I hope you see this message as it can help you fix some of the problems you had with the build. The USB dropout bug is easy to fix. Go to Settings -> System -> Power & Sleep -> Additional power settings -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> USB Settings -> USB selective suspended setting -> set it to Disabled. as for the RAM issue... not every motherboard can push 6000mhz with 4 sticks and dual channel. PS: just checked the official X670E AORUS XTREME (rev. 1.0) motherboard Memory Support List and 4 sticks 6000mhz with that ram is not officially supported. All I could see is that with 4 sticks of ram everything over 4800mhz is considered "memory oc" for that board.
This is actually not a new issue. We had to do this on all our Intel based Dell laptops for the past 10+ years or so because of end user complaints. Thankfully it was an easy fix.
Great post, I usually like this guys reviews but this one was bad. This video showed a lack of experience and willingness to optimize with AMD products to properly give a review.
Some of the negatives have nothing to do with it being an AMD system. Such as the noise and the ticking from the EVGA fans. But otherwise interesting review.
Well, AMD did decide to have their CPUs always push to 95°C on basically any workload. No fan in the world is going to take that with silence. It's an AMD problem IMO. They're boosting way too hard for what it's worth. Just turning on Eco mode and setting the max to about half your CPU's TDP solves the problem really well though. GN did a great piece on performance/power consumption with eco mode, it was 96% of power at half the consumption.
Have to agree with you on this one, crappy fans on an AIO should not impact your thoughts on the parts you are testing, they could have just as easily crapped out on an intel rig
@@bronsondixon4747 you do. There's nothing that can control 12900k/13900k. Literally all reviews mention this. Most of them reviewed it with a 360mil AIOs as well.
i understand you faults but idk if i could blame them on a full amd setup. i too myself edit and code a lot on my amd setup and have never reached anywhere near 90c doing anything. albeit my main is custom looped and my second am5 setup is using a 280 aio. gigabyte software is trash but still better than asrocks and Amory crate software always reverts the lighting when it needs to be updated. lastly, i fully recommend switching to Davinci Resolve: its free and a lot of the plugins you're already used to will work in it. i then use the Affinity suite instead of anything adobe. Why pay that adobe fee?
So you ran an EVGA AIO which are notorious for having loud fans but then blame AMD for the system being loud? What was that about unbiased testing you mentioned earlier in the video?
@@BPSCustoms I don't know if i just misinterpreted what you said but for me it sounds like you're blaming amd for the overall system being loud when it's the fans for the AIO that are bad.
@Neggy-Z I mean fans running at 100% because the CPU is constantly pushing temps doesn't seem like the AIOs fault though. Sure, different fans at 100% would be quieter but they're still loud. Perhaps, the Intel system also pushes 90°C+ during content creation/gaming/general use?
It's weird how a power user listing issues that have nothing to do with the title of the video, the AIO noise levels are not to be blamed on AMD nor EVGA (thought their cooler is loud) because the cooler doesn't know that the CPU is designed to shoot to 95C under load... The RAM issues could be solved via a Bios update (if available) or running high density dual 32GB sticks, pretty sure that may iron out the issue (still it needs to be tested) I feel like you could use more time and tweaks to get the most out of this system then try giving an honest impressions about it.
If a PC crashes randomly one time per month, that's one time too many. As much as I hate to say it, Intel/Nvidia is still the better choice for a stable trouble-free system.
I've been on a full time AMD system for a year. Had a few random crashes while gaming but always hard to tell if it was the game or not. I mainly game outside of simple MS Office stuff. B550 motherboard and 4 slots of 8GB DDR4 3600 CL16 RAM and a 5800X recently changed out to a 5800X3D and a 6800XT GPU. Really no issues TBH but I do not do professional video editing so thanks for looking into that. Always been fast and solid for the most part here at least but I am on last gen.
Yeah I have a x570 Velocita mobo by AsRock, 4 x8gb Corsair Vengeance rgb (32gb) ddr4 3600 cl16 RAM with a Sapphire Nitro + 6800xt. And I agree, no issues since 12/21. I have done minor editing but no problems there. It's been rock hard solid in gaming. No issues with RT other than it kills the fps. RT looks good! But it would do better on my RTX 3080 FE. And I don't think AM5 is good enough to upgrade to. So many problems right now. I can't believe AMD let this happen! Give it a year and see how drivers and improvements are. Age like fine wine I hope. RTX 4090 will probably still be dominating. AMD, don't give it up! The fight ain't over! So step up or roll over and die! LOL :D
I'm a new enthusiast and leaning new things everyday. I just wanted to say that I'm running 4 dimms on am5 7700x at 6000 with no issues at all. I don't know if it has anything to do with my setup but I did by accident buy G skill non neo, xmp version cl 36, 36, 36, 96. All in all my system is like yours and AMD build I too have the 7900xtx and I love my build!
From my experience, when using AMD Ryzen based systems, when you start having USB controller disconnects, it means that your CPU/Memory OC/Settings aren't truly stable. I'm curious if you went to full auto, albeit slower, would it become stable...
For the RGB issue, see if you have a hardware lighting profile for your RAM. I had the same issue with my Corsair RGB, but once I changed the hardware lighting profile in icue my RGB doesn't revert back to rainbow when icue isn't running.
2:59 - "This has been true for AMD for quite some time. ...doesn't play nice with 4 dimms..." Maybe you had some issues with this CPU + RAM. But that's a pretty sweeping generalization that contradicts my observations. So I will share them. With 31+ years experience in IT, I've done MANY AM2, AM3, AM4 and now AM5 builds over the past 15+ years. Whether 2 or 4 DIMMS, overclocked or not, tightened timings or not, I have NEVER...not ONCE in 100+ AMD and Intel builds...failed to get the RAM to run at the advertised speeds. This is VERY RARE for both AMD and Intel systems, and does not represent the pattern of reliability that I have experienced with AMD. Hope you have better luck next time.

