I heard the same story for another song which belongs to the film - "Ganga Ki Lahre" (1966).The song was-"Shamma bujhne ko chali....'.It was recorded by Kishore Da but,Ashoke Kumar and Music director Chitragupt didn’t quite like the rendition.Then the song went to Rafi Sahab who rendered it as good as they wanted.
