      Had mine and a few games stolen by my god sister's friend back when I lived with them for a while. No way to prove it. Just have my Graphite SP now, but hoping to get a back-lit version sometime as well. This is my third favorite gaming platform of all time after the NES and SNES. Anyway, yes, the original ones were awesome. Would have been killer to have had a back-lit version of those.

    Is the Game Boy Advance worth playing today? Well, of course! The GBA and GBA SP were both backwards-compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games. I would avoid the Game Boy Micro because it plays GBA games only. In my honest opinion, the GBA Micro killed the GBA line for being so tiny. The Micro was the size of a small cell phone.

    While I don't necessary agree with the Sonic Advance titles being better than the MegaDrive ones (I love nostalgia after all), I fully agree with your opinion about the GBA in general.
    This thing is just amazing with its huuuuuuuge library of games and features for the time.
    Too bad you didn't mention things like the ability to play multiplayer with ONE cartridge only or the amazing GameCube link cable that could also be used for games such as the Sonic Advance/Adventure titles or Wario Ware or Zelda.
    Easily the best GameBoy Nintendo brought out until this date with the 3DSXL being possibly the only thing that could hold up (if you exclude the original for its cult factor).

    The GBA SP is a sexy, sexy beast. And in my opinion the best handheld console ever. It doesn't have a silly over-complicated gimmick or overpriced proprietary storage, like certain other, more recent handhelds. Hell of a strong library too, and not just because of the backwards compatibility. It even has several games in my favorite genre, FPS. And most of them are actually good! There's even a decent port of Doom for the GBA, for crying out loud!

    There was an original Mario game on the Gameboy Advance which wasn't a remake.The new Mario game on the Gameboy Advance was Mario Vs Donkey Kong. It was the sequel to Donkey Kong 1994.

    • @carlosgobatto6328
      @carlosgobatto6328 7 років тому +1

      Firsttet Lasttet That's a really fun game, but I think he refered to a main series game and not spin-offs like Mário Kart Super Circuit, Mário And Luigi Superstar Saga, Wario Ware and others

    • @dragonfan50006
      @dragonfan50006 7 років тому +2

      Yeah but saying Mario vs Donkey Kong isn't a proper Mario game is like saying Donkey Kong 1981 isn't a proper Mario game and that's the game that started the whole series. Mario vs Donkey Kong is a Mario platformer game, so is Donkey Kong 1994.
      Sure Mario vs Donkey Kong may not be in the same style as Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World but its still a Mario platformer game.
      Its like saying The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds is not a proper Zelda game because it isn't in the same style as Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask

    • @dragonfan50006
      @dragonfan50006 7 років тому +2

      Also Super Mario Bros 3 on the Gameboy Advance has 38 extra levels. That's more levels than in Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2. So in a way Super Mario Bros 3 (GBA) is like a new Mario platforming game. Its kind of like Super Mario Bros 3's version of the Lost Levels but most levels are completely brand new. So thinking about it, you could call this Super Mario Bros 3: The Lost Levels instead of a Super Mario Bros 4

    I've been playing my Game Boy Advance games lately again. I used to play the old Game Boy games when the original clunky Game Boy started in 1989, but sort of phased out of the handheld devices during the 1990's (never got to experience the Game Boy Color era), just sticking with the main consoles like the NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, and GameCube and the PlayStation(s) 1, 2, and 3. In recent years, been chasing used GBA devices & GB, GBC, GBA games. Have a GB Pocket, GBA and the GBA SP (backlit version of the SP model AGS-101). Why Nintendo never made the older GB devices have backlit until the latter model GBA SP in 2005 was surprising.

    The GBA, GBC, N64 and GameCube era was such a good time for me. I have been playing my Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance lately again. I used to play the original Game Boy games when the old Game Boy started in '89, but sort became popular in the 90's (I also got an experience the Game Boy Color), and I sticked with the main consoles like the NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, the PlayStations 1, 2, & 3, and the Xbox. In the years, been digging up and finding accessories and devices for the GB, GBC and GBA games, like the Game Genie, Super Game Boy, WideBoy-64, and the Game Boy Player. I still own my Game Boy Advance since 2001. I don't have the GB Play It Loud!, GB Pocket and the GBA SP(s) yet, but I will get soon one day in the future (along with the repurchasing of the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color).