Lucky you, then.... 🤥 From my experience, I couldn't get to run my DDR-4 RipJaws V 4x8 GB kit to run at rated 3200 MHz speed on my MSI KRAIT Gaming X370 mobo with an older R7-1700X CPU, no matter what. Constant system crashes and BSOD's were driving me nuts for months. 😵💫Only 2933 MHz speed was stable. When I upgraded CPU to R7-3800X, system finally, could run stable with no problems.😅
@meowquise Wrong. You have been misinformed, sir. For example, 4 slots of RAM is peak performance on AM4, especially if using a matched set of high quality modules such as Samsung B-Die. I also have had great success overclocking low voltage Samsung DDR3 on AM3 platforms. For example I had a 4x2GB G.Skill ECO 1600 kit to run at 2100 on 1.53v with both Phenom II and FX CPUs. All that matters is whether your motherboard uses a Daisy Chain or T-topology RAM slot config. This affects the overclocks and timings you can expect.
Thank you for the review. I think that the cooling problems / fan noise should not be written on AMDs check, as i think it's the coolers problem. With that said, going straight to 95C IS a weird/new behaviour. I have a x370 system started with 1700x. I'm going to build a new full amd system. I personally never had USB droppout problem. As for the momory... yikes. When it was new it bootlooped a lot back in the day. But bios updates solved it... would not have been good if i were professional at the time. Overall i think these are not issues not massive issues. I mean, when you comlain about fan noise, you know it's all good. BTW AMD nowhere advertises, that you can run 5600 memory with 4 dims :)
the 2 main issues (the temperatures and the USB disconnecting) have something in common I believe. First off, the thermal conditions inside the case just bad. Second of all, I believe the 7950x block was poorly installed, as its total power draw and heat output should be a lot lower then the 13900KS. Third, the USB disconnecting on Ryzen is a common issue when someone's OC isn't stable enough. Its not like it'll crash every day, but its hella annoying when stuff gets randomly disconnected. Might be due to 4 dimm 5600 mhz on his ram.
Brian, in regards to memory and stability, I have to ask. Have you updated the BIOS of your motherboard, the Gigabyte X670E Aorus Xtreme? You did not mention this in the video. The latest BIOS from what I see on Gigabyte's site is from the 19th of January 2023 and prior to that there were a lot of BIOS revisions which say to have "improved" memory compatibility. Besides that good review as always :D.
Still a great looking build. Many of those growing pains happen regardless of whether it's AMD or Intel. Super clean build and a beast of a system most of us will never be able to afford. Great video dude.
I have Intel i9-12900, AMD 5950X and AMD 7950X systems with Radeon & Nvidia cards. They all work about the same, no problems. I am using MSI boards in all builds however.
I like the pad on the desk move; i keep track of my benchmarks that way despite it being old school. i like to see how my pc is holding up and if it needs to be cleaned or how good the new driver is. Happy for the good gaming result i use 7700x 7900xtx for gaming this generation.

As a long time AMD user their hardware has ups and downs. I honestly believe their current ryzen series and Radeon series are rather poor. I i personally use 5600x and rx 6800xt. Super cool and stable system. Wouldn't touch new hardware with a stick doe. Professional work will always be worse. Software is built with nVidia in mind. Other than that honest video cheers
Really unfortunate and disappointing to hear about the RAM speeds. I've been holding my breath for 7800X3D reviews in the coming months because I was thinking about switching platforms for my next upgrade, but now I'm not so sure. Thank you for the excellent video and great review as always!
(31+ year IT pro here) Just research the RAM modules and recommended configs. I have many Intel and AMD builds with 4 stick RAM OCs with zero issues because I checked experts like Buildzoid for Motherboard Topology and RAM IC info first. The results in this video are not typical. He just got a bad sample / combo.

Brian thanks for 'highlighting' that windows 'sound' from my own observations it would seem that Windows, randomly updates AMD-related drivers and that can cause some issues, I had sent notice to AMD about this in the past, if you ever have the opportunity, check and see if those sounds are related to Windows drivers 'auto updating'.
Gaming without Ray-tracing isn't a little thing, it's huge downgrade. My big issue with AMD besides their GPUs aren't even close to Nvidia's are its drivers. I was torn for my personal build, but ended up with an RTX 4090, 4x16GB DDR5 @ 6200, 10TB of M.2s and an i9-13900K with a Corsair Flex monitor. CPU-Z HSGHTK Again, the torn part was Intel has no upgrade path. They're going to replace their socket, but with AMD over the next 3 or 4 years I could swap out a CPU. Then it occurred to me. That's not the path that I ever take. I always end up replacing everything, Well at least the core components CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, etc.
AMD configures and uses RAM differently from Intel. Wendel over on Level1Techs gave an overview for professionals and suggestions on how best to use the RAM essentially dual memory of 32Gb for 64Gb is currently the sweet spot but it defaults to JEDEC for 128Gb. As to GPU, Adobe's software is optimised for nVidia and puts AMD at a disadvantage, also the Radeon line isn't really for professional workloads as it's got a lot of the functionality cut out of it when they transitioned from GCN to RNDA, with CDNA being their professional line up. Even their professional cards despite being good value lack the full suite support of nVidia. This said, from experience AMD works decently if not great with DaVinci but software needs to catch up with the new features on board with RDNA 3 and that takes time to mature. Currently I prefer nVidia Professional cards such as the RTX A4000 series for professional work.
I’ve been switching between AMD, Cyrix, Intel processors over the past 25+ years and all have their quirks which the vast majority do get fixed 🧐😇👍. I am yet to experience any usb dropouts on any of my Ryzen builds on the Zen+ and newer cpu based motherboards 🧐🥳! (Currently using Ngreedia gpus in all my builds) I am in the process of putting together my new AM5 build, but I do feel that AMD has rushed its AM5 platform and RDNA3 architecture out before getting them properly optimised / kinks worked out but hopefully 🤞🤞they get their shit together and work on their issues and new drivers promptly! I am definitely thinking of my next build ….. down the road switing to Intels new architecture in 2024-25 which looks very good 💪💪 (even thou 13th gen is quite good to and can be greatly optimised to reduce heat output).
From one Brian to another. Hello! These are the kinds of videos people really should pay attention to. This is the real meat and potatoes of pc use. I have experienced most of what you have said with my system and it's fully last gen. I use a 5950X and a 6900xt. Desktop use is fine. Gaming is perfectly acceptable. Editing has some hiccups when the timeline gets a little complicated. The USB disconnect sound has mostly stopped. I do have a golden memory controller though and I am perfectly stable with 128gb of gskill trident z 3600 clocked at 3800 with a 1:1 ratio. I do editing on the side, but i'm sure to get flamed for so much ram haha. As far as your system and the noise goes. It feels like the motherboard manufacturers would have implemented different fan curves with the new philosophy from amd and their target for pushing 95C. It shouldn't be pushing fans in a system 100% for a targeted temperature. I'm glad ECO mode helped but the fan curves are still dumb. Anyways, thanks for the most realistic video i've seen in awhile and keep up the great work.
Nice. I got my 4x8GB G.skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200 CL14 (Samsung B-Die) to run at 3800 1:1 with tightened timings. Researching and choosing the right parts goes a long way to stability and performance.
I see you're using CableMod 12VHPWR cable for your GPU. Was that random crash associated with Event ID 41 and WHEA 17? There's a known issue with them. It'll cause lost video signal and you'll have to do a force shut down.
I have an x5900 CPU and a 3090. NEver had an issue, but then again, I don't do work on my computer. I did have issues with he G:Skill Neo ram set though. Got random blue screens and I never got it to run on 3600. Changed to some old 2666 vengeance I had laying around and not had a blue screen since. Not a fanboy though. I usually have an intel CPU after and AMD and I change them about every 4-5 years.
Just a heads up i can tell you what some of your issues were from its your 1000W PSU its laughable as this system needs a minimum of 1500W+ multi monitor setups draw additional power not listed sadly (This is what causes the USB disconnection issue as it cycles throw powering) as for RAM you need to find a MoBo that supports QUAD Channel at the speeds you require and i feel that it is a failure on your part due to lack of research NOT something you can blame AMD for! PLUS your cooler is bested by a DEEP COOL air cooler!? finally ECO mode / undervolting should be the first thing you setup... and FYI many software and gaming companies work with APPLE / Nvidia and are paid to focus on their support and stability as a priority over AMD!!.

