I've always loved Knightley and Emma more than Darcy and Elizabeth. You look at Lizzie and Darcy and think, "Wow, those are two really awesome people. They have a real shot at happiness together." but when you look and Emma and Knightley you think, "Wow, those two would be absolutely miserable without each other."
Every time Emma starts talking about being friends and Alex's face falls, I always picture Darcy watching and nodding and saying "yeah, I feel your pain man."
My thoughts while watching this episode: Look at Alex, standing all James Deany in the doorway... No, don’t got back to the office! You need to catch up on things here! EMMA HE’S NOT IN LOVE WITH HARRIET DON’T YOU WATCH YOU’RE OWN FOOTAGE!?! G-D D---IT ALEX STOP LEAVING ROOMS! Aw pretty flowers... ...guys he just said it. he just said the line... Oh, I can just imagine BMart to be more happy than any of the rest of us about this ep! Like those would be his exact words... ;) btw, WOW it's awesome that you join the fandom, like you didn't know what would happen!
"You know me, you know that I am difficult and grumpy and set in my ways but if you let me, I'll spend every day trying to make you happy." Right there, that's all I asking from life. I need a Mr Knightly.
A few other great things about this episode: --their initial hug, they are both holding on for dear life and it's beautiful --Emma's growth and maturity FTW --in his office when he leaves the room, Emma's "wait where are you going?" Is positively heartbreaking, great job Joanna --Alex must be psychic cause he managed to get flowers that are both beautiful AND match her outfit perfectly (so Emma approved) --both his little nod and her second more hopeful "flowers are romantic!" Is adorable --THE LINE. YOU KNOW ALREADY. --"obviously you don't have the words either (chuckle)" SNARKY KNIGHTLEY MANAGES TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE EVEN AS HE PROFESSES HIS LOVE MY GOD MAN STOP STEALING MY HEART AWAY WOULD YOU --her fear about wrecking their amazing friendship--I really liked that cause it's so realistic. --after that kiss, his mouth twitches and his voice shakes with emotion--I mean c'mon, somebody give Brent Bailey an award already, that was beautiful and wonderful --and his slightly self conscious "how was that?" SO relatable and realistic (love to the writers here) All in all, so amazing. Sorry if this is overkill, but this is what happens after watching the video 1000x and analyzing all the wonderful comments :) love you EA community (esp. James Brent Isaacs you literally crack me up you handsome devil you)
The language of flowers: Orange rose: desire, enthusiasm, and passion; seen as a bridge between friendship symbolized by yellow roses and love represented by red roses. They can be an expression of fascination or a gift to say, "I'm proud of you." H/T: Reader's Digest. Purple iris: faith, hope, and wisdom; may also express courage and admiration. H/T: Proflowers. Pink calla lily: admiration and appreciation. H/T: Teleflora. Alex Knightley, you are one romantic man. #Knighthouse
They kind of used it. I mean "Maybe if I loved you less, I could talk about it more." Is pretty much the same thing, but the "might be able to" should have been there.
Well, this is the man who, in real life, bought Joanna flowers and made her dinner and then formally asked her to be his girlfriend. Who does that? ALEX KNIGHTLEY, APPARENTLY. :D
The fact that Alex makes Emma laugh while simultaneously looking at her like she's the most precious woman in the world is why I think #Knighthouse is so much more romantic than Dizzie. Bernie, thank you for unearthing the treasures that are Joanna Sotomura and Brent Bailey. These two have been a true joy to watch and discover as they have graced our screens in the past ten months. They've outperformed everybody in every PD production, which is saying something. I just hope we see them more often!
I just rewatched ep. 9 (because of the "I could get a girl flowers!" line :P), and I am BLOWN AWAY by Emma's character development. It really shows how well Austen wrote her, the Pemberley team adapted her, and Joanna brought her to life. Bravo!!

Yes! Exactly! I actually am super happy they're together because it makes everything REAL. You can see the genuine feelings in all the episodes but in this one especially. :D
I wonder what people would do if I started responding to uncomfortable social situations with " * Gasp! * Harriet!" and then running away. Like.... * I'm staring unblinkingly into space because I'm thinking about a thing I read, but really I'm accidentally staring at a random person * Random Person: "Um....can I help you?" Me: * gasp! * Harriet! *runs away* I think this has potential.
