Almost Jeff, you almost got me in trouble. My wife is sitting on her laptop next to me and just snapped, "Is he comparing women to wild animals?" I was like "ummmm" (I knew by the tone, I must tread carefully). She said, "Well, he is mostly right. That can happen" I breathed a sigh of relief. Then I busted out the joke, "How many men does it take to open a bottle of beer?" None, because it should be open when she brings it to you. LOL She's a good sport, we pick on each other all the time. Rock on Man.

Hey Jeff, I’m so appreciative of all the information that you provide and it has helped me learn so much! I’m looking forward to getting back out into the woods soon still having a buck tag. I was wandering with all the experiences you have, if you would consider doing a video that addresses only hunting parcels that are permission properties? Some of the tips and tricks to have success on the land that you don’t own and don’t have free reign to do whatever you want to the land and the kinds of improvements and management to use on these permission properties to attract and keep more deer there. Thanks for all the info!!

I was very skeptical about a 2nd rut until one season, last day for archery in MN, I saw a buck trailing a doe not far behind as she was bleating…I then became a believer.

My next day to hit my stand is going to be the 5th I think, south east Michigan. I have hit a lot of state land this year and learned the lay of where I want to setup next season but this season I have one stand only and I have seen 4 buck in it but haven't had any clear shots so I let it rest for a few weeks now plus work has been kicking my rump. Good thing is my stand is on my works property so when I get back from work if it's an early day I can get on stand pretty quickly and quietly

My buddy and I have been documenting all our hunts on 600 acres in upstate NY since 2014 and I have to say that you are spot on with your observations. Shot my bucks Nov 14th and Dec 3rd last year. Seems we always have a new buck show up for late rut. Not so much the first. Thank you for posting all this. It has really helped us put some pieces together.

@@danielshoenfelt8578 you got some nice ones up there! I'm in SE NC, and it is tricky trying to hunt a rut or the weather. It changes so much here, you can't plan around it. I saw a nice 8 point on my cam at 5 a.m. this morning, and a cow horn 12" T by 8"W about 5:30. I'm side planting some aspen and box elderwood on the edges of my field for cover and browse. And doing "throw and grow" (alfalfa, clover, sweet grass) for the field with corn/soybeans in it. I have a seriously nosey and jealous neighbor who tries to ruin it every day for me becauseI won't let him hunt the bedding area behind my field. So road blockage and cover is a main priority for me this spring!! SMH

@@danielshoenfelt8578 maybe try some buckwheat or switchgrass for moving cover, hedgerows, clear-cut behind them, hinge cut some smaller browse trees or side plant them like I am. I don't like cutting the trees if it's not absolutely necessary. I got blessed when I bought this place with my age field backing up to a creek, and a power line right of way running straight through it. And I'm in the middle of farm land, so pressure isn't a huge problem, just a problematic neighbor... LOL

Have a friend coming in to do a select conversation cut and leave the tops where they fall. just an FYI from the field. I hunt southern Chester county in PA. Yesterday (11/30) the landowner where I hunt sends me pics of a pretty beefy 6-point hounding a doe through his neighbor's yard. He's not the most mature buck in the woods but he's probably a 4 1/2 which isn't bad for this area. I was scheduled to hunt the afternoon behind his house already. I pull into his neighborhood and see 6-7 doe with a 6-point right behind them...maybe a smallish 3 1/2 year old. I could tell he wasn't just with them; he was with them with intent. I end up shooting a mid-bodied 6-point coming in to feed on my corn pile shortly before dark. Not sure if this is the tail end of the primary rut or part of the secondary rut but whichever it is some bucks are still perusing some does.

WV muzzleloader is second week of December. It always seems like that’s when the big boys are more visible during the day, during the second rut. It’s like they let to young bucks drive themselves crazy and exhausted during the first rut, and have the easy pickings in December. The biggest and oldest bucks I’ve taken over the years have been during the second rut, almost exclusively mid-day. Does that seem to be the norm, Jeff? Just my experiences in mid December.

I hope the second rut is better than the first but it's going to be hard to beat this year in Central kentucky. The first rut was phenomenal there were bucks running everywhere on my farm.
Which may or may not be good because I have very few does on my property so the bucks are constantly moving which means they don't always stay on my 300 acres.
My property joins a really large Creek there's a drop off from the upper part of the pasture , it's a long steep decline down to a wide flat floodplain of pasture.
The woods between the wood have been logged over multiple times in the last 20 years lots of thick briars high stem count some patches of cedar and some hardwoods but mostly just thick.
There are logging roads that stair step from the upper part down to the bottom ie: multiple shelves
The logging roads are the path of least resistance and where the majority of the buck sign seem to be.
So I'm hoping the bucks will be running those logging roads again I passed on several good 130" 140" bucks this year getting a couple really good bucks is the 150" on camera still.
The rifle season ends today here and it's archery from now till mid-January with a brief muzzleloader season in mid December.
Sorry for the long winded comment.