Since when I game occasionally, I’m in 4k, I put my upgrade funds into a strix 4090 and kept my AM4 5950x and dark hero mb. Asus even did a new bios in February. I do have the ram rgb issue with my cl14 g skill neos, a reboot looses my color choice until I open the g skill rgb program as aura sync won’t fix the ram rgb. So glad I kept the 5950x.
Honestly everything sounds as a cooling problem, system making noise, running hot etc. My strix b650e board in a nr200 case with only a 240mm AIO runs just fine ( 7800x3d). I dont even have any chassis fans.
I am running a 7950x and a 7900xtx on a Asus x670e itx in a Jonsbo d30 case. Have an Asus Ryujin 240 mm with -15 curve optimized curve in bios and never go above 82 degrees, and it's quiet. It took me a week to get to there, but that's the point of building your own system and tailoring it to how you want it to run. I'm sure I would need to do the same with a 13900k and a 4090. EVGA is not AMD, so I feel you spent a little too much time on that as an AMD negative. Maybe I missed it, but is this the aio you use for your 13900k? If not, then you shouldn't have mentioned it at all. Overall, good stuff. First time seeing your videos. I would be interested in the numbers for rendering time and editing time 4090 vs. 7900xtx.
God daaaamn when i was about to purchase the pc parts for my future AM5 build... i found your video, damn it, now i'm all mixed feelings. Hurry up and publish the build you said with Ryzen cpu and Nvidia gpu, because i too would like to go that way, with a Ryzen 7900 and a 3070Ti (for the moment, no money for 4070Ti yet). Hurry up :)
AMD supports memory speeds up to DDR5-5200 anything above that is an overclock. Yes it should just work but everyone building PC's should be aware of the CPU vendors supported memory speeds because going over that you are getting into an area where you can have issues. I would never run over DDR5-5200 on an AMD 7xxx machine for professional use because stability can suffer.
Everyone like to pretend that AMD is more stable but it's simply not. Most people just blame windows and software because they don't own multiple setups to compare. I've had AMD drivers and Ryzen chipset drivers that come out a year or more after the hardware launched that cause issues. Ryzen released a driver for 3000 series CPUs to help with high power consumption at idle. This driver caused my PC to lockup at idle despite being able to game infinitely without issue. Rolled back and never used that driver again but that wouldn't have happened on Intel.
Fyi. To fix my G.Skill rgb boot issue I downloaded G.Skill rgb software. Set the color to what I wanted. That fix my dims the stayed the color I wanted.
Please, throw away these CLCs. Really. Use an air cooler or swap the fans. Most noise issues you have is due to poor selection of cooling components. Also the fact, that an all AMD system for your focus on specific software you use on a regular base, that is knowingly supportive for proprietary API/hardware, was a bad start of your project. So that the chosen hardware will not perform as smooth as an Intel+nVidia system should be obvious. That is the sad fact in professional applications for a decade. So that the hardware has to lift more, so being more under stress is normal. Would the software you use, support the APIs that are supported by the chosen hardware, it would be night and day. I know this 1st hand, since i work in a company that does a lot of CAD/CAE applications. The dominance of nVidida is unreal is this space. Thanks for doin this. Gives a hint for folks, what not to do. And also if you have a specific usecase in mind, your chosen hardware should reflect that. So goin all AMD for your usecase was not the best choice.
I will be honest, you have come across a bit unfair to this. You are running a system that most people would consider only "early adopters" would use. The new ADM Chip and Video card, well as DDR5 ram is begging for trouble out of the gate. I would never suggest version 1.0 of anything unless you are going to spend time yourself troubleshooting it for version 1.1 of the hardware. You did this honestly, in bad faith.
i mean cool, the 4090 although has a massive cooler compared to the reference xtx. Maby try one of the flaship 7900xtx's like the aorus elite, taichi, sapphire nitro, merc black edition. and the plugged in sounds is probably drivers being updated.
In my opinion its not completely fair to compair the 7900xtx with the 4090 in gpu related tasks and then give Intel the credits that it runs smoother. I think that that has nothing to with the processor just that the 4090 is much much more powerful than the 7900xtx. But AMD needs to adres there bios updated regarding weird bugs and memory support.

They ARE stable. He was using a unsupported ram config and the usb dropout has been fixed for awhile now. You just have to disable a single setting. Another thing is that ryzen 7000 was designed to run that hot. I’ve been daily driving a 7950x since launch day and I have yet to see a single crash/blue screen or sign of instability.