*+[Insert Location]* Hahaha!! My two daughters have been rehearsing (for about ten years) a melodramatic scenario very similar to this - in preparation for those moments of acute social awkwardness. One of them looks off in the distance, GASPS and loudly hisses, "FREDERICK! NOOOOOOOOO". They stare at each other in horror, then turn and leave quickly, without explanation. They haven't yet found the right moment to do it for real but it never fails to make me laugh.
LOL, I am having so much fun reading everyone's comments! EA fans are pretty hardcore for the book, given the number of "HE SAID THE THING!" statements I'm seeing.... Jane Austen, you clever minx. Still making us SQUEE after 200 years.....
I started crying when she told herself to be strong, it was killing me inside even though I knew what was going to happen! Aghhh really one of the best versions of the book ever
I also adore how the confession was done in Knightley's office. :) And how Alex caught Emma doing consultations and being so much more mature than he left her. And I love how Alex looked so relieved to know that she wasn't in love with Frank. And how much love and passion was in his eyes as he confessed. And how much he really loves Emma. BUT I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS EPISODE ARGH.
Flowers are romantic. This is the episode with the line that all Emma fans have been waiting for as well as the kiss that is now all over my Tumblr feed. Teary applause for these two. What good sports they've been to keep their pics private and waiting until today to post them. The fact that they are in love IRL doesn't take away from how difficult this episode must have been to film. Breathtakingly beautiful.
I'm still re-watching and still caughting new things like, did you hear how Alex's voice trembled when he asked Emma, if the kiss meant a "yes"? Awwww!!
Having watched pretty much every adaptation of Emma I found (my favourite Austen's heroine), still have to say that Bailey is the best Knightley I've seen so far. And the two of them were amazing here. Already watched it four times, and just commenting while watching the fifth. Just... So great. And the lines... Perfect. Perfect.
All the comments I have been reading on all these episodes, how involved we are and how much we feel for the characters, are a testament not only to the amazing actors and people at Pemberley Digital, but to the amazing talent of Jane Austen and the timeless nature of her work. Even now, her novels still spark debates and people can still relate to the characters she created. I am a lifelong fan, I only wish her life had not been cut so short so she could have written more for us all to enjoy, and that she had gotten the recognition she deserved during her lifetime. PS AMAZING EPISODE. Congrats Joanna and Brent, you played the roles perfectly.
I love that the whole time they are in Alex's office they never look towards the camera. Their whole focus is one each other. It adds to the realism of the situation. His smile when she tells him she had no feeling for Frank was very cute. I also love when she says hit me with it she swings her fist at herself because she feels the information will hurt her physically.
so now that i've watched it a million times and have regained some composure i can't help but comment on the great acting! a lot of times especially in "scenes" like this it can feel a lot more staged due to the web series format but they did such a great job! they're voices stand out to me, i don't know what it is but they both convey so much emotion through their voices it's absolutely not a problem that we don't get to see most of they're faces as they're looking at each other and we only have the camera angle from the desk. UGH i just lov eit so much
God the way Alex looks at Emma through the whole series makes my heart melt. But so much more in this ep. He can't keep his eyes off her and she can't keep hers off him. This episode was just so perfect!
*Gets to the hug. Rewinds.* *Gets to the hand rub. Rewinds.* *Gets to Alex and cliches. Rewinds* I've seriously watched the first minute or so like seven times because I. Keep. Rewinding. BECAUSE MY EMOTIONS CAN'T HANDLE THIS! 1. The scrunch of his eyes when he protests. 2. The little tiny smile he can't help spread on his face. 3. The fumbles as Alex tries to disguise how utterly ecstatic he is with the Frank news. 4. THE BANTER. REFERENCES TO FRANK AND POMADE! AUGH RIGHT IN THE FEELZ CENTER OF MY FANGIRL SOUL! Edit: it has been ten minutes and I can't get past the flowers.
Atta girl, Emma. My you've grown! Oh my gosh that was emotionally exhausting. I was screaming and laughing and crying all at the same time. And I'm so glad to have the sorrow wiped off of Alex's face! And the quotes! They're all there! "Time will heal the wounds!" "I will listen to you as your friend." "If I loved you less I might be able to talk about it more!" Eight minutes well spent. Twice.
EMMA WHY WERE YOU SO NAIVE FOR SO LONG????? That was beautiful and adorable and I just want another 70 episodes of Emma & Alex being adorably in love with each other please.
