    Hi, JC! We are amazed every time we watch your videos. Your channel is one of only a few that really presents high practical value to your viewers. Thanks!
    Your channel is perfect for us because we only have a small Lego city. We learned a lot from your videos. Please keep them coming! 👍🏼😊

    I really like the idea of a densely packed city. Most cities I have been to are like that.

    In my opinion, it could be a little more coherent. I think it has too much character. I agree about the streets, I think the large street base plates are too big.

    Looks like a good way to represent different districts in a large city.

    This is very cool. I think I could see myself doing something like this at some point if I really wanted a city. The good thing about this you could change it up every couple months buy switching up the modulars or other builds.

    Fluffy animal sighting at 4:29! =D
    You make many good points here JC. Variety is always key. The more that is going on in the city the better. Unless possibly if it is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic abandoned city. I guess it can still have a lot going on in one of those as well, just a little more subtle.
    This layout is very good but I am not a fan of the cluster of 6 small buildings in the middle. From most angles they look a little boring and the four back buildings don't really show properly. The small buildings on the right then look a lot better with that small road going through them giving some air, making it easy to see more.

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  5 років тому

      Thanks! I understand where you are coming from the cluster of 6 is really for demonstration to show the possibility of what can fit on a standard base plate. In future, I will revisit the concept and do a cluster of 6 identical integrated buildings to form a singular apartment complex that I think will look good.

    Thanks JC. Another great video. Yes, I believe variety and density are hugely important. However, I do see this city, particularly around the large builds as a little crowded. The tight fit doesn't really allow for a showcase of your larger builds. While I love making little builds, if I had large ones (not yet, just getting started on a limited wallet) I would be showing them off more. I am a believer that the choice of builds in a city speak to the builder personally. I really enjoy your videos and will continue to learn from your builds. Thanks!

    Hi JC, i do like your city and i fully agree with your principles, however i do believe that having been to HK and Singapore and KL myself on multiple occasions, your city reflects your surroundings which compared to Europe and North America are far more crowded in terms of density. I really love your stalls especially the kebab one and the homeless guy pushing the cart and i think that i will try to copy it and put it in my city! Lol. Thanks for your efforts!

      Thanks! There are different scales of micro city designs. I am not into the micropolis scale. I do like the mini-modulars and hope to do those one day. But, I also like what I call Minifig Micro scale which is the Lego city that minifigs builds in a Lego City. I will do releasing a video of this in 2 days or so. Look out for it!

    Hi J.C
    Love you small city layout. I have several 32×32 plates and some buildings on them. My problem is I'm trying figure out how place them for a layout. Could you do a video with the buildings removed and how you put the base plates together and show where the roads, sidewalk, and alleys are placed.

    The stories, little jokes and narratives are what really bring the space to life. That’s definitely missing in the dioramas at both the Legoland and Discovery centre I have visited- they are really sterile.

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  5 років тому

      I agree with the displays I saw at the Lego Discovery Centre in Japan. While the buildings and structures are great, there were too few minifigs IMO. They had 2 good scenes that were automated. One of a construction site and one of Godzilla coming out from behind a skyscraper.

    Just curious, if you raise the small city by one plate, and add tiles to the road make it realistic to a small city? Also my nephew would like to make a City, would you say this would be a good tip for a 8 year old to start?

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  5 років тому

      Yes, I think that will work. Not sure if the added cost and work adds that much more to the display though to make it worthwhile. 8-year old is a bit young but it really depends on the kid. If he is more into LEGO for the play features and using them as play scenes, I would go with the trusty police station/ bad guy city sets that are the in the City theme. This will allow him to create a cops & robbers city with car chases etc. If he is more into the building a city type deal (like an AFOL), then I would suggest the smaller creator building sets to create a little town and see how it goes from there. At that age personally, I would probably prefer the cops and robbers and smashing cars into buildings etc.

    There is a 300 square foot city of a certain large UA-camr, who many flaunt as being so good. I had always disagreed, and this video clearly explains it. His city is so big, yet so unpopulated, dull (as in not creative and no variety), and there was no real connection to it (no inside jokes except Sig Figs, no scenes, nothing). I’ve been trying to explain this all slowing to this certain UA-camr’s following, but they never listened! Hope they see this video

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  5 років тому +5

      I personally see two main schools of thoughts among LEGO fans. A majority (80%) would like the type of city I displayed with variety and density. And then is the 20% that just want scale and size. The bigger the better. As long as it is bigly, tall and huge, it is good.

      I agree with this about there being "two main schools of thoughts among LEGO fans". I sit in the first school and that is why I am drawn to these videos and this channel. I will soon be moving to a smaller apartment so I will plan a smaller, more condensed city like this one full of my own MOCs. I am much less interested in a city that merely profiles store-bought sets, anybody with a bit of money can do that, no?

    Compared to the smaller scale city blocks you showed recently, I find this one rather cluttered. Personally I think the bigger modulars need a little bit more breathing room rather than having more buildings crammed right in front of them. Personal taste, I know.

    • @SmallBrickCity
      @SmallBrickCity  5 років тому

      I understand where you are coming from. From a realism point, I think it works but for a LEGO display, the sidewalks in front of the back modulars could be wider.
