I don't comment too often on UA-cam, however this song has become very important to me. This song has helped me grieve the recent loss of my son and the lyrics have touched me in a way no lyrics ever have before. I have struggled releasing my emotions but this song has me in tears every time I hear it. Thank you Ben.
I for some reason felt the need to reach out and just tell you how sorry I am to hear of your sons passing. I wish you an endless amount of strength through these dark times and I know how relieving it is, if that's the right word, to find something such as a song that helps put into words how you are feeling, and helps give you the power to move forward in a sense. My condolences to you an your family, again. God bless.
I just realized when he plays the guitar I can actually hear the unstill of the ocean and the constant rumbling of the waves and currents. How is it even possible to portray the ocean and create that feeling through music as if it were a painting?
watching someone fingerpick that smoothly always make me want to play, then i play and get frustrated and the kids have to stay with the grandparents for the night...
Smoothest finger picking ever from Ben Howard (possibly from anyone) and by far the best version IFWWW. You can see the pain in his face, and hear it in his voice. He sings it slightly faster than the rest of his performances, like he is just trying to get through the song before he breaks. Not to mention the mike making his voice echo slightly to make it even more haunting. Best singer songwriter of this generation, and by the time he is done probably any generation! The most complete musician in decades (guitar, vocals, songwriting, emotional inspiration). He just makes you feel!
+Joseph Crowley Tallest Man on Earth beats him on fingerpicking. Though Ben has his own style that's out of this world. I suggest listening to Field of Birds by Tallest Man on Earth live on KEXP. Or Revelation Blues live on pitchfork.
+Joseph Crowley If we are speaking about complete artist I put Ben Howard and Birdy in the same level (even if it is not the same style of music) because she has a magnificent voice, can play piano and guitar, write her own songs (with a lot of meaning such as Ben) and put also a lot of emotion in her songs.
She is unique in her own style as Ben is in his own. I never include "Skinny love" as her song, at least not this song. For example I think that her cover of "The a team" is much better than Ed Sheeran... Her covers are very good, but I was talking about her songs (written by her) such as "Without a word" (she was 15 years old), "Words as weapons", "Not about angels" etc. Her second album is only songs written by her, as her third album that will be out in march.
Dear Ben, I know this message will not reach you, or your management team, but if in the 0000.1% chance it does, I beg you play this version live at your upcoming IFWWW tour. Been one of my favourite tracks of yours single it’s release 10 years back and to hear it live would a complete blessing. Thanks for being the greatest musician to ever live. All the best.
Oh hey, I wasn't listening I was watching Syria Blinded by the sunshine strip You, you were in the kitchen Oh your mind was marked and wounded with the wounders whip And that's how summer passed oh your, Great divide and range of green green grass Oh, maybe it was peace at last, who knew Hello love, my invincible friend Hello love, the thistle and the burr Hello love, for you I have so many words But I, I forget where we were Oh hey, I wasn't listening, I was stung by all of us The blind leading up the wall And as per usual, You were skipping and laughing eyes at the bedroom door Don't take it so seriously, no Only time is ours The rest we'll just wait and see Maybe you're right, babe, maybe Oh no, and that's how summer passed Oh your, great divide And range of green green grass Oh, maybe I hold on fast, to you Hello love, my invincible friend Hello love, the thistle and the burr Hello love, for you I have so many words But I, I forget where we were I, I forget where we were I forget where we were I forget where we were, Oh no, and that's how summer passed Oh your, great divide And range of green green grass Oh, maybe it was peace at last, who knew
Music is one of those things that can really awaken emotions in a way that nothing else can. And Ben Howard's music strums the chords of my emotions. I am so happy to live in the same time, i missed Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, but I haven't missed you!
Could you help me out, what do you think he means by “sunshine stream”? I figure it has something to do with the bright explosions from the bombs. Sorry that a country so important to you is right now, basically in ruins. Blessings.
I want to feast on his voice, the way you relish the taste of wine, savoring it in slow, contemplative sips, which stir you and compel you. Only, I don't know what I'm compelled towards... I'm left craving more.
it helps me think clearly, reminding me of my pain an mellows me out so I care less about the past an less about my mistakes. every one of your songs lifts my moral. As a soldier, I couldn't ask for more, so thanks.
I'm not sure about anyone else, but I love how he is still still into the pure acoustic stuff. I am so pleased there is an 'acoustic chapter' on the album with In Dreams and She Treats Me Well. I almost prefer this version of I Forget Where We Were too. :)
Its beautiful Ben. You touch my heart ....everytime, over and over again through your voice, your words wich come together in your music. My husband name is Ben, and he is still very ill by a stroke, he had on October 10 this year. I pray we still have some good days together. Thank you for your beautiful gifts, that is your powerful music. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a harrowing and beautiful gift of a voice he has. His artistry, both with the guitar and vocally, are truly otherwordly, and there is no one else really like him that I know of.
I love Ben so much because he's not one of those artists who change their music genre or experiment with new styles of music (Ed Sheeran for example) He sort of keeps his music that soft, grainy, acoustic music. He is so unique.
Ben, you deliver every single word with so much intensity and raw emotion. Your strumming is always in absolute harmony with your voice. Your music is easily the greatest sound that has ever reached my ears. Thank you for filling my soul with such perfection :)