And if you undervolt the 7950X the performance loss is minimal, with the benefits of a cool and better power efficient system. 13900K has to use almost the DOUBLE of power in order to compete with the 7950X. Overall, how's been your experience? What motherboard are you using? Any breaking issues?
@@usr01 that sounds great mate! Yes, the Pro RS is one of the better deals, considering you get 5x M.2 slots, 6x SATA, 14+2 power, 8 layer PCB, and even front USB Type-C Gen2x2. Are you using it mostly for gaming or work? Are you satisfied with the performance?
that same "tickin" sound is in many fans... Corsair ML, Noctua Redux and older EK fans. that sound drives me crazy! :D its like a built in feature that comes right at the sweet spot of rpm when the fan is quiet and still moves some air to make sense.
Fan ticking noise - I am experiencing that on my Arctic P14 Slim fans if I set my fan curve above 80%. RADEON issues with Adobe Products - yes, this is a well known issue to any Adobe software. - In Photoshop to fix the zoom issue you need to tick "Deactivate Native Canvas". - In Premiere my previous saved projects from an NVIDIA GPU would crash Premiere on my AMD Radeon GPU (had a lot of "fun time" reimporting my projects to another project) - In Substance 3D Painter, I had to dynamically switch my 3D Model's rendering resolution between 2048 (while editing) to 4096 (while viewing) so that my GPU can keep up with my workflow. - The lack of CUDA in any Radeon GPU (even with CUDA Emulation), and since AMD is heavily focused on gaming more than production - they cannot provide any technology that can stand together Adobe's wonderful support for CUDA in any NVIDIA GPUs. - USB Dropout, this is happening to me on my 8BitDo Dongle which is annoying if you are playing something like Elden Ring. I had to switch my Gamepad to a Bluetooth just to avoid that from occuring again.
How is that cooler? That vs the new ek... leaning twords new wk as it seems to be new king very well may be first gen ish if evga cooler..... and did u change that setting to allow you to drop power by like 20% with almost no speed decrease
not even apples to apples gpus have to be the same and 4090 is like 2x the price and sounds like fan curve is set terrible and also cooler sounds janked but it did seem hot but should have changed thay
For the fan curve I would just limit it to something quiter like 50% max at 95c and let it become thermal throttled with pbo on auto, or change the ppt settings and use curve optimizer to get the same speed as stock without running at 95. If anything you can also change the thermal limit to 90/85, at a cost of slightly reducing performance it you don’t like seeing 95 on the sensor. The usb dropout issue is annoying especially when I put my pc to sleep and disconnects my audio interface
Nearly all the problems you've had with your AMD build other than memory speed I had with a few intel systemsas well , especially blue screens. My 4790k I went through 2 cpus 2 mobos and 8 sticks of memory trying to iron out that system. The USB thing was the worst and using a lot of different sd cards and USB drives would sometimes hard lock the system. Actully had a USB hub and a corsair mouse dongle that would not let my 8700k system boot(like bios hang not boot). On the flipside my 2700x NEVER crashed once in 4 years not one time and I know early on some people had a lot of problems with early Ryzen. I've had a intel 4590 running for years without a hitch. So it all depends on the combo of parts and software used.
Same. 31+ year IT veteran here and have seen all this on Intel as well, especially laptops. Also have multiple 4 stick RAM oc results with no issues on AMD. He just got a bad sample.

I've had a full AMD system for 3 years now and never had a single problem with it except the built-in armory crate software with my rgb fans but i fixed it eventually. I was so impressed by the bang for the buck with this system that i decided to upgrade and stay with AMD, and recently purchased an RX 7900 XTX, couldn't be happier.
Doesn't matter how big the AIO is these new chips will hit 95C no matter what the cooling solution you use .. You would know this watching REAL tech guys
Zen 4 is designed to run at 95c so it's always going to push the voltage to teach that level but if you have the fans set to near 100% at 90-95c that's user error as you could just set fam speed to 75-80% at 96c let it regulate itself with it's boosting profile. I didn't catch the start so assume the bios was flashed to the latest one as most these errors seem related to the board Vs amd which is a bit misleading. This would also help on ram stability but can be down to the CPU controller also . We all know the 13900k can pull 300w if it wants which is significantly more than the 7950x.
AMD processors always lock up my systems and always crashes or suffers from latency issues. That's why I'm going back to intel, Intel just works without any hiccups.
Funny. Never had the USB problem on any Ryzen system or fast RAM or timings. Have you tried other motherboards? I don't want to sound like a a hater but generally speaking I've found that ASUS, ASRock and MSI are much better with high-speed RAM with tight timings as well as stuff working. I've always had problems with Gigabyte boards be it intel or AMD they always seem to give me a headache with random crashes, RAM timing, random disconnects of wireless, ethernet, USB etc. Like my work rig right now has a 7950x with 64GB running at 6000 using trident z5 neo at 6000 with a timing of 30-40-40-96 using an Asus proart x670e and I've been using since basically launch and it has been rock solid. Zero crashes. No weird behavior. My only complaint is temps and the fans tend to be loud because of the temps. If it was my personal rig i would have delided it and done direct die cooling or lapped the IHS but it's not technically my own rig since i got it from work.
I have more respect for people who have issues with companies, than I do for fanboys, at least you have a legitimate reason for your bias. Currently using a Gigabyte mobo with an ASRock graphics card, no issues aside from the ASRock rgb software being ridiculously bad, but at least it can be set to no rgb and then uninstalled. Would never buy Asus, MSI, or Crucial anything due to previous issues with dodgy customer service.

