    Holy shit this is the exact kind of review I wanted to see. You actually shot basically the entirety of the video using the two subject cameras, which sadly most reviewers don't do. They use their personal best cameras (whatever they may be) and splice in a couple clips using the subject camera. The best way to give someone a good idea of how the cameras perform is more examples, and you gave us plenty. Thanks.

    Fantastic Review. Do a few of these. A6600 VS A7III Would get a lot of views. Anyone considering the A6600 has to at least think about the A7III as an up grade and someone that is looking at the A7III will look at the A6600 just to make sure they are not over buying for there needs. If I were a run and gun vlogger, I'd get the a6400 + a gimbal. The crane M2 would be the best in price and perrformance. Put a sigma 16mm f1.4 in there and you are set. The IBIS of the a6500 and a6600 is a joke. Even with the 10-18 OSS it does not stabilize well. So, why not just buy a gimbal with the a6400 + a lens? Even the kit lens would be a good starting vlogging lens at 16mm.
    As for the other points, you are correct. The best of the bunch is the a7-3 + 28-75 f2.8 tamron. Best for the cost and performance. The A7R-3 is ok if you really need the pixel count. If you don't there is the A7-3 and the a6400. Even the a6100 will be good vlogging camera, though you lose the profiles for video there. So, the best is the a6400.

    Got the cameras right on B-Roll; a7Riii definitely showed wider field of view, which was more pleasing on the water fall, etc. Autofocus obviously goes to the a6400, which we know Sony gave the newest and best (why don't they update firmware for the a7Riii??). Sill, while the focus is slower on the a7Riii, its a nice gentle pull and doesn't seem objectionable to me.

    In comparing these cameras, naturally the most important thing is the huge difference in price. The second thing is much more expensive lenses for A7R. And here the most important question is building set with A6400 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 / Sony 70-350mm / Sony 18-105mm (or instead of Sigma 16mm and Sony 18-105mm one lens Tamron 17-70 2.8). A similar kit for the A7R (and with A7R) will already be roughly twice as expensive. Here I come to the point A6400 is a great camera for the price :)
    Am I thinking right? :)

    It would be very interesting if you used the exact same lenses in a7riii apsc mode. There are a couple of reviewers saying a7riii and a7iii give sharper images, despite using lenses designed for the apsc bodies . Perhaps in a future video. Thanks mate

    Thanks for the comparison and trying to match up for apples to apples. It's impossible to do that but you came very close. From a non-pro perspective I thought both cameras failed to give decent stabilization in your video tests regardless of IBIS, OIS, or IBIS+OIS. When I look at it from that viewpoint one needs a hand held gimble to get the best out of these cameras. On tracking the a6400 wins that test but you're comparing apples and oranges on the two cameras as the a6400 has the newer algorithm. For framing the video or picture I like the A7RIII for providing a pleasing depth of field to the subject. From that standpoint it was easy to pick the which was camera a and camera b. Both are very nice cameras but the current comparison would be a6400 vs A7III, Again I think they both have their strengths and are fine cameras.

  • @criscokidd1

    Enjoyed your presentation Kyle. Very informative. I use two Sony cameras to shoot video of live bands. I have a a6000 that I use with a Sigma 16mm for a semi wide angle shot. I am interested in bringing it up a step with the a6400, but no one keeps them in stock. I would normally have any of those cameras on tripods. I favour the idea that the a6400 does not shut down after 20 minutes like the a6000 does, but i have a few batteries now so interchanging them is not a problem. The a6000 takes good still pictures. Don't think I need ICS though that would be nice. I know the a6500 has it but reviews tend to lean to a6400 for the power features as mentioned. Quick focus is another great feature since musicians tend to move around. P.S. my stepdaughters are Pugliese.

    I’m a Nikon fanatic using full and crop DSLRs. The only difference I see is the price point - not what they’re capable of. Awhile back I acquired a slightly used a6300 at a bargain from a Sony fanatic who upgraded to a6500. It’s my neck slung test camera I use to dry run photo shoots. I use my Nikon DSLRs for the final shoot.
    By the way, how can you compare one model to another that cost more than three times it’s value? It would have been very informative if you tested and compared the current a6xxx models from their price point difference, features, torture test results, etc.

I would love to hear your insights on which you think is the better buy for a second camera or to be used the same time as a7iii at weddings/events. I love the resolution on the a7riii and the price right now used can be hand for under $2k which is a steal. Then there is the a6400 which gives a lot of bang also for the price. Low light is not as good though. Also another a7iii is in the running but for an extra $400 now a days you can get the a7riii. That’s insane. Thanks for the feedback.

    • @KylePugliese
      @KylePugliese 5 років тому +2

      Hi Richie, thats a tough call, but I'd go with the a6400 but go with full frame glass if you ever see yourself upgrading. The A7 II is probably a bit better in low light given that it's full frame, but the focus on the a6400 will be much better. The a7 II has in body stabilization, so it also comes down to your equipment. If you are using a monopod or gimbal then the a6400 will be just fine. If you want to handhold and do video I'd push you more toward the A7 II for the in body stabilization.
      If I had to pick I'd say A6400 with 16-70 mm F4 ZA OSS. That gives you some stabilization, ability to upgrade to a full frame camera eventually, and some great focus/processing power. The downside is it wont be great in low light which could be problematic in some wedding scenarios. Another lens would be the 16-35 f4 OSS, a bit more expensive though. I wouldn't recommend using the A6400 without stabilized glass for video. Even the stabilized glass makes marginal difference but it helps with the jitter a bit.

    The review is very good, but the real difference in quality is in the result of megapixels in photography and the quality of the logarithmic in slog 2 & 3

    I want to buy the A7iii or the Alpha 6600, but I can't make up my mind.
    Is focus tracking really such a big advantage? The camera should mainly be used as a family camera. It is important to me that eye AF works.
    The Sony Alpha 6300 was often not bright enough for me (sigma prime numbers), so I think of the Alpha 7iii

    There was no point in the "reveal" in the beginning, as you already showed your test rig with the placement of each camera. ;) Also, even without that, that shallower depth of field of the A7 III was pretty apprent on the right.

    That was a great comparison. What I learnt is that 1080p in a6400 is not as good as it should be. It's way too soft and 4k comes with a crop. I think you have rightly recommended A7-3. Nice video.

      Thanks. Agreed on the 1080 being soft on the a6400

    GReat review. What would you recommend for talking head in a studio?

    • @KylePugliese
      @KylePugliese 2 роки тому +1

      For that type of content you really don’t need to worry much about autofocus and you have controlled lighting so the a6400 would do extremely well

    Will a gimbal help with the stabilization of both cameras?

    Amazing review! Just what I needed to hear from both bodies, I guess I'll go with the 6400 and save for a 10-18mm lens to get a more wide angle considering the crop it has

    • @landmine8206
      @landmine8206 4 роки тому +1

      It'll be too wide even with the crop sensor I've got 16mm sigma and its still too wide!

      @@landmine8206 oh I never thought of that, will try to get a 30 then. I currently have the 50mm but considering the crop, it makes it feel like an 85mm
