I do apologize for any mistakes in the video, I tried to use a large enough variety of sources to gain information on the car and surrounding events but as you have pointed out mistakes do get into the video. Thank you for commenting.
I live in New Zealand, and during the mid to late 1970's, I worked as a car groomer for a company specializing in the grooming of New and Used cars, a lot of which were for dealers. Because of this, I was lucky enough to collect from Tappenden Motors in Takapuna Auckland, a road going Torana "A9X"? or at least what the A9X was based on, in the form of a Torana SS Coup, in Orange and Black, and Powered by the 308 V8, with a 3 Stage Auto Box, likely a Tri Matic, behind it? I think I have seen another two or three of these "A9X" Coupes here in New Zealand in the close to 40 years since I was lucky enough to drive the one I did, as they are incredibly rare here?
They could of kept racing the A9X in 1980, But if they did they would of had to add weight to the car due to CAMS new regulations, Making the Commodore more competitive, Which were basically the A9X running gear in the Commodore. It was the same thing with the hardtop Falcons moving over to the XD Falcon.
Not a bad review of the Torana A9X the road going car was not a Weapon like the race car bog stock 308 around 150kw the main difference was four wheel disc brakes and a different floor pan same as the UC Torana. Over the 3 years the A9X raced the Australian Touring cars series the difference was MHDT and Peter Brock a very well run and funded Team with a Great Driver.
Since I can't reach out to you privately, I'll put a comment here for your edification. Peter Brock was not racing care number "five". He was racing "Oh Five" or "Zero Five" but more accurately, represented the decimal number 0.05 (zero point zero five). It is petty to bring it up, but an important detail. Brocky's support of the legal blood alcohol limit reduction from 0.08 to 0.05 was probably to single biggest factor of the success of the propaganda campaign by various state governments. Brocky was seen as a "Man's man" and if he was behind reducing this limit for "safety", then men all over Australia begrudgingly fell into line generally speaking. Remember, this was a time when it was a badge of honour to make it home with "a few under the belt". So when referring to Brocky's car, remember it is "Oh Five" or "Zero Five". Overall, you could tidy up your imaging a bit and you allowed a couple of inaccuracies to creep in young fulla. However, overall it is not a bad little presentation. Length of the video is good but remember you can keep someone's attention for 30mins if you have a good style. So don't allow yourself to feel rushed. Well Done.
It was one of the best race cars in Australia, but only when they replaced the whole drive train to make it reliable. Stock from the factory it had * L31 * M21 *10 BOLT DIFF Exactly the same as a HX/HZ kingswood, not exactly a performance package... but with the Detroit locker, T10, and a better , more reliable L34 lookout instant rocket ship
Having seen one of those I must agree, this is due to Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Chevrolet sharing several models such as the Astra, Vauxhall and Holden Monaro, and the Chevrolet and Holden Commodore (sold as the ss in the USA).
It looked like an Opel Kadett C Coupé but I think it's the Ascona's "brother", although the Ascona never had a coupé version. I believe the Kadett's "twin" was the Holden Gemini. 🙂
They stopped racing them in 1980 because the LX model ended in 1978 and the UC model after it had no V8 option. Not sure on why it was allowed to race in 1979
Sadly it is highly inaccurate UA-cam videos like this that become some sort of "truth" for those that don't know any better. I would suggest you go back to the drawing board for this one, you can start by finding a picture of an actual LC.
I was getting information off one website that claimed the A9X had Isky valves and I couldn't find anything that confirmed or denied that claim so I threw it in to kinda pad out the talking in that section. Thank you for commenting.
That's a pretty fair choice but saying something is the best helps with getting views and I personally prefer the A9X hatch to any other Ford lol. The XB GT is super cool though.
@@Dale_official Personal choice alright D. I Iike the A9x, LJ XU1 and especially the Monaro 350. just a shame the do gooders back then put a stop to more of these cars after the phase 3. I admire any of the ol' school cars when i see them around especially the close to original . Not a fan of oversized engines sticking out of bonnents unless its a proper drag car.
@@Dale_official - so this is a subjective viewpoint? well then FUCK YOU moron. next time fucking state that its a personal subjective review not based on fact you fucktard.
The A9X floor pan was actually from a UC torana
My god, the inaccuracies in this video are endless.

Since when has UA-cam been the bastion of truth and fact?, it’s just content.
You are not very wrong, but maybe a better more constructive critique for the young fulla would help. If you have knowledge, share it old Son.
Mostly accurate, nothing to get in a knot over!😅
My most favourite Holden. An absolute beautiful looking car. Would love to have one now!!
The A9X torana was Holden's best ever car they produced .
Not true.....my uc sunbird with the mighty 1.9 opel 4 would like a word.
total nonsense dear, the Sandman was by far the greatest set of wheels hands down.

My friend there were two A9X,s a sedan 4 door and the hatch back as it called
indeed, the vast majority of them were four doors.

Nice video mate, couple of corrections required
*Looks like german Opel C coupe*
*Amazing and beautiful*

@@module79l28 The Opel Kadett does look very much like a Holden Gemini, but nothing like the LX Torana. The Torana was much bigger than the Gemini
Nice story . At 029 you state the pic was of an LC Torana but the pic was an LJ . A9X was the greatest racing Holden at the time :-)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the information.
i love you
but it was actually a 10 bolt diff.
lol

The A9X first raced in 1977
Another great video, love it!
It was a beautiful car. They ruined it with the sunbird. Why? You keep the name torana and do not ruin it's styling by going boring.
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Please use some much better footage as it's everywhere to be had. this is just awful to watch, sorry.

isky valves lol,no such thing

Isky cam, probably had valves as part of the package even if they didn't make them or brand them as iskenderian, or however it is spelt. lol
The Trana .... The best Aussie "muscle car" is the Ford Falcon XY GTHO fullstop.

Didn't Peter perfect brake the lap record in 1979 at Bathurst on the last lap ? ( Lap 161 )
yes, won by 6 laps and set a new lap record on the last lap!