Wow, you're nitpicking. But AM5 is very buggy and hotter than normal. My AM4 build is flawless. No issues there...ever! I don't stream or create content. It is a gaming beast with my R9 5900x and 6800xt! I really not going to upgrade to AM5. I just built another platform with a new 3080 10gb FE with Intel 13700kf. When it's time to update my Nvidia gpu then I will get a rtx 5080 and see how that works out. Using my Intel/Nvidia build for school work and content creation. Give it some more time. I think AM5 will mature within the next year! No heat and no fan noises, hopefully :D Great vid! Cheers, mate :D
G'day Brian, Awesome look at "Living with this PC for a month" as you are very good at conveying what your experience was like, just wondering if when you swap the GPU whether you plan to swap the CPU Cooler too? 🤔maybe an Arctic Freezer or another NON ASSTek based AIO. I will be looking forward to seeing Part 2 using AMD + nVIDIA, also just wondering if you will be up for a Part 3 using intel + AMD for the complete mix. Ps since swapping to AM4 for my gaming PC (MSI B450M Gaming Plus) & Editing PC (MSI X570Tomahawk) I have not encounted that "USB Dropout" problem.
Laughing along as I watched this. Had USB issues on my 3700x, thankfully the 5900x I have now doesn't suffer the same problem. The random aRGB freeze issues... Yup check. Get those. High temps? Noisy fans. Yup that's my experience too. Spot on vid and mirrors my own experience. Had my AMD build for 3 years and it has just been niggle after niggle.
Just built my first pc since 2001. Hyte y60 case/7950x/7900xtx/ddr-5 32g 6000/ASUS x670e-e & have loved it. Runs like a top, get more fps on warzone2 than my buddy with a 4090 (I’m fully aware amd cards play nicer with that title) & have had basically zero issues. Just get on and game/dick around.
My 7700x build is super quite. Corsair 7000d artic liquid freezer 2 360 and all artic p12 fans. Sit around 60c gaming. Around 50 watching video. And have only climbed to 95c when I benchmark it on cinebench.
I hope you see this message as it can help you fix some of the problems you had with the build.
The USB dropout bug is easy to fix.
Go to Settings -> System -> Power & Sleep -> Additional power settings -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> USB Settings -> USB selective suspended setting -> set it to Disabled.
as for the RAM issue... not every motherboard can push 6000mhz with 4 sticks and dual channel.
PS: just checked the official X670E AORUS XTREME (rev. 1.0) motherboard Memory Support List and 4 sticks 6000mhz with that ram is not officially supported. All I could see is that with 4 sticks of ram everything over 4800mhz is considered "memory oc" for that board.

This is actually not a new issue. We had to do this on all our Intel based Dell laptops for the past 10+ years or so because of end user complaints. Thankfully it was an easy fix.
Great post, I usually like this guys reviews but this one was bad. This video showed a lack of experience and willingness to optimize with AMD products to properly give a review.
Some of the negatives have nothing to do with it being an AMD system. Such as the noise and the ticking from the EVGA fans. But otherwise interesting review.
Well, AMD did decide to have their CPUs always push to 95°C on basically any workload. No fan in the world is going to take that with silence. It's an AMD problem IMO. They're boosting way too hard for what it's worth. Just turning on Eco mode and setting the max to about half your CPU's TDP solves the problem really well though. GN did a great piece on performance/power consumption with eco mode, it was 96% of power at half the consumption.

Have to agree with you on this one, crappy fans on an AIO should not impact your thoughts on the parts you are testing, they could have just as easily crapped out on an intel rig

@@bronsondixon4747 you do. There's nothing that can control 12900k/13900k. Literally all reviews mention this. Most of them reviewed it with a 360mil AIOs as well.
i understand you faults but idk if i could blame them on a full amd setup. i too myself edit and code a lot on my amd setup and have never reached anywhere near 90c doing anything. albeit my main is custom looped and my second am5 setup is using a 280 aio.
gigabyte software is trash but still better than asrocks and Amory crate software always reverts the lighting when it needs to be updated.
lastly, i fully recommend switching to Davinci Resolve: its free and a lot of the plugins you're already used to will work in it. i then use the Affinity suite instead of anything adobe. Why pay that adobe fee?

@Neggy-Z I mean fans running at 100% because the CPU is constantly pushing temps doesn't seem like the AIOs fault though. Sure, different fans at 100% would be quieter but they're still loud. Perhaps, the Intel system also pushes 90°C+ during content creation/gaming/general use?
It's weird how a power user listing issues that have nothing to do with the title of the video, the AIO noise levels are not to be blamed on AMD nor EVGA (thought their cooler is loud) because the cooler doesn't know that the CPU is designed to shoot to 95C under load...
The RAM issues could be solved via a Bios update (if available) or running high density dual 32GB sticks, pretty sure that may iron out the issue (still it needs to be tested)
I feel like you could use more time and tweaks to get the most out of this system then try giving an honest impressions about it.
If a PC crashes randomly one time per month, that's one time too many. As much as I hate to say it, Intel/Nvidia is still the better choice for a stable trouble-free system.
I've been on a full time AMD system for a year. Had a few random crashes while gaming but always hard to tell if it was the game or not. I mainly game outside of simple MS Office stuff. B550 motherboard and 4 slots of 8GB DDR4 3600 CL16 RAM and a 5800X recently changed out to a 5800X3D and a 6800XT GPU. Really no issues TBH but I do not do professional video editing so thanks for looking into that. Always been fast and solid for the most part here at least but I am on last gen.
AM4 is a much stable platform, with AM5 you have to take some risks when you build an AM5 PC.
Yeah I have a x570 Velocita mobo by AsRock, 4 x8gb Corsair Vengeance rgb (32gb) ddr4 3600 cl16 RAM with a Sapphire Nitro + 6800xt. And I agree, no issues since 12/21. I have done minor editing but no problems there. It's been rock hard solid in gaming. No issues with RT other than it kills the fps. RT looks good! But it would do better on my RTX 3080 FE. And I don't think AM5 is good enough to upgrade to. So many problems right now. I can't believe AMD let this happen! Give it a year and see how drivers and improvements are. Age like fine wine I hope. RTX 4090 will probably still be dominating. AMD, don't give it up! The fight ain't over! So step up or roll over and die! LOL :D
I'm a new enthusiast and leaning new things everyday. I just wanted to say that I'm running 4 dimms on am5 7700x at 6000 with no issues at all. I don't know if it has anything to do with my setup but I did by accident buy G skill non neo, xmp version cl 36, 36, 36, 96. All in all my system is like yours and AMD build I too have the 7900xtx and I love my build!
It's most likely your motherboard. You probably got a better one.
From my experience, when using AMD Ryzen based systems, when you start having USB controller disconnects, it means that your CPU/Memory OC/Settings aren't truly stable.
I'm curious if you went to full auto, albeit slower, would it become stable...
For the RGB issue, see if you have a hardware lighting profile for your RAM. I had the same issue with my Corsair RGB, but once I changed the hardware lighting profile in icue my RGB doesn't revert back to rainbow when icue isn't running.
2:59 - "This has been true for AMD for quite some time. ...doesn't play nice with 4 dimms..." Maybe you had some issues with this CPU + RAM. But that's a pretty sweeping generalization that contradicts my observations. So I will share them.
With 31+ years experience in IT, I've done MANY AM2, AM3, AM4 and now AM5 builds over the past 15+ years. Whether 2 or 4 DIMMS, overclocked or not, tightened timings or not, I have NEVER...not ONCE in 100+ AMD and Intel builds...failed to get the RAM to run at the advertised speeds. This is VERY RARE for both AMD and Intel systems, and does not represent the pattern of reliability that I have experienced with AMD. Hope you have better luck next time.

