John Mark Skunkap has been and is a top rider. I've seen him come in first many times. This year he rode for my friend Chris Anderson and brought his Cedar Ridge team in first at Blackfoot. If you've ever heard the term "Wild Indian" come watch the Indian relay races and you will witness it first hand. The other horse races aren't nearly as exciting and the relay races. The horses, the teams and of course the riders are incredible. I salute you my friends. Thank you for many good times.
When John Mark rides it's like magic. He can fall off a horse, run beside it while still holding the neck, then jump back on. Pretty amazing. Of course I dont need to tell you. Just giving one example to the people browsing the comments.
I met Starr Weed a few years ago at the Blackfoot Fair. He was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and a German prison camp. He said one day an American tank crashed through the gate. In awe I asked him how he felt. "I was free" he exalted. He died 2 or 3 years ago but I honor him and all his buddies.
Sadly, a team is disqualified if a horse gets away. I'm with you, I hope the rider was OK. It's surprising how few get injured considering the incredible action.
You have to see it to believe it. I've seen John Mark jump the horse, grab his neck, and be flat on his back until they are at full speed on the track.

The lil' gray that was just running with the others after his rider fell absolutely made my day haha :) Hope the rider was okay.

Great video! I was there on 7/11 and would guess that this video was from a previous night.
Way better than the Kentucky Derby!
Totally a new bucket list item!!
Vraiment très impressionnant, bravo à vous.
Crazy how fast he is able to switch horses. I think on the last one, he squished his nuts lol.