I've watched this about 20 times so far and my FAVORITE PART is when Knightley starts smiling when he hears how Emma doesn't like Frank. HE'S SO HAPPY AND IT'S SO ADORABLE
1. The freaking banter after the first kiss. I love their dynamic. Gah. So cute. 2. The way Emma was so confused when he asked her what she thought he was going to say. "Before? What is before? There was a time before we got together? DOES NOT COMPUTE"
At the start of the series, I hated Emma, but she's developed so much over the course of the series, and I love it. And I love Emma and Alex's relationship so much (much more than Lizzie and Darcy). This episode made me cry. Kudos.
Caroline Prince I have to agree. Jane Austen said she meant to create a character only she would like. Emma has been that way for me in the book and in this series. It was hard to like her because she's not the relatable, brave, steadfast heroine. But if there's anything this story taught me, it's that you have to give people a chance to grow and learn, and you may just be surprised at how much you already adore them.
+Lectures de Rêveuse Have you seen any of the beautiful non Pemberly Dig webseries? my two other favorites- In Earnest is complete, and Green Gables Fables is nearing the end of Season 2. :)
SwissAdelina I've watched "Green Gables Fables" in entire and Oh My God Gilbert and Anne are so cute! Hope they will do one or two videos more before ending the serie (I neeeeeed more!) I haven't watched "in Earnest" yet, I have to say that I don't understand a lot what's happening :P! Do you know more romantic web series I could watch? Have you seen "Kissing in the Rain"? If not you should! It's wonderful!!!
Sometimes, when I feel really lonely, I come back to this. I come back to my friends finding each other in love. And for a few days, I am happy and hopeful that things will work out.
This was the episode I've been waiting for since the beginning ! I literally squealed like 14 times watching it, so much so that my mom walks, looks at me all flabbergasted, then says, "Oh right, it's Thursday.. So what did they finally hook up ?" No ! They did not "hook up", they expressed their love ! 😍
There are so many things I loved about this episode. The inclusion of "if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more", The hug at the beginning, Alex's face when Emma remembered about Harriet (it was a very cute startled face) ALEX BRINGING EMMA FLOWERS and that KISS! Also, Emma sounded so panicked when Alex got up to get the flowers and Ugh this episode was just perfection. Cue the many replays.
Of course I'm squeeing over the kiss like everyone else, but the thing I loved most about this episode is how Emma has grown as a person. It made me want to cry how willing she was to put someone else's feelings before her own. It was so selfless of her and I love seeing how she has changed. It gives a good message :) This development is wonderful
he does that little eyebrow raise at the end there. i've noticed he does that when emma surprises him with something. ugh. cutiedorks. Now, time to watch this episode so many times i have it memorized like the 98th episode of LBD. :)
Also- when she says "Alex's happiness matters most" and his comment of "Is that what you want?" to me really show how much they love each other. They are both so concerned about the other's happiness that they are willing to do whatever it takes. UGH. CUTIEDORKS. I seriously can't stop watching this.
Emma and Knightley are my all time favorite Austen couple! Darcy and Lizzie are great (and Pride and Prejudice is my favorite story between the two), but watching Brent and Joanna's portrayal of this couple has been my favorite thing about any Pemberly Digital adaption thus far! Great job, guys, this episode was almost to good to watch!!
*crying and screaming throughout* I'm not ready, but I can't put it off. YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! THE FLOWERS!!!!!! THE LINE!!!!!!!!!!! THE KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On every zoom meeting when I'm on mute but I'm wanting to show I'm attentive I smile or nod, and now I've realised who I remind myself of and where I probably get that from... Thanks Ana 😅
The first time I ever teared up while directing was for this episode. Thanks everyone for watching.
Thank YOU for this Bernie!!!
I teared up too!
Thank you for making my birthday awesome with this episode!
Thanks for making me cry too, Bernie. I look forward to more Austen adaptations...you pay such amazing homage to Jane!
I cried too.,,what a fabulous adaption...you guys are amazing!
I've always loved Knightley and Emma more than Darcy and Elizabeth. You look at Lizzie and Darcy and think, "Wow, those are two really awesome people. I took a screenshot of your comment. Beautifully said!
@@Missmethinksalot1 I don't think I've ever been so flattered!
Such a profound insight!
girl you basically took the words out of my mouth. Darcy and Lizzie are great, but they don't give me the feels the way Emma and Knightley do!
Every time Emma starts talking about being friends and Alex's face falls, I always picture Darcy watching and nodding and saying "yeah, I feel your pain man."
