Love your reviews! You can tell you have proper knowledge of what you’re talking about which is refreshing 😂. I would love a proper review of the Windlass Brandonberg Rapier! I’ve had my eye on it for a while. Keep killing it!
Thanks, I appreciate the voice of confidence! That is a nice one and I've considered that one as well. Perhaps in the future I might pick one up and give it a review.
Glad to see this review! I've been wondering about it since I saw it first appear on the museum replicas site. In the specs listed for on KoA made me think it might be a bit heavy and clunky. Glad to hear that it really is not.
Nah I don't document distal taper, but I mentioned it in the final thoughts, but yes it has decent distal taper compared to other Windlass Rapier. Do you mean the thickness of the Riccasso? If so, I'd say about 1/8" thick and about 1/4" wide and tapers into the encusion.
Got it in the mail yesterday, here is my take on it: I especially like the big pommel and the peen is done flawlessly though the hilt assembly is a little sloppy the grip and pommel do not line up. The edges are all rounded and the portion where the hilt meets the blade is quite thick I find it to be more comfortable with 2 fingers in the rings. The blade is very rigid and poity as hell and stays quite thick throughout. The sharpness is disappointing because of the angle of the secondary bevels you would have to rework the entire profile to cut anything with it and even then it would probably not make a great backyard cutter because the cutting portion of the blade is still 4.5mm thick. The blade would have to much mass in the upper half for typical quick wrist cuts. The V shapes you see on the sheathe are solderd on and only on the display side. Overall I'm quite pleased and the blued finish doesn't make it less attractive in my opinion unlike the rest of the Battlecry swords. Here are my measurements : Thickness at the base of the blade: 5.7mm Thickness in the middle of the blade: 5.1mm Thickness 10 cm from the tip: 4.0mm Width at the base of the blade: 24. 1mm Width at the middle of the blade: 15.6mm Width 10cm from the tip: 9.3mm
Is it rigid enough? The other rapier with the same hilt is supposedly very floppy. I bought a hanwei replacement blade for a custom rapier and was very disappointed: blade is 6mm at the base has perfect distal taper and is still very floppy, point was bend and the secondary bevels are done at a 45° angle and the blade does not spring back to true entirety
It is, it has flex but not whippy at all compared to others I've handled, completely different blade than the 17th Century Italian Rapier, just the same hilt.
Thank you David for another great cool sword review! I’ll admit that if I could afford it, I’d certainly buy it & play with it like an idiot, probably until I hurt myself or break something, but hey, it’s a NEW SWORD! All is worth that! I mean, come on, it a SWORD! If you don’t understand that I don’t think we can be friends with anymore. 😂 Just teasing you of course. But looks great for the price in the market! Great find for everyone man, thanks! Best wishes to you and your family. ✌️🇺🇸
Thanks! Just keep the pointy end opposite of you and go outside before un-sheathing it lol! Yes very impressive for the price, thanks for the well wishes and to you as well!
I am wondering if you happen to know if the battle cry messer has the same blade as the cold steel messer? If so what are your thoughts on that? Thank you!
Sorry not familiar with either messer. Probably very similar though as anything made in India and sold by Cold Steel is made by a subsidiary of Windlass.
You’re the first guy to review this sword properly as far as I can tell - should hopefully get you tons of views from people looking into it and the following your channel deserves! Great review again!
Thanks! Appreciate the support, there's a lot of interesting details regarding Rapier and yes I agree not a lot of channels cover these details. Me too lol, that'd be awesome!
@@pablofernandez57 Regardless of domain, the three ring hilt was designed by Italians and is known as an Italian hilt. No different than the cup hilt being of Spanish origin. Doesn't mean people's of other regions didn't use these hilt configurations, just that they were prominently used by peoples of and designed in those specific regions.
Great review David! 😊 how’s the edge, is it relatively sharp, or at least sharpenable?
Thanks! It's sharp, enough to cut out of the box.
That’s the same sword that the villain used in the movie “The Princess Bride”. Very beautiful sword. Good review David 👍
Thanks! Are you talking about Count Rugen?

Thanks, yea it's a nice Rapier. Best I've handled sub $400 and a lot better balanced than a lot of the Del Tin models.
@@DynamoSwordChannel that's pretty impressive
Forgive me if I missed it, but what kind of distal taper does it have? How thick is it at the guard or between the guard and the grip?
thanks

I know Chrono when I hear it 😊
Actually the rapier was developed by Spain and we have to keep in mind that by that time most of Italy was part of Spain