Unfortunately mid Michigan. I love hunting my home state and have had great success! But this yr has been tough, and now adding the loss of my stands and other equipment. Ppl don't really understand that not every hunter is hunting for themselves, they could be tagging out for a family that needs meat for the winter with the costs going up in the store, or donating to the hunters for the hungry. I honestly feel if the person came to me and said "hey I'm going to steal your stuff cause I need money" I would have just paid them to help. It's frustrating

    • @Diffidentone
      @Diffidentone 2 роки тому

@@jeremiahsweeton Well is this public land, if so I'd think more anti-hunters if they smashed your ground blind but some hunters do see certain areas of public as "their" land. Had one guy have the nerve to tell me I could not hunt a certain area of public because he hunts there every year so has precedence to hunt it.
I've had a bunch of cameras stolen this year as well and thankfully here in southern Wisconsin we can not leave our stands out over night on public land so have not had one of those stolen yet. Even saw someone that had a cell phone camera up for the past 2 years that I always walked past and this year someone broke the cable off of it and stole it.
Next year I'm putting up cameras watching my cameras. Going to install my lower ones like I usually do and then several yards away going to install higher ones 10-20 feet up watching the other camera. Going to get these bastards hopefully at least busted for receiving stolen property as I'm not sure if it could go to theft charges as it is on public land.

Starting to get discouraged..been passing on so so average bucks all season.
But that's a good thing cause most of my nice bucks were shot between 11 and 4 o'clock late season. Seems when all deer activity stops and they all seem to disappear
"underground tunnels "? Are where they're hiding. Lol. No really out in the biggest corn fields laying down seems to be where you'll find them.
I've crawled into muzzle loader range many times in the wide open Indiana corn fields after spotting them way out where no one has been hunting all season long. My father in law inlightened me of this year's ago and I started glassing as if I was out west somewhere (during midday)
Once you have pressure in all the woods they know where people don't go,they seem to kick back out where they can't be approached facing downwind.
My longest belly crawl took 3hours just to get couple hundred yards closer. Be patient, stay low and slow.

Our family owns 500+ acres and it’s widely known that at the end of December our mountain is covered in deer. Mainly because deer season ends or lots of snow whichever comes first. Is this a phenomenon elsewhere. I know relatively little about winter deer habits. I’d be interested in your thoughts. Great video series this year I’ve enjoyed every one. Thanks 👍👍😎

Been seriously appreciating this content more and more recently ... so I have a question for what I’ll be doing this summer. How many mock scrapes would you install on a 250-300 acre farm that’s mostly field/crop based and just has some areas of thicker woods..? I’d say 3/4 ratio of field to woods

    Jeff question for you....
I have a special permit city hunt coming up this weekend. There is zero pressure on these deer other than us few bow hunters with special permits. This hunt should fall in this second rut window. Weather looks good. My question is this...
Do you recommend all day sits during this phase?

Christopher good luck!! Some rattling antlers right now late morning wouldn't be bad at all, in particular of your downwind is covered. Then a nice, peaceful sit in the snow this afternoon would be perfect. Not a lot you can do except sit and enjoy 😊

@Nooneinparticular987 well you definitely know what your talking about so I'm not gonna dispute anything your saying other than the wolves thing, I mean I understand what you mean, I can understand some brokenhearted hunter blaming it on shit like that, but the club I hunt with is a family owned one and I've been there all 15 years of my life. We just seem to find more and more corpses just mauled. I mean I remember when I was like 8 or 9 going up there and seeing some nice bucks, like to the point where passing up a 4 was common. But now seeing anything with antlers is great. Nobody in my entire camp got anything this year, which has never happened. I even got a tag that allows for 2 bucks with no antler restrictions, but no luck. Just hope it'll turn around somehow, because up there seems like the last free place in the lower 48 lol.

If i find one BIG deer bed on top of a ridge along with a faint trail that runs 500 yards
Straight down the middle of the ridge before ending in a nasty mountain laurel thicket,
Do you think that would be a dynamite place to catch a big mature buck moving during daylight ????....BEDDING AREA ?????

Especially for the younger, less experienced hunters like myself. I’ve noticed something new just about every single day I’ve hunted this season. I noticed that I’m getting better. Im more methodical about what I doing. Honestly, a big part of that is all thanks to you guys and your passionate professionalism in the way you instruct and share past experiences with us. I appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart. I respect what you’re doing and promote how your doing it. Hunting is a passion of mine, not to mention a great pastime. It alway has, always will be. This season I been doin alot of buck research watching your videos. I don't have good managed private land I hunt public land it's all heavy pressured of course. Today I seen a big buck I believe he looked to be a 4 yr old I should have waited but I rushed an missed my shot. Could you make a video on hunting deer you have missed before? I don't believe he ever new where the shot came from. If anyone see this an won't to give me some intell it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to harvest this buck of a lifetime for alabama.

The rut there is at a different time. It's over here I believe. I shot a smoker October 23. A 200lb 125 class 8 point. I think if you want a good chance at a good buck oct-nov is a good chance for them.

I live on ten acres and that's what i hunt. Creek separates my property they cleared over 200 acres across the creek. I don't think it effected it in a bad way at all. Maybe even helped the numbers alittle. I've hunted five times this year shot a doe the first day to put meat in the freezer. Let two smaller bucks walk and about 10 does. 4th time I went this year shot a 200lb 125 class 8 point old buck. Which in my area in south carolina is a monster. I don't hunt much at all even know it's in my backyard. I try to make my hunts on the best days to not over hunt my small property.

I'm sorry but numerous studies to date have shown zero evidence of menstruation synchronize in women, it just doesn't happen. This is a case of a phenomenon of which I know you are very familiar, confirmation bias. The amount of cycle overlap that is bound to occur with a 3-5 day menstrual period every 28 days is what leads to such beliefs. The fact is that menstrual cycles will separate at the same rate they met in time, but these periods of time are often ignored by people that believe in synchronization.
