t even stop at a red light with out people complimenting it.
What color black and blue did you use?? Been planning on doing this to my 72 Nova and I love your color choices!

I used PPG shop line JP202 primer surfacer on this and I used sherwin Williams Dimension base. The primer is a good cheap primer and the base was what I could get that day neither one or anything special but both work just fine

@@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 I’m buying my brother 67 c10. I did a patina paint job on it a couple years ago but it was rattle can. I’m wanting to do one like yours. I want to do that old Chevy blue color on top. Anyway I’m hoping not to spend over $500. Like you I’m not too worried about small dents . I may replace a fender on the passenger side . I’ve got ideas about making it a shortbed too so obviously that’s way more than $500! I got a lot of ideas in my head ! If you look at my channel there’s a video on the 67c10.
@@ksduathlete if you’re wanting a glossy finish I definitely recommend going basecoat clearcoat and make sure you buy a clearcoat that is easy to buff.
Only reduce your base 25% and spray it 75% overlap. Use a tack cloth between coats put an extra coat of clear so that you can send some off if you have to buff.

@@cdnbroncolife1889 71994 is the upper radiator hose # but if I had a truck water pump It may not work.
I am running the LS1 Camaro water pump.
But it does look like I cut this hose to fit so it might would work on the truck style if it wasn’t cut
I believe you sanding with a 320 paper right ?.
I sanded the blue with 600 and then used a red scotch bright to get the it to look more natural.

If you shaved the gas filler did you remove the tank out of the cab? And where did you relocate it?
I made a fuel cell and mounted it to the frame rail just like the 1973 and newer trucks.
I have had multiple real patina trucks and this is a great effort and nice but matte clear may have been better-

I can always sand the clear with 800 or wash it with a scotch pad to give it the flat look where I want it and be shiny where I want like the real thing.
What are the two colors that you used I want to match it to a gbody I got
The blue is the factory 507 blue and the black is just generic straight black.

I wouldn’t have clear coated it. Shiny patina makes no sense
It look dope you can actually whipe and wax the clear so you have a clean patina not a dingy dusty patina truck that looks dirty. Don’t get me wrong patina with out clear is bad as well

It’s got a black epoxy then black base so both
how many coats of prime,base,clear did you do?
It has 2 thick coats of 2021clear, 1 coat of the blue so it was easy to sand off, 2 coats of the black primer.
It’s starting to have issues where the black shows threw. Because the black does not have UV protection.
What color blue is that?
Gm 507 blue. It was the original 1968 color

There’s black metal primer, then gray filler primer, on the body work. Then I sprayed black base, blue base, then clear 🥵

@@arlenmartin8672 you don’t need anything fancy but it it’s much easier to achieve with a good gun. But do not go cheap on the clear coat.

Sorry to bother you again but about how long did you wait to spray the blue over the black and how long did you wait to sand through after spraying. Also how long did you wait before you did the clear coat.

Painting patina on an old vehicle is like buying jeans with holes in the knees, tacky and pretentious. Shoulda left it black.
Judging by everyone’s reaction now verses when it was black for 4 years. I’d definitely say people like the “Store bought jeans with holes in it” much better lol 🤘🏼
But just like I said in the beginning of the video. The body on this thing fits like hell with all the aftermarket parts.
Painting it correctly, all black would look horrible.
Besides there are thousands of black c10s on the street. I’ve yet to see another patina blue c10, but yes I’m sure they are out there.
