I found that it wasn't gunk that was stopping my pop-up plug from popping up, it was limescale. Having not been able to release it when a man in my home got it stuck (again) with a sink full of water, I first used a jug to remove the sink water and put it down the toilet. I then put a bowl under the u-bend underneath the sink and removed the u-bend. I got a long screwdriver and put it up the basin waste and knocked it upwards which pushed the pop-up up. I unscrewed it using rubber to grip it and soaked the mechanism with Viakal spray limescale remover. Having had to do this numerous times I've given up with pop-up plugs and am trying out a rotating plug. I use drain brushes to clean down the sink hole. 😊

@@anne-mariegrovestock-thomp9707 the girls are doing it for themselves! Go Anne!!! I actually had a similar issue in that the sink was full of water too. I emptied it with a jug, but then I used a sponge to get the last bits out because I didn’t necessarily need to remove theu bend , and as it happens, I didn’t so glad I didn’t, take the u bend off simply to empty the sink. We got this!!!!x