+MimaShar JAJAJAJJAJAJ That is so funny
+MimaShar *Zuko voice* "That's rough, buddy."
Your comment wins the internet!!!!!
Haha, thanks!
+MimaShar you killed me ahahah
Emma: "But flowers are romantic"
me, absolutely sobbing: FLOWERS *ARE* ROMANTIC
"Emma Woodhouse, I don't have the words to tell you how in love with you I am. Maybe if I loved you less I could talk about it more. " *Sobbing*
If I loved this episode less, I could talk about it more.
...as opposed to these high-pitched whining noises my throat keeps making.

Shout out to Jane Austen for the most beautiful lines in romance!
If there's ONE thing this entire show taught us it's that: "Flowers are romantic!" Yes Emma, lesson learned.

I'm a receptionist, and don't have much to do. So I put in one head phone and watch/listen.
I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP. Anyone else?
My favourite comment so far.
Lol! Yes me too! Such adorableness!
They used "if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more" *fangirling to the extreme*
Right!? I was so afraid they were going to cut that line. It was PERFECT!
They kind of used it. I mean "Maybe if I loved you less, I could talk about it more." Is pretty much the same thing, but the "might be able to" should have been there.
@@elizabethhurd7121it’s only a few words cut, and the version they used works perfectly
"But if you'll let me, I will spend every day trying to make you happy."
Now that sounds almost like a proposal... Not quite, but almost. :)
Well, this is the man who, in real life, bought Joanna flowers and made her dinner and then formally asked her to be his girlfriend. Who does that? ALEX KNIGHTLEY, APPARENTLY. :D
Rachel Merrill oh jesus.
They were taking lines from the book. In the book he does propose :)
mcflyloveme I know, right?
Rachel Merrill Brent is Alex IRL, apparently. Joanna, you lucky duck.
The fact that Alex makes Emma laugh while simultaneously looking at her like she's the most precious woman in the world is why I think #Knighthouse is so much more romantic than Dizzie.

I died at that part. Emma definitely learned her lesson from the Elton fiasco and will never again assume yogurt is more romantic than flowers.

I just LOVE how Pemberley Digital girls are the ones to initiate the kiss. YOU GO, GIRLS!
He said it! He said the line! Gah. These two are perfect. Seriously Emma was once again acted to perfection.
UGH i just lov eit so much
BAH, I was TERRIFIED Harriet would walk in on them!
OMG right?! I seriously was worried that was gonna happen. O.o I could picture that happening too... and if it did... awkward turtle...
Me too! I was like oh gosh then I remebered she wasn't at work. Thank goodness. But hopefully when she finds out she goes back to b mart ;)
Me too!
Me too! We all thought about it! I'm scared about what's going to happen next with Harriet... It'll hurt.
Me too! I was so happy but then at the end when they were kissing for a long time I was so stressed out, I was sure she was going to come in on them.
God the way Alex looks at Emma through the whole series makes my heart melt. But so much more in this ep. He can't keep his eyes off her and she can't keep hers off him. This episode was just so perfect!
*Gets to the hug. Rewinds.*
*Gets to the hand rub. Rewinds.*
*Gets to Alex and cliches. Rewinds*
I've seriously watched the first minute or so like seven times because I. Keep.
Six years later and his voice when he says “I was just makin’ sure...” still kills me.
Atta girl, Emma. My you've grown!
Oh my gosh that was emotionally exhausting. I was screaming and laughing and crying all at the same time. And I'm so glad to have the sorrow wiped off of Alex's face!
And the quotes! They're all there!
"Time will heal the wounds!"
"I will listen to you as your friend."
"If I loved you less I might be able to talk about it more!"
Eight minutes well spent. Twice.
THE FEELS, OH THE FEELS.
Ive had an awful week, this has made everything better.
Me too! *hugs*
starsblazing And right back to you! **hugs the laptop **
Lorena Piliado this entire reaction chain just makes my life better. :)
This week has been weirdly stressful. Very happy to see this unfold this week :)
CAN THIS DAY GET BETTER? Got into Uni and now this, eeep!
it is the best ever!!! And congrat!!:D
Thank you!! Woo!!
^^ the FEELINGS!!!!!!:))
I'm flailing for many reasons today!
oh congratulations!!! :3
THE HEARTSTRINGS OF MY COLD HEART ARE BEING PULLED.
totally not watching on repeat...why would I doing that?