Heartbreaking really. Found this song at some of the hardest times in my life. Lost my mother from cancer and a relationship that ended. The song and production give me a strange sense of comfort yet sadness.
I was wondering why I haven't heard anything from him in a while but like always the music is perfect. One of my few favorite artists. Is he still with the same band ? I hope so, I love the female in there.
yes India who plays with him is very talented herself! I agree he is one artist that i have never found a song that I DON'T like. He is such a talent!!
I can completely to that comment by Jonathon Davies. So sorry to hear about your loss. I discovered Ben after the loss of my fiance to cancer. If it wasn't for his music I don't know where or how I'd feel now. Whenever I'm feeling down I always turn Ben on. Makes me feel better every time. Its beautiful and healing. And I'm grateful. Thank you Ben Howard.

I lost my nan last year and I thought that was hard but I'd think losing a child is probably the hardest. I wish you luck, hope you can find peace.
I hope all is well man.
Jonathan Davies beautiful what pure art does huh? embrace it! I believe songs find you for a reason, this isn't the exception.
Always feel like I go to a different place mentally when listening to his songs. One hell of an artist.
I have to agree; its so true.
I can do nothing but to agree
Exactly!!!
so true! You feel his energy and emotions so strongly.
Bullshit Man
2024, right back to where I always find myself. This great song
I'm living in the same time that Ben Howard is, and this is good, really, really good! :D
best comment ever
Listen carefully, with love in your heart and you will hear the silence from where this music comes
A slience of three parts..
You might also hear the sea ;)
💗
Beautifully articulated. You have gave this song whole new meaning to me after years of listening

Yeah, it sounds like flowing water.
It's okay. I understand

You just have to really enjoy doing it and consistently challenge yourself
In 2023, this is my most-played video on UA-cam. An incredible version of IFWWW.
I forget where I am when I listen to this
Love the "hello love" part so much better in this version
I like the entire song more this way
I’ve been listening to your music since I was about 12 and I’m nearly 24 now. Bens music has giving me guidance in this crazy world we live in💙

It's like a completely new song that is somehow familiar. I love his music, he is a musician of the highest and rarest quality.

@@thorstenpifko2389 lol people try so hard to ignore the pain in the world. So centric in ourselves that we can't even hear Syria in a song.
I really appreciate people like you who post lyrics for people like me 😁🤗❤️

forever in love with Ben Howard's music, can't wait for future material.
Jordyn Shields new album on the way, a few singles released already!
If heaven had a soundtrack, this would be playing on loop.

Beautiful as always
I love how he changes it up at 2:47. Really beautiful
I don't think I've ever heard a musician with such a talent, and such a beautiful soul.
It Just comes so natural for him Beautiful
the voice of a man that has been to the heights of love then back to the bottom
Takes you to a parallel universe.. probably the one inside your head. Soul soothing.
What a day, what a life, what beautiful music, what a man!! How lucky we are, he is back, finally!
you're a bad person - making me wait this long for another masterpiece, even though it is so worth it
His new album is coming out in a couple of days!
It’s almost ten years of this record that changed my life in an unimaginable way.
I always come back to this version of the song over the studio version. Absolutely sublime.
Sometimes I really can't get over how much I would love if he was the father of my children...
Why does have to be so stinking dreamy?
Covid19 lockdown got me here and I'm content!! So Soothing ♥️
No auto tune garbage. You have to appreciate real music and the emotion you feel
I forget,sometimes I don't,like a midnight summers dream, empathy
He is even more perfect live, if that's even possible.
I want to feast on his voice, the way you relish the taste of wine, savoring it in slow, contemplative sips, which stir you and compel you. Only, I don't know what I'm compelled towards... I'm left craving more.
listening to this song def don't make me forget where we were and where we are right now..
