Thank you so much. I did a snake piece earlier and I just couldn't get the scales right, so I omitted the scale on him. But if I had known this genius technique, my snek would have had scales. This will make drawing reptiles so much easier. It may also work for feathers if you add detail. I will definitely be using this in the future
Thank you so much! I decided to try drawing snakes today because I was always afraid of drawing them super bad cuz of the intricate scale patterns, but my scales turned out beautiful!
I had a drawing on hold for freaking months and I really liked it but dreaded working on it because I couldn't do the snake scales for the life of me. You saved my life. Or at least that poor piece of art.
This is great. I have a hard time drawing in the rounded ends so I still get those nice diagonals. Sometimes it ends up looking like a mess and I start over.
The thing is with this sort of work you get to repeat it over and over and over and over and... well you get the idea, after a few reptile drawings you get used to it.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! I knew there had to be a better way then drawing them one by one! I didn't think there would be an actual method that would work! I'm trying to finish a hognose drawing and they do have very similar scales! Yay!!! I'm so happy I might be able to finish my drawing now! I seriously was considering giving up!
Smick, sort means well done or smooth. Aussies use the word all the time, but I didn't know other English speaking countries didn't. Maybe it has devolved from the word slick.
What should I do when I'm coloring it, though? Right now I'm working on a drawing for my art class . It's an albino hognose, and the space between the scales is really light. If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.
what a hack…. i mean like a life hack, it’s going to simplify scale drawing for me by 90% will help me keep ratio as well as dimensions…. top work…. learning to draw again and these tips and tricks really help to progress quickly and simplify the drawing process… now i just need to learn how to draw bodies, heads, eyes and mouths 😂 but seriously using this to try to finish a dragon….. wish me luck 🍀
@@SnakeArtist it really did and does… but i will say that you make this look easy…. i have a lot of fine tuning to do… so am looking forward to discovering your channel! thanks a lot…. there is something soothing in drawing scales…. all the best and stay safe 👋

Great video, can someone tell me what 'smick' means? It's about 1:44-148 in the video.