Lucky you, then.... 🤥 From my experience, I couldn't get to run my DDR-4 RipJaws V 4x8 GB kit to run at rated 3200 MHz speed on my MSI KRAIT Gaming X370 mobo with an older R7-1700X CPU, no matter what. Constant system crashes and BSOD's were driving me nuts for months. 😵💫Only 2933 MHz speed was stable. When I upgraded CPU to R7-3800X, system finally, could run stable with no problems.😅
@meowquise Wrong. You have been misinformed, sir. For example, 4 slots of RAM is peak performance on AM4, especially if using a matched set of high quality modules such as Samsung B-Die. I also have had great success overclocking low voltage Samsung DDR3 on AM3 platforms. For example I had a 4x2GB G.Skill ECO 1600 kit to run at 2100 on 1.53v with both Phenom II and FX CPUs. All that matters is whether your motherboard uses a Daisy Chain or T-topology RAM slot config. This affects the overclocks and timings you can expect.

I have a x370 system started with 1700x. I'm going to build a new full amd system. I personally never had USB droppout problem. As for the momory... yikes. When it was new it bootlooped a lot back in the day. But bios updates solved it... would not have been good if i were professional at the time.
Overall i think these are not issues not massive issues. I mean, when you comlain about fan noise, you know it's all good. BTW AMD nowhere advertises, that you can run 5600 memory with 4 dims :)
the 2 main issues (the temperatures and the USB disconnecting) have something in common I believe. First off, the thermal conditions inside the case just bad. Second of all, I believe the 7950x block was poorly installed, as its total power draw and heat output should be a lot lower then the 13900KS. Third, the USB disconnecting on Ryzen is a common issue when someone's OC isn't stable enough. Its not like it'll crash every day, but its hella annoying when stuff gets randomly disconnected. Might be due to 4 dimm 5600 mhz on his ram.

Have you updated the BIOS of your motherboard, the Gigabyte X670E Aorus Xtreme? You did not mention this in the video.
The latest BIOS from what I see on Gigabyte's site is from the 19th of January 2023 and prior to that there were a lot of BIOS revisions which say to have "improved" memory compatibility.

I have Intel i9-12900, AMD 5950X and AMD 7950X systems with Radeon & Nvidia cards. They all work about the same, no problems. I am using MSI boards in all builds however.
AMD drivers tend to get massively better over time, so I hope most of these problems will be fixed...

As a long time AMD user their hardware has ups and downs. I honestly believe their current ryzen series and Radeon series are rather poor. I i personally use 5600x and rx 6800xt. Super cool and stable system. Wouldn't touch new hardware with a stick doe. Professional work will always be worse. Software is built with nVidia in mind. Other than that honest video cheers

Just use 2 dimms instead of 4. This is what's officially supported and allows you to run high speed ram no problem

(31+ year IT pro here) Just research the RAM modules and recommended configs. I have many Intel and AMD builds with 4 stick RAM OCs with zero issues because I checked experts like Buildzoid for Motherboard Topology and RAM IC info first. The results in this video are not typical. He just got a bad sample / combo.

Brian thanks for 'highlighting' that windows 'sound' from my own observations it would seem that Windows, randomly updates AMD-related drivers and that can cause some issues, I had sent notice to AMD about this in the past, if you ever have the opportunity, check and see if those sounds are related to Windows drivers 'auto updating'.

Gaming without Ray-tracing isn't a little thing, it's huge downgrade. My big issue with AMD besides their GPUs aren't even close to Nvidia's are its drivers. I was torn for my personal build, but ended up with an RTX 4090, 4x16GB DDR5 @ 6200, 10TB of M.2s and an i9-13900K with a Corsair Flex monitor. CPU-Z HSGHTK Again, the torn part was Intel has no upgrade path. They're going to replace their socket, but with AMD over the next 3 or 4 years I could swap out a CPU. Then it occurred to me. That's not the path that I ever take. I always end up replacing everything, Well at least the core components CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, etc.
AMD configures and uses RAM differently from Intel. Wendel over on Level1Techs gave an overview for professionals and suggestions on how best to use the RAM essentially dual memory of 32Gb for 64Gb is currently the sweet spot but it defaults to JEDEC for 128Gb. As to GPU, Adobe's software is optimised for nVidia and puts AMD at a disadvantage, also the Radeon line isn't really for professional workloads as it's got a lot of the functionality cut out of it when they transitioned from GCN to RNDA, with CDNA being their professional line up. Even their professional cards despite being good value lack the full suite support of nVidia. This said, from experience AMD works decently if not great with DaVinci but software needs to catch up with the new features on board with RDNA 3 and that takes time to mature. Currently I prefer nVidia Professional cards such as the RTX A4000 series for professional work.
I’ve been switching between AMD, Cyrix, Intel processors over the past 25+ years and all have their quirks which the vast majority do get fixed 🧐😇👍. I am yet to experience any usb dropouts on any of my Ryzen builds on the Zen+ and newer cpu based motherboards 🧐🥳! (Currently using Ngreedia gpus in all my builds) I am in the process of putting together my new AM5 build, but I do feel that AMD has rushed its AM5 platform and RDNA3 architecture out before getting them properly optimised / kinks worked out but hopefully 🤞🤞they get their shit together and work on their issues and new drivers promptly! I am definitely thinking of my next build ….. down the road switing to Intels new architecture in 2024-25 which looks very good 💪💪 (even thou 13th gen is quite good to and can be greatly optimised to reduce heat output).