EMMA WHY WERE YOU SO NAIVE FOR SO LONG????? That was beautiful and adorable and I just want another 70 episodes of Emma & Alex being adorably in love with each other please.
THEY USED THE IF I LOVED YOU LESS LINE THIS IS SO PERFECT OMG DYINGGGGGG
I'M LITERALLY JUST ROLLING ON THE FLOOR CRYING I WAITED ALL DAY FOR THIS AND IT'S FREAKIN WORTH IT MAN
I've watched this about 20 times so far and my FAVORITE PART is when Knightley starts smiling when he hears how Emma doesn't like Frank. HE'S SO HAPPY AND IT'S SO ADORABLE
I love how frank literally prances back into their lives next episode
1. The freaking banter after the first kiss. I love their dynamic. Gah. So cute.
2. The way Emma was so confused when he asked her what she thought he was going to say. "Before? What is before? There was a time before we got together? DOES NOT COMPUTE"
How many times have we re-watched this ep already?
i've watched it 2 times (will probably watch a billion more times though!) but the second was kinda blurry thanks to happy teary eyes!
I lost count!!!
Just the three times, but it's only been half an hour. By the end of the day, that number will be significantly higher.
About ten times.
No joke
At the start of the series, I hated Emma, but she's developed so much over the course of the series, and I love it. And I love Emma and Alex's relationship so much (much more than Lizzie and Darcy). This episode made me cry. Kudos.
Which is probably what Jane Austen herself intended. So bravo, PD and JA succeeded :)
Ella Mae Masamayor that is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard
Ariel Schwartz Aww thanks :)
THERE ARE TEARS OF SO MUCH JOY
I love the way he instantly wraps his arms around her when she hugs him, so sweet...
Anyone notice that when they get emotional their voices both go all ragged? It's heartbreaking and adorable and UGH
Rewatching because I just miss these characters SO much.
+Camy Vancower Hope they'll do something similar soon! Pleeeease can someone here me?
+Lectures de Rêveuse
Have you seen any of the beautiful non Pemberly Dig webseries?
my two other favorites- In Earnest is complete, and Green Gables Fables is nearing the end of Season 2. :)
+SwissAdelina no I haven't heard about those! Thank you! I'll watch them 😊
+Lectures de Rêveuse Ohh! I'm excited for you then! Enjoy!
I do the same...
"I was just making sure." Heart. Melted.
I love those little nods Alex gives when Emma says "Flowers are romantic! "
THE FACT THAT THEIR WORDS MATCHED THE BOOK AND THE CONFUSION AND JUST EVERYTHING!! It was sooo perfect.
Tears. All of them. Everywhere. SO HAPPY. Brent and Joanna, you were GOLD. *dreamy sigh*
I waited 70 episodes for this... So worth the wait.
I'm so glad they didn't put this into 2 videos. Because I might have done some damage to… well, someone or something.
Looking at you, Lizzie Bennet...
he does that little eyebrow raise at the end there. i've noticed he does that when emma surprises him with something.
ugh.
OMG I AM SO HAPPY I HAVE BEEN WAITING 70 EPISODES FOR THIS
We all have and finally! I think we all died because of the feels
Yes definitely! I had to keep replaying it
"Maybe I'll steal his pomade." SNARKY, SNARKY KNIGHTLEY.
I think we all know what we need to do now.
Re-watch the entire series.
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO FASTFORWARDED A BIT? A LITTTTTLE BIT?????? SCREAMING RIGHT NOW.
Ohhhh I totally did. Just to see flowers then I went back and watched it all with a brief pause for squealing.
Me too!!! :D
Kate Sitarski FIVE PAUSES.
That desperate grab when she hugs him! And how quickly he snaps his arms around her. SO PERFECT!!
On every zoom meeting when I'm on mute but I'm wanting to show I'm attentive I smile or nod, and now I've realised who I remind myself of and where I probably get that from... Thanks Ana 😅
So after watching for the 6000th time, I have to say I love that little smirk on Alex's face when Emma says, "Very Emma approved."
IT THOUGHT YOU WERE CHINESE
I felt like watching that episode and tis one in a loop for about 2 hours!
"...I don't have the words to tell you how in love with you I am. Maybe if I loved you less, I could talk about it more." My heart just melted!!!
Im mildly mesmerised by how nice the bouquet is.
I started crying near the end, I love how they did this episode. Great interpretation of the book.
