The Mob were influenced by Raider Klan a TONNNNN, but to say they bit everything off sgp like a lot of people say just isn’t true. Rocky had peso and purple swag before he even knew about SGP, and his fashion mostly came from Bari. SGP and Raider Klan deserve a ton of respect and were hella influential but the Mob and Rocky both had their own styles (both musically and fashion) pretty well fleshed out prior to meeting SGP.

Purrp did not "steal" from the Egyptians or the skaters. There is a difference between stealing / appropriating something, and purposely using well known imagery to invoke something. Songs like 'Legend of the East Pyramyds' and 'Osiris of the East' makes it pretty clear that this is what Purrp is doing. That's not comparable to taking your friend's style and then claiming you took no inspiration whatsoever.

I don't quite agree with your overall statement that SGP screwed his own career because of his personality. Yeah, he's obviously unstable and those who suffer from it can criticize him for that, but do you realize that we talk about two VERY different things ? Lots of artists are assholes, and they still make good art. Jules Verne was anti-Semite and Michael Jackson was a pedophile. So ? I think that ethical principles and artistic pertinence don't have sh*t to do with each other. Can't we judge the artist for the quality of his work ?
Yes, it's kind of strange to analyze it like this but I feel like Purrp's work is way more intellectual that it seems. He managed to capture the tension and violence of our modern world and expressed it with lo-fi psychedelic, yet quiet atmospheres, which underline the feeling of sordidness. You can't even say that it's just a beat with a rapper that kicks it, because his voice is often flooded by his own instrumentation (just like James Ferraro type of work, and I see a lot of similarities between the twos). That's like avant-garde hip-hop. He always changed his flows, his musical influences (seriously, some of his songs are like lo-fi house) and I see him as a punk artist, who always got out of his confort zone. Asap Mobb is great too, but I feel like they aren't nearly as original as SGP. For instance, I think that Lil B has got that kind of originality. I ain't no groupie, I decided to give my point of view because :
1 - As an artist, his work really influence me,
2 - I suffered a lot from an artist with whom I worked and was VERY unstable. While we worked together, he did everything he could to destroy me, and I finally kicked his ass off. But at the end of the day, I still feel like he's a great artist, with what seems to be a mental illness.
According to me, we have to separate those two things. In France, we call that "intellectual gymnastique". Maybe there's an equivalent term in English.

Ok I agree that pvrrp is unstable and crazy but sgp is genuinely one of the most important characters in rap period his production and overall sound inspired the underground SoundCloud rap scene unlike any other artist so it’s just annoying to see that part of his art basically dismissed in this video
