    Very nice, it may be interesting for you to see Wanomichi no kata which is 23 movements kata. Starts from 2:33 in this video ua-cam.com/video/Neo6HEFM0Nw/v-deo.html

      Thank you for sharing. Looks interesting. Still got a lot in the pipeline, just need to get round to filming. One in particular is the partner practice for the 19 Jo kata I put together for training the opposite side.

    The number 9 movement has to be a tenkan, not an step forward. Nice job!

      Thanks. With regards to the 9th movement, take a look at the video ua-cam.com/video/7jVutwJ2uAQ/v-deo.html.
      Generally speaking the kata it is performed like you said to start and finish in the same position because of limited space in the dojo. In the Kumijo it was sometimes practiced stepping back for safety reasons. However if applied it makes more sense attacking stepping forward otherwise there is no need for your partner to step back as they will not be under pressure. That's the way we do it anyway. Everyone will have their own opinion :)

      @@AlexanderGent The 9 movement it's not properly an attack but it's made for creating space because uchi jo is already in a right Maai for striking. This is what I learned from a student of Saito Sensei.
      Check this video of Saito Sensei at min 4:40

      Thanks for sharing the links. I am aware of the other way. I have tried both and stepping forward was how I was taught. Personally, I prefer the more attacking variation, however appreciate not everyone sees it that way.

      Personal choice, I prefer to stay stick to the tradition. Have a nice day.

    Why don't you do it with to attackers, as it was made for? You show it artificially with one attacker, and therefore only cleaning the air behind your back. ;)

      It's only 7 and 8 which is two strikes, not really worth getting another person just for that.

      @@AlexanderGent Hi, I don't want to offend you in any way. I learned this Kata is for 3 people, not for 2. You can do it with 1, or alone, to make it easier, but didnt you ever ask yourself, why someone (or really even O-Sensei) made such a strange Kata, were you do 2 strikes which, in your own words, are not really "worth"?

    • @AlexanderGent
      @AlexanderGent  3 роки тому +2

      Don't worry Alex, I'm not offended :)
      From my understand O'Sensei put together the Kata and then Saito Sensei created the "Anti Kata" / Kumijo. There are several variations and his son also changed some parts. We have some videos of the Kumijo broken down - might be worth checking out.
      In my opinion the Kata is teaching certain principles. The two strikes are odd, however don't really take away the information being taught (turning and striking etc). Maybe they are put there to reduce the amount of forward steps? When performing the kata is should start and finish in the same place but thats because of performing demos and saving space in the dojo. In application you can see it takes up far more room. These are just my thoughts though and not a definitive answer. If you watch my sparring analysis video I explain the application of some moves in there.
      Hope that helps!

      @@alex11174 Do you have any videos of of the 31 jo kata being done against multiple attackers? I have never been able to find any and would love to see it.