These are the kinds of videos people really should pay attention to. This is the real meat and potatoes of pc use. I have experienced most of what you have said with my system and it's fully last gen. I use a 5950X and a 6900xt. Desktop use is fine. Gaming is perfectly acceptable. Editing has some hiccups when the timeline gets a little complicated. The USB disconnect sound has mostly stopped. I do have a golden memory controller though and I am perfectly stable with 128gb of gskill trident z 3600 clocked at 3800 with a 1:1 ratio. I do editing on the side, but i'm sure to get flamed for so much ram haha.
As far as your system and the noise goes. It feels like the motherboard manufacturers would have implemented different fan curves with the new philosophy from amd and their target for pushing 95C. It shouldn't be pushing fans in a system 100% for a targeted temperature. I'm glad ECO mode helped but the fan curves are still dumb. Anyways, thanks for the most realistic video i've seen in awhile and keep up the great work.
Nice. I got my 4x8GB G.skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200 CL14 (Samsung B-Die) to run at 3800 1:1 with tightened timings. Researching and choosing the right parts goes a long way to stability and performance.
I see you're using CableMod 12VHPWR cable for your GPU. Was that random crash associated with Event ID 41 and WHEA 17? There's a known issue with them. It'll cause lost video signal and you'll have to do a force shut down.
I have an x5900 CPU and a 3090. NEver had an issue, but then again, I don't do work on my computer. I did have issues with he G:Skill Neo ram set though. Got random blue screens and I never got it to run on 3600. Changed to some old 2666 vengeance I had laying around and not had a blue screen since. Not a fanboy though. I usually have an intel CPU after and AMD and I change them about every 4-5 years.
Just a heads up i can tell you what some of your issues were from its your 1000W PSU its laughable as this system needs a minimum of 1500W+ multi monitor setups draw additional power not listed sadly (This is what causes the USB disconnection issue as it cycles throw powering) as for RAM you need to find a MoBo that supports QUAD Channel at the speeds you require and i feel that it is a failure on your part due to lack of research NOT something you can blame AMD for! PLUS your cooler is bested by a DEEP COOL air cooler!? finally ECO mode / undervolting should be the first thing you setup... and FYI many software and gaming companies work with APPLE / Nvidia and are paid to focus on their support and stability as a priority over AMD!!.

Since when I game occasionally, I’m in 4k, I put my upgrade funds into a strix 4090 and kept my AM4 5950x and dark hero mb. Asus even did a new bios in February. I do have the ram rgb issue with my cl14 g skill neos, a reboot looses my color choice until I open the g skill rgb program as aura sync won’t fix the ram rgb. So glad I kept the 5950x.
Honestly everything sounds as a cooling problem, system making noise, running hot etc. My strix b650e board in a nr200 case with only a 240mm AIO runs just fine ( 7800x3d). I dont even have any chassis fans.
I am running a 7950x and a 7900xtx on a Asus x670e itx in a Jonsbo d30 case. Have an Asus Ryujin 240 mm with -15 curve optimized curve in bios and never go above 82 degrees, and it's quiet. It took me a week to get to there, but that's the point of building your own system and tailoring it to how you want it to run. I'm sure I would need to do the same with a 13900k and a 4090. EVGA is not AMD, so I feel you spent a little too much time on that as an AMD negative. Maybe I missed it, but is this the aio you use for your 13900k? If not, then you shouldn't have mentioned it at all. Overall, good stuff. First time seeing your videos. I would be interested in the numbers for rendering time and editing time 4090 vs. 7900xtx.

AMD supports memory speeds up to DDR5-5200 anything above that is an overclock. Yes it should just work but everyone building PC's should be aware of the CPU vendors supported memory speeds because going over that you are getting into an area where you can have issues. I would never run over DDR5-5200 on an AMD 7xxx machine for professional use because stability can suffer.
Everyone like to pretend that AMD is more stable but it's simply not. Most people just blame windows and software because they don't own multiple setups to compare. I've had AMD drivers and Ryzen chipset drivers that come out a year or more after the hardware launched that cause issues. Ryzen released a driver for 3000 series CPUs to help with high power consumption at idle. This driver caused my PC to lockup at idle despite being able to game infinitely without issue. Rolled back and never used that driver again but that wouldn't have happened on Intel.
Fyi. To fix my G.Skill rgb boot issue I downloaded G.Skill rgb software. Set the color to what I wanted. That fix my dims the stayed the color I wanted.
Please, throw away these CLCs. Really. Use an air cooler or swap the fans. Most noise issues you have is due to poor selection of cooling components. Also the fact, that an all AMD system for your focus on specific software you use on a regular base, that is knowingly supportive for proprietary API/hardware, was a bad start of your project. So that the chosen hardware will not perform as smooth as an Intel+nVidia system should be obvious. That is the sad fact in professional applications for a decade. So that the hardware has to lift more, so being more under stress is normal. Would the software you use, support the APIs that are supported by the chosen hardware, it would be night and day. I know this 1st hand, since i work in a company that does a lot of CAD/CAE applications. The dominance of nVidida is unreal is this space. Thanks for doin this. Gives a hint for folks, what not to do. And also if you have a specific usecase in mind, your chosen hardware should reflect that. So goin all AMD for your usecase was not the best choice.
I will be honest, you have come across a bit unfair to this. You are running a system that most people would consider only "early adopters" would use.
The new ADM Chip and Video card, well as DDR5 ram is begging for trouble out of the gate. I would never suggest version 1.0 of anything unless you are going to spend time yourself troubleshooting it for version 1.1 of the hardware.

i mean cool, the 4090 although has a massive cooler compared to the reference xtx. Maby try one of the flaship 7900xtx's like the aorus elite, taichi, sapphire nitro, merc black edition.

In my opinion its not completely fair to compair the 7900xtx with the 4090 in gpu related tasks and then give Intel the credits that it runs smoother. I think that that has nothing to with the processor just that the 4090 is much much more powerful than the 7900xtx. But AMD needs to adres there bios updated regarding weird bugs and memory support.

They ARE stable. He was using a unsupported ram config and the usb dropout has been fixed for awhile now. You just have to disable a single setting. Another thing is that ryzen 7000 was designed to run that hot. I’ve been daily driving a 7950x since launch day and I have yet to see a single crash/blue screen or sign of instability.

And if you undervolt the 7950X the performance loss is minimal, with the benefits of a cool and better power efficient system. 13900K has to use almost the DOUBLE of power in order to compete with the 7950X. Overall, how's been your experience? What motherboard are you using? Any breaking issues?

that same "tickin" sound is in many fans... Corsair ML, Noctua Redux and older EK fans. that sound drives me crazy! :D its like a built in feature that comes right at the sweet spot of rpm when the fan is quiet and still moves some air to make sense.

