Another great example of why so many of us loved being off school in the 70s. My nan’s house, a tiny bit of a cold, Lucozade with cellophane, Junior Dispirin & tele like this. Utter bliss.
_"My nan’s house, a tiny bit of a cold, Lucozade with cellophane, Junior Disprin"_ ... Strange but true, I was only reminiscing about this a couple of days ago. As a young bride of two months in 1971 I remember watching this wonderful cookery program in our first home, it brings back so many happy memories. Glad to say I still love cooking for my hubby ,also our family and grand children when they visit us.
My mammy a herdsmans wife would watch it Monday dinner time. Dorothy Sleightholme was a real farmers wife and said it straight. We got it on Westward till 1979.
If possible please upload some more from this fantastic series, it’s needed now more than ever as it provides a little oasis in this sometimes frightening world.
I agree , I love to immerse myself in my nostalgic childhood when life was so much better but we had not a lot of anything . Life was so much better back then ❤
I really liked this programme - broadcast when I was a new, young mother. Trip down memory lane. The innocence of it all is delightful to watch once more.
This is an absolute delight, thank you for sharing. I loved watching Grace Mulligan on Farmhouse Kitchen in the 80s, but I never saw any of the Dorothy Sleightholme episodes. This is a treat!
I absolutely loved this programme. My beloved (now departed) best friend and I used to watch it and try to re-create Dorothy Sleightholme's recipes... beautiful xxx
I began watching these weekly programmes in 1971 at 2.30pm whilst the baby slept and the others played. Dorothy often had a guest cook with her and my favourite was Mary Berry. Always so friendly and young, she was inspiring to a young mum on limited income. I enjoyed her savoury tart recipe and, now in my 80's I still make it. Made with eggs, bacon, onion and cheese, we would call the same recipe a quiche! My original 'Complete Farmhous Cookbook' is now well used and a bit tatty but still used all the time, mostly when family visit. Such happy memories.
They had a field day with the Marjorie and Joan sketches. Compare with Mary Berry and Judith Chalmers cookery programme in the mid seventies (on UA-cam)
I have such fond memories of this series, I still have the Farmhouse Cookbook which I received for my 16th birthday, i still use Mrs Robins Fruitcake and I loved Grace Mulligan…. Happy days from down to Earth no nonsense Women!
I also received this book when I was 16 (1984) and I used to imagine preparing all the recipes when I had my own home and was married! 40 years later I still use this book regularly and am happily married.
I was crippled by an electric pylon in 1977 and recall watching this from my aunties sofa after my mum had eloped with one of the teachers from my junior school. I loved watching this, it brought me much comfort and I wished the two ladies were me mums. Stay healthy everyone
What a charming way to spend half an hour. I was only a small child but I do remember this series and watching it with me mother and grandmother. Please do upload more episodes if you have them.
I love this thank you! Reminds me of being a small child. I love the present ideas peppermint creams in little boxes. I can see Victoria Wood and Julie Walters in these hostesses.
Wonderful, happy memories. Used to watch this programme with my nan. She had the books and tried all the recipes. Still make the peppermint creams every christmas !!
Great to see a Dorothy Sleightholme episode. Farmhouse Kitchen episodes are rare and are usually Grace Mulligan. Dorothy was my favourite Farmhouse Kitchen presenter as a child. She had such a kindly manner, reminiscent of a treasured grandmother.
Thank you so much for posting this gem! My Grandma was a British war bride who came to the U.S. and missed her home in England every day until she passed away. Sometimes, we'd get to see some of these cooking shows on public television, and it was an event--she'd sit with a cup of tea and some buttered toast and watch them in rapture. "That's the sound of home," she'd sigh. She would have adored the chance to watch these treasures. I have subscribed and will watch every single one. Thank you! ❤❤❤❤
This is proper television cooking. I used to love watching this show as a kid on the days when i wasn't at school. Such a comforting atmosphere. Thanks for sharing it.
My Nana gave me a Farmhouse Kitchen book when I got married and when Mum died I inherited all hers as well. We used to watch the programmes together. It was a great programme.
Yes life was simpler and happy here then. No Muslim terrorists threatening our lives. We will never get those days back. Especially now we have Starmer in power.
That blue and white tin in the truffles section- my Nana had a biscuit tin with that pattern. I’d forgotten, but seeing that pattern.. lovely memories.
Wow, I remember watching this episode with my Mum when it was broadcast in 1978, would have been 7 back then I still have the books and still use them.
Watched these programs with my nana when i was sick from school, people looked older for their age back then, those ladies were only 34 and 29, bless em
I remember watching these programmes with my grandma. Then, in august, mum and grandma would start making 4 Christmas cakes and 4 Christmas puddings. 1 each for my auntie and uncle and us. Each week, grandma would feed the cakes I can't remember if it was whiskey or brandy
Used to watch this with my mum. I remember we made peppermint creams, I think we always added too much flavouring to things, but who cared we were having fun. These ladies came across as kind and calm, Fanny Craddock was very gruff 😊❤
I remember watching this cooking programme as a young 20 something....loved it and brought the books....l especially loved the mincemeat cake where the only fruit you used was a jar of mincemeat it was so soft and light one of my favourites...thankyou for downloading this...👍💕
