Try the AKG C7($250)(phantom powered). I got 2 at the same time I got a Shure KSM8($400)(like the Pope uses, 'cause I wanted something non-phantom powered for my Bose S1, I also discovered that the S1 works good as battery powered bass amp for acoustic jams). I use the C7 to record live gigs from F.O.H. board mix (male & female voices, harmonicas, instruments, drums , etc.).Picked up 2 more last year!! I think the C7 does all the things you thought were missing in the C5 (different presence peak)& I think it records better than the KSM8. Excellent rejection of off-axis background stage & handeling noise also.
I think it sounds pretty nice, and the rejection seems better than many. I still haven't ventured into the world of handheld condensers, but I'm sure it'll happen. Thanks for the video!
The 'plastic protection' you mentioned is a presence boost cap. When installed, it boosts the frequency between 5 kHz and 9 kHz. Removing it will result in a subjectively thinner but more detailed sound...
The styling would look very professional when used at a podium. Something very businesslike about it. I wouldn't pay $200 for it, certainly, but I'll keep an eye out for one to pose with!
Picked this mic up a couple years ago used for ~$60 and haven't felt the need to upgrade it. Pair it with NVidia Broadcast / RTXvoice and I've easily got the best audio compared to anyone else in any zoom meeting (it helps that I have it routed through a mixer for a minor EQ).
@@ObscureMics thank you lol. And yeah, the default tuning of the mic compliments my voice rather well on its own to begin with. Plus, with microphones, there is a hard-line for diminishing returns the moment you hit that $120 threshold from what I've been able to gather.
@@ObscureMics lol, well thank ya. I enjoy your straight no nonsense delivery. That being said, I totally understand why folks are chasing newer more high end gear. The enthusiast hobby is like that regardless of subject matter. However, I don't think most people would be able to tell the difference between a shure sm7b versus a well EQ'd neewer nw-700 routed through nvidia broadcast. Because if you're being realistic, what's the probability that someone listening to you is using something actually hi-fi? How many people use BT audio devices or cheap headphones/earbuds? And thats not even accounting for the lower bitrate of various streaming/communication platforms. -insert hank hill do I look like I know what a jpeg is- I think people should pursue what makes them happy though lol. Sorry for the tangent, hope your week is going alright. Keep up the content so long as you enjoy doing it ^ - ^
No.... Good tangent. And yes. My only requirement for listening to a radio show, or podcast, or youtube channel... Is decent audio quality. If that means they have a neewe nw700 so be it... Just make sure it's close to your mouth and sounds like an actual vocal mic. Actually.... Any dynamic mic... Literally dang near any... Is good enough for me to listen to. Thanks for watching and chatting! I won't stop cause I can't stop.. Eh eh eh ehhh.
I had to go “backurds” to see this. 😃 It does have really good rejection. Certainly something almost anyone could use for voice. Kinda the thing with A/B is if you don’t have an A/B you probably won’t know.

Good suggestion. I've kept eyes on a few so we are on the same page!
I picked one up on clearance for $45.00 from guitar center. I gig with it. Works great.
Great price

They are honestly better in almost every way compared to dynamics
Peter Picked Pickled Poontang!
Yum!
AKG just doesn't make a bad mic.
That is pretty much what I said on the social media post for the video
I just added one of these to my collection. So far, so good!
Definitely worth keeping around. Keep me updated if you find it's perfect use case!

Learned something new today! Thank you
I'm a Tenor with Husky , Grainy voice.. Should I buy this Akg C5 or Save money and Go for Akg D5 ?
I think the c5 would fit a little better
I have an old AKG C emotions 9000 great mic Just wandering if i should upgrade.
any advise would be appreciated.
If you love the mic you have... Never a reason to "upgrade"

Lol good thought
Hey great video. For recording Udemy and UA-cam Videos would you recommend this mic or the Blue yeti?
This all day
The plastic protection is to keep it from getting pregnant. I like the sound of this one.
There's holes in that protection though 👶🍼
We hit 88 degrees today. Just to make you jealous. Sounds pretty good. Seems a good basic mic
Rub it in Dale.
One thing, a bit heavy when put on a small boum stand that tends to fall if you are not carefull....
This little handheld?

I'm of the opinion that there's no need to upgrade as well. People get too fancy. That's a great mic, and it sounds like you have a great setup
