Kudos to the piano technician! You may not realize it, but tuning 5 different pianos together, especially when they are different scales (sizes) like this, is a tremendous challenge. That’s about 7-8 hours or more of tuning where the temperature must be kept perfectly steady, in addition to the fact that each piano tunes slightly differently from the others.
Geoff Hazelrigg that’s possible, but knowing this family I suspect unlikely. This style of music is often recorded in a performance venue (like a small recital hall) instead of the typical studio situation. I’ve had to tune 8 pianos before for a performance. The circumstances of the performance space doubling as a lecture hall didn’t allow for this kind of precision. So I’m pretty familiar with the process.
I do and this NEVER happened. .... I do not have 5 steinways though so maybe that could have helped. Instead we fought, threw food at one another and went on to working for our parents.
I've got some fairly high end studio monitors and I'm sure they wouldn't be up to the task even without the UA-cam pieces in between. Nothing ever beats being in the room live.
Considering this is about $1 million worth of Pianos I agree. Even my $2000 home theater system would barely scratch the surface of the nuances of these fine instruments.
An inspiration to watch! I am 72 years old and learning to play the piano into my third year. So much to watch and learn from what I am seeing and hearing. Even the eye contact and smiles. What my teachers have told me I can see in the Browns. By the way, Sleigh Ride is my favorite Christmas song. This video has increased my motivation in learning to play. Thank you! Sorry I can't comment more on the technical aspects of the piano, but I'm getting there. T. Paige
Congrats, Timothy, on your decision to learn piano! I also decided in my 60s to take lessons and have done some composing. This song is a favorite of mine also, although I don't celebrate the holiday for which it was written. These siblings are certainly a very talented group! A pleasure to watch and listen! Best wishes to you and happy playing!
I too decided to learn how to play and read music just after my 66th birthday..im 20 months into my journey that hasn't been easy to travel bcuz of my aging brain and my having serious health issues...sigh...it was very hard to find a teacher willing to teach an old dog new tricks...but the 1st teacher IS the most amazing and talented musician but wasn't a good teacher and her husband became obsessed and stalking me and that caused me to suffer and I stopped playing and learning bcuz I was very discouraged...so for 2 months my piano collected dust as I contemplated giving up my learning...but I found an awesome teacher my age willing to take an older new student...im back on the path but now health challenges making it difficult to spend long periods of time it takes to learn piano basic and music theory...i was spending at least 2 to 3 hours per day practicing I'm ashamed to admit I'm lucky to spend an hour ...hopefully my spinal surgery will help get me back to where I need and want to be...we should form a support group to help encourage one another
@@lovesmusic36 There is nothing about Sleigh Ride to indicate that it was written for Christmas or any other holiday. Yes, it has come to be associated with Christmas, along with other songs celebrating winter (Let It Snow and Winter Wonderland come to mind) but even the original lyrics, which were not composed until two years after the instrumental version had become a hit, make no mention of the holiday. Some recording artists have replaced "birthday party" with "Christmas party," but that is an adaptation, not the original wording. Enjoy!
@@Victor1930 Thanks, Victor! Yes, I know lyrically, that's true. From what I've read, the song was written in July, very much like Mel Torme's The Christmas Song was composed on a very hot day! Sometimes in the summer, I'll listen to Sleigh Ride just for fun! Also Marshmallow World recorded by Johnny Mathis is another song associated with Christmas with no mention of Christmas in the lyrics.
Magnificent pianos! But, don't want to hurt my piano's feelings- a lifelong pianist, who went through a tragedy- my piano has always been my emotional conduit- Last year, walking into town, a piano left on the main street! No one knew how or why- it came home to live with me. A musical miracle!
I love that story! It makes me smile.....a stray piano just sitting there waiting for someone to love it and give it a good home. God bless you and your stray piano. ♥️♥️
I bought a 7ft 6in Yamaha C7 that was completely rusted out, the cabinet was in great shape and this Asian man from Bejing a classical pianist turned technician gutted the entire piano and I repainted the harp, meanwhile he rebuilds the inside of the piano with new strings, pins, dampers and hammers and now the sound is incredible. about ten years ago.
I suggest that you Google the 5 Browns and find out what happened to those girls under their "proud" parents. The father is still in prison for his crimes.
My Dad bought a baby grand Steinway in 1968, beautiful ebony with claw feet, he was told it was one made for the whitehouse, gold color inside, my sister and I also played ❤🎹🎵🎼
Wow, what a time piece for the books. This will be remembered throughout time itself. You can feel the energy and all the joy they bring. Deffinatly brings a smile to my face and inspires me in many ways.
@@davidp.anderson4847 would have to agree. I have a Yamaha 6'7 from the 80's had the high end softened ...and prefer it over any Steinway I've ever played. Fazioli--- AMAZING!!!
How is it possible to love this and get anxiety from it at the same time!? I'm not sure, but it happened. And now I am looking up the 5 browns all over UA-cam.
This is next level stuff - more than sleigh bells and jingle bells - it transports you to another dimension. I returned to planet earth at the end. Thank you so much for a beautiful experience.
I would love to stand right in the center of these pianos when they’re playing this. Can’t imagine how amazing this sounds when you’re in the room. My favorite holiday video this year. Thank you for sharing.
Any one of you would be wonderful to hear, but the five of you together is just WOW! Wonderful! It is one of my favorite Christmas songs, I’m from Boston!!!!
Wonderful!! And I hear a lot of Gershwin influence here. BTW, I love reading comments where people are well up in years and still learning to play! I hope one day to hear you here on UA-cam! Merry Christmas, all!

I was thinking about this, too!
It was probably recorded on the same piano in a studio. This is just the video.
Yes, absolutely.. theres so many tuners out there that can't tune 1 piano..lol

2 Steinway Ds and 3 Bs i'm guessing?
Now I wish I had five siblings and five Steinways
Don’t you mean *four* siblings in addition to yourself?
@@hungkok2007 well someone has to record the video

I would have to think long and hard on that one. Those 5 Steinways are worth $855,000.00.
Cheap
I'm pretty sure my $12 computer speakers didn't do this justice.

The amount of practice that has gone into playing at this level is astounding.
Five brilliant pianists in one family 😱 And five Beautiful Steinway Concert Grands ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just imagine trying to get practice time on the piano. Maybe Mum and Dad bought 5 pianos.
I love to see siblings bonded like this...So many today don't even speak to one another even though they live in the same town or city
Playing the finest pianos in the world - Steinway. Magnificent.
Except for Fazioli and the high-end Yamahas.

This is waaaaay more wholesome than the stuff I usually watch on line. I think I like it!

Imagine FIVE greats in one family!!! This is a miracle in itself. What a sensitive, musical rendition with "Julliard" technique - kudos to you all.
What a charming, inventive, brilliant, colorful transcription of Leroy Anderson's delightful song. Wonderfully performed.

Wow!! I just have no words - I'm speechless.
Half million dollars worth of great sound, and can't imagine anyone who wouldn't appreciate that wonderful performance

Mom and Dad Brown: We already bought five pianos SO YER LEARNIN' PIANO.

Nothing like making the rest of us realize that we are actually a bunch of losers. Keep up the good work!
I got to attend a Ferrante & Teicher concert in Chattanooga, Tennessee a few years back. This is wonderfully reminiscent. I wish you well. Texas
AWESOME....such a pleasure listening to wonderful music. Thank you
Every time I hear them play I am in awe. Those giving thumbs down obviously have no clues of chord progression or how difficult this is.
Wie kann man ein so schönes Lied nur so verhunzen. Unglaublich!