Fan ticking noise - I am experiencing that on my Arctic P14 Slim fans if I set my fan curve above 80%.
RADEON issues with Adobe Products - yes, this is a well known issue to any Adobe software.
- In Photoshop to fix the zoom issue you need to tick "Deactivate Native Canvas".
- In Premiere my previous saved projects from an NVIDIA GPU would crash Premiere on my AMD Radeon GPU (had a lot of "fun time" reimporting my projects to another project)
- In Substance 3D Painter, I had to dynamically switch my 3D Model's rendering resolution between 2048 (while editing) to 4096 (while viewing) so that my GPU can keep up with my workflow.
- The lack of CUDA in any Radeon GPU (even with CUDA Emulation), and since AMD is heavily focused on gaming more than production - they cannot provide any technology that can stand together Adobe's wonderful support for CUDA in any NVIDIA GPUs.
- USB Dropout, this is happening to me on my 8BitDo Dongle which is annoying if you are playing something like Elden Ring. I had to switch my Gamepad to a Bluetooth just to avoid that from occuring again.
I've been running a 7900 xtx and a 5800X3D without a hickup. Zero thermal issues but i also use noctua fans and a cpu cooler. Get gud i guess?

For the fan curve I would just limit it to something quiter like 50% max at 95c and let it become thermal throttled with pbo on auto, or change the ppt settings and use curve optimizer to get the same speed as stock without running at 95. If anything you can also change the thermal limit to 90/85, at a cost of slightly reducing performance it you don’t like seeing 95 on the sensor.
The usb dropout issue is annoying especially when I put my pc to sleep and disconnects my audio interface

Nearly all the problems you've had with your AMD build other than memory speed I had with a few intel systemsas well , especially blue screens. My 4790k I went through 2 cpus 2 mobos and 8 sticks of memory trying to iron out that system. The USB thing was the worst and using a lot of different sd cards and USB drives would sometimes hard lock the system. Actully had a USB hub and a corsair mouse dongle that would not let my 8700k system boot(like bios hang not boot). On the flipside my 2700x NEVER crashed once in 4 years not one time and I know early on some people had a lot of problems with early Ryzen. I've had a intel 4590 running for years without a hitch. So it all depends on the combo of parts and software used.
Same. 31+ year IT veteran here and have seen all this on Intel as well, especially laptops. Also have multiple 4 stick RAM oc results with no issues on AMD. He just got a bad sample.

I've had a full AMD system for 3 years now and never had a single problem with it except the built-in armory crate software with my rgb fans but i fixed it eventually.
I was so impressed by the bang for the buck with this system that i decided to upgrade and stay with AMD, and recently purchased an RX 7900 XTX, couldn't be happier.
armory crate is not an amd product it is asus's software

The 7950X is a really hot chip... I'm surprised that AIO wasn't enough Brian.
Doesn't matter how big the AIO is these new chips will hit 95C no matter what the cooling solution you use .. You would know this watching REAL tech guys
Zen 4 is designed to run at 95c so it's always going to push the voltage to teach that level but if you have the fans set to near 100% at 90-95c that's user error as you could just set fam speed to 75-80% at 96c let it regulate itself with it's boosting profile.
I didn't catch the start so assume the bios was flashed to the latest one as most these errors seem related to the board Vs amd which is a bit misleading. This would also help on ram stability but can be down to the CPU controller also .
We all know the 13900k can pull 300w if it wants which is significantly more than the 7950x.

AMD processors always lock up my systems and always crashes or suffers from latency issues. That's why I'm going back to intel, Intel just works without any hiccups.

Funny. Never had the USB problem on any Ryzen system or fast RAM or timings. Have you tried other motherboards? I don't want to sound like a a hater but generally speaking I've found that ASUS, ASRock and MSI are much better with high-speed RAM with tight timings as well as stuff working. I've always had problems with Gigabyte boards be it intel or AMD they always seem to give me a headache with random crashes, RAM timing, random disconnects of wireless, ethernet, USB etc. Like my work rig right now has a 7950x with 64GB running at 6000 using trident z5 neo at 6000 with a timing of 30-40-40-96 using an Asus proart x670e and I've been using since basically launch and it has been rock solid. Zero crashes. No weird behavior. My only complaint is temps and the fans tend to be loud because of the temps. If it was my personal rig i would have delided it and done direct die cooling or lapped the IHS but it's not technically my own rig since i got it from work.
I have more respect for people who have issues with companies, than I do for fanboys, at least you have a legitimate reason for your bias. Currently using a Gigabyte mobo with an ASRock graphics card, no issues aside from the ASRock rgb software being ridiculously bad, but at least it can be set to no rgb and then uninstalled. Would never buy Asus, MSI, or Crucial anything due to previous issues with dodgy customer service.

Wow, you're nitpicking. But AM5 is very buggy and hotter than normal. My AM4 build is flawless. No issues there...ever! I don't stream or create content. It is a gaming beast with my R9 5900x and 6800xt! I really not going to upgrade to AM5. I just built another platform with a new 3080 10gb FE with Intel 13700kf. When it's time to update my Nvidia gpu then I will get a rtx 5080 and see how that works out. Using my Intel/Nvidia build for school work and content creation. Give it some more time. I think AM5 will mature within the next year! No heat and no fan noises, hopefully :D Great vid! Cheers, mate :D

Ps since swapping to AM4 for my gaming PC (MSI B450M Gaming Plus) & Editing PC (MSI X570Tomahawk) I have not encounted that "USB Dropout" problem.

Laughing along as I watched this. Had USB issues on my 3700x, thankfully the 5900x I have now doesn't suffer the same problem. The random aRGB freeze issues... Yup check. Get those. High temps? Noisy fans. Yup that's my experience too. Spot on vid and mirrors my own experience. Had my AMD build for 3 years and it has just been niggle after niggle.
Just built my first pc since 2001. Hyte y60 case/7950x/7900xtx/ddr-5 32g 6000/ASUS x670e-e & have loved it. Runs like a top, get more fps on warzone2 than my buddy with a 4090 (I’m fully aware amd cards play nicer with that title) & have had basically zero issues. Just get on and game/dick around.
My 7700x build is super quite. Corsair 7000d artic liquid freezer 2 360 and all artic p12 fans. Sit around 60c gaming. Around 50 watching video. And have only climbed to 95c when I benchmark it on cinebench.
