    I love all your videos! I have just started agility with my 6 yr old Lhasa x poodle and the videos help me to train at home in he holidays when training isn't on! Thanks!

    Thanks! This was a very old video. Twix was about 12-14 months in these clips. He is doing so well now. I just do not practice as much as I should. I have too many irons in my fire. Canine Freestyle and Disc dogging too. :))

    Thanks! If you run faster will Jemma go faster? If she is food motivated, you can toss bigger chunks of food for her to go after once she does a jump. You can also send her to a dish, lid or something that has food on it when she does the right behavior. If she is slow and you get to the food first, then she does not get it. If she beats you to it, then she has gone faster and she can have it. You can start with her further back and you closer so you have a better chance of getting it.

    I really like the ideas. May I ask why you have your hands that high? They always tel me, not above your waistline, but preferrably even lower.

      @Pamsdogacademy  7 років тому +1

      Personal preference I suppose. I have never had any of my instructors though out my agility career tell me to put my hand lower. Agility has changed a lot since this video and I no longer compete and have not competed for about 6 years. I personally just did not like wasting my entire weekend when I could play and do other fun things with my dogs. I am lucky that now we have our own agility field, a freestyle/disc field and a swimming pool at our property. :)

    Explain shadow handling? I have not heard that term before. Thanks and thanks for the great videos!!

      I think some might call it agility flatwork, but basically it is teaching the dog to follow your body language. Hope that helps... I have a few videos showing it more, but they are all really old and not that great. I have improved with my video making skills. :)

    I am not sure that I am going to trial. I have been doing Canine Freestyle competitions, but have been doing agility for fun. :)

    All it takes is a few times and she will get wise to the fact that you beat her and removed it. Then once she speeds up and gets there first, it might just be enough to get her moving a bit faster. Just an idea... Not sure if it will work, but I have done something similar with toys. So, why not do it with food. :)

    You are so welcome! I hope it helps. To motivate my husky mix, I would reward her with letting her sniff gopher holes. Whatever works... LOL!

      Pam's Dog Academy
      Hi Pam, thank you I had already watched 2 of those, have saved to all three to watch later. I have never done Agility and some of my clients enjoy the jumps I have so I like to get things right in case they want to move on to a proper agility class. Way too wet in UK at the moment for anything.

    Is it ok to jump my chocolate lab she is just over 8 years old and still acts like a puppy dorm days she did injure her knee at one point but it only bothers her now when she runs a lot and a vet said it was healed

    • @Pamsdogacademy
      @Pamsdogacademy  8 років тому

      +animals are life I am not a vet, but I would use your instinct. If it looks like she is in pain and does not want to jump, then I personally would not jump her. I don't jump my 11 year old husky mix anymore and my almost 9 year old Border Collie does do some jumping but I do a lot of cross training with him. If he jumps for frisbees or does agility one day, then I take him swimming or for walks the next few days. I don't let him jump two days in a row… I feel that it is better to be safe with our dogs than sorry!