    Forgiving the lack of a headphone jack, IMO the GBA SP is the best handheld gaming system in history. The library of games available is immense and the quality and features are excellent. With the upgrades made available by modern technology, the system is truly amazing. Sure the sound chip isn’t as good as the SNES sound chip and the screen light isn’t as bright as you’d like, but it was awesome for the technology of the time. Excellent upgrades to the sound, screen, and battery life are available today.

    I love the original GBA, and I was given one as a Christmas gift by my mother that year in 2001 as I was going threw a rough time at work, and she wanted to cheer me up :-), and I can remember going threw a lot of lighting solutions for it lol, and I later got the GBA SP on launch day, and even though it was front lighted, and I played it like crazy I over all did not like it as much as it made my hands cramp up after a few hours of playing, but I had a 3rd party Mad Catz Adapter that let me charge, and play my SP at the same time but it was not a perfect solution as it had a loose fit, and I later found an adapter for the SP that came with Wireless headphones that would also let you charge at the same time, and when you where not using the headphones with the SP you could listen to the built in FM radio. :-) Also have 2 Gameboy players which I love, and if anyone needs a GBA player here in North America without the boot disc shoot me a UA-cam inbox message, and we can work out a fair price, as it's only taking up space in the closet in my home office. :-)

    The problem is that people stopped caring about the quality of games this generation. It's all about power and how many games their are. You could say it actually started during N64 vs PS1 but at least the N64 was successful. The GameCube wasn't, it only beat the Dreamcast, yet more people are going back to GameCube than PS2 or Xbox, just like how more people play N64 today than PS1. When the console war of the current generation happens, the ones with the most power will win, yet in the future more people will remember the console that actually was fun to play.
    (The GBA did well because it was the only really good handheld there was.)

    Well the reason that nintendo does not release hardware for you to be able to play your retro games on is that they are selling them digitally for the virtual console so that you will once again buy the same game from them.

    There's a massive surge of small handheld emulator gaming systems, with screens the same size as the GBA. Game Boys have amazing games made for a small screen so can look better than modern games shrunken down to the small size. Especially after an IPS screen upgrade.

    As i have nearly finished my original collection, i may start collecting the Game Boy Advance. I have never played on one as the years it was for sale were kind of a blur :-0, and have never got around to getting one since.
    My only worry is that every other game i see seems to be a fake! I think i will get a 101 back lit modded version as it suits my needs best. Looking forward to discovering new great games to play!

    Without starting the video, Yes the Gameboy Advance is worth playing today. Specially the SP. It's small enough to fit in your pocket and with a library of over 1000 games including Final Fantasy IV, V, VI and other RPG's great shoot em ups like Advanced Guardian Heroes, and Classic Ports like Mario World and Even Megaman Games like the Zero series which got 4 releases on the console, it has something for everyone to enjoy. I even carry it around with me today to play Classic RPG's and the battery lasts more than 8 hours.

    Such a shame you didn't talk more about Metroid: Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission and Minish Cap. And how can you not mention Game Freak's little-known gem Drill Dozer? Those games were amazing and still some of the best looking pixel art games to this day. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was also pretty great (it dragged on for too long though). I also heard that the GBA has some pretty great 2D Tony Hawk Pro Skater games, but I've never played them myself.

    • @RadioTails
      @RadioTails 7 років тому

      Battalion Wars was going to be called "Advance Wars: Under Fire". Since it didn't really had an relation with the Advance Wars series (well Advance Wars 1 & 2 at the time), it's title was changed to Battalion Wars. Battalion Wars later on got a sequel on the Wii.

    Gameboy Micro screen, albeit small, had a stellar screen for it's time and one of the first LCD screens that I saw that used screen technology more in line with what we actually see in devices today.
    I just wished that Nintendo would go back to some of the great titles that was released on this system. However to their credit there have been a small batch of GBA titles on the Virtual Console on the Wii U. Now... if only they'd get on with it and bring out the VC to Switch.

    I just like to point out that you didn't mention the 2005 Backlit Model (AGS-101) that was commonly referred to as the GBA SP 2. It would be the definitive way to play every gb/gbc/gba games. The screen was just about the same of a DS lite in terms of quality. Maybe you should add it to the video or put a note in it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Advance_SP#Backlit_Model_.28AGS-101.29

    A 3DS/DS player for a TV or monitor would be amazing. They could do it fairly easily as a stand alone device not needing to connect to a Switch. I'm pretty sure they could add a port to a 3DS XL allow you to plug it into a TV anyway, they must just not want to do it.
