Three on Three: Debating The Best Titanium Watches Under $10,000
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 жов 2024
- For this edition of Three on Three, we're talking titanium. With so many titanium watches available, we wanted to narrow it down a bit. So Tony, Brandon, and Jonathan picked three very different titanium watches under $10,000 and debated their respective merits: the Tudor Pelagos 39, Grand Seiko SBGA 211 "Snowflake," and the Zenith Defy Revival Shadow. With prices ranging from $4,700 to $7,400, each offers a unique take on titanium that feels true to the brand's identity.

Finally proof of life from Brandon! We need three on three chronos under $8,000
He’s no longer with the big H 😢 this was filmed a while back ago. I hope he drops some more content on his personal channel!
i prefer a study on chronos over $100,000
Brandon is a man of the people! I would have picked GS too
Bring more of these Three On Three! They're really unique
The zenith is really badass looking. Something rebellious about this particular sand blasted finish on this model
Let's see Brandon more often! I always enjoy seeing him and his take on different watches.
This is cool. I'm glad the series was brought back to life.
the Omega No Time to Die is missing guys
That would be 4 on 4…
Gotta have the Omega NTTD on this list but liking the content
The Zenith captured my attention over the others immediately.
Grand Seiko pulls at my heart and appreciation of quality engineering - and innovation!
I enjoyed the humorous competition angle of this. Keep up the great content!
I think i’d go with Tudor followed very close by Grand Seiko. As much as i love Zenith and that particular watch the Grand Seiko finishing is unmatched and the pelagos is just a perfect medium. I don’t know if i’m being weird here but the pelagos always felt like a modern recreation of the ‘red sub’. Which is awesome.
GS all day long out of these three. If I wanted a sportier Ti dive watch, however, I'd get the GS SBGA463
My only issue with it is it really looks like a citizen
I would choose the GS Snowflake…just for the beautiful dial.
If it had a hint of lume, I could see the snowflake being “the” everything watch. Sporty, dressy, and everyday utility.
@@henrymonster9926
I rarely see a benefit with lume. I had a watch with tritium tubes and it was more useful. When it’s dark, lume fades rather quickly and I can rarely see it after dark.
Give me that GS Snowflake any day of the week 😍
I love the look of the Pelagos. Wish they made one in that size with a date
‘Lightness’ is not why I buy titanium watches. I’m mostly trying to get away from ‘shine.’
Love these vids. Great selection of watches and interesting talk. Keep it up guys, happy weekend to you and everyone who’s reading this. Cheers.
Grade 2 titanium on a Tudor is actually difficult to accept. You find those on $400 Zelos. Surely they could have made it Grade 5 for the price.
Exactly! Titanium is no longer an exotic premium watch material only found on high end luxury watches. San Martin made a beautiful grade 5 Titanium Submariner homage for under $400!
Comparing zelos to Tudor is ridiculous. Type 2 is excellent for mid range. Only top luxury use grade 5, and only 1 company uses higher than that. But there are always those people who expect to get something 10x the quality of what they can afford.
@@bdegrds I'm only talking about the grade of the titanium relation to price. Couldn't have cost them significantly more for the Grade 5 I imagine.
@@minibus1351it’s not the material that’s the issue, it’s the specialised tooling and how wearing titanium is on them. Grade 2 is much harder wearing than steel and grade 5 much more than that.
Grade 2 is pure titanium and grade 5 is an alloy, so there’s extra costs in the metallurgy of that too 😊
Grade 5 isn’t even pure titanium
Didn’t realize Brandon was still part of the team?
Also Tag solargraph is surely the most appealing Ti watch on the market!
lol hodinkke purposely put him in the video as proof of life for the subscribers
I honestly love the Solargraph, albeit in steel and pvd more. I also wish it was slightly larger (like the Night Diver), but I get small is in right now. I just don't think it needs to be the only option, and especially for divers.
Waiting for a Solarbeat Santos.
The Zenith is just so unique, got to see it today, really classy yet eccentric
I just really love the look of Zenith watches. Titanium or not. That’s just a great looking watch. 😊
You're killing me with shots of 3 watches all with out of sync seconds hands!
Great video, OCD aside. :)
Zenith wins for me for the unique styling...Few do titanium better than Zenith
Great episode. I like this 3 on 3 concept
The 39 for me is the clear winner!
Another alternative on the cheap side could be the Hamilton Khaki in titanium! Swiss Made, 38mm and plenty of options
Staying cheap but quality, Boderry voyager, 40mm, sapphire crystal, screwdown stamped crown, with seiko nh35. All titanium.
The pelagos 39 is just killer
I still think the Aqua Terra GoodPlanet is one of the best, but I can’t tell if it’s discontinued or if they just don’t make too many of them.
The tag heuer titanium Solargraph is my fave!
From a GS fan...this zenith 😌😵
I do enjoy these. I'd go with the Pelagos 39. Most affordable, and most versatile. You can wear it downhill skiing, and to apres ski, and it would fit in perfectly. Can't really say that about the other two.
I had the 2021 Tudor Pelagos new and on the 3rd day a black ring on the bezel fell of just by turning. It gave me a bed felling from then on. I sold it after a year because it was also to thick.
The GS is the highest quality of these hands down. Artisan dial, external finishing, top materials, best movement. Mine is like +3 seconds per month, which is pretty average for them.
My Pelagos 39 is currently running +4 seconds a day lol
I like the Grand Seiko movement/durability(?), and the finish when it's brand new, but you also have to account for wear on the polishing. I like a worn watch, but when you're paying for that Zaratsu Polishing hype, there's more bite to the acceptance of everyday wear. IMO, at least.
Stoked that you gave Citizen a shoutout for being one of the first to make a Titanium watch. Citizen gets overlooked but they have some great Titanium options.
Ti is amazing, my Seiko Astron disappears on my wrist. Love it.
5:40 pure coping there for the Pelagos 🤣that's like saying you have an inferior paint job on a luxury vehicle and you're happy to see imperfections come through the paint as you put miles on
The Chopard Mille Miglia in titanium with the carbon fiber dial is lovely….and attainable used in the $2500 range.
Some good pieces, I'd definitely be torn between the Tudor and the GS. Also, awesome seeing my buddy Brandon on 🙌. We need more Brandon!
Longines Spirit in Ti rocks.
The days of Titanium being a premium watch material only used on high end luxury watches are long gone. It's the same way with meteorite dials. There are so many great affordable Titanium watches available now. $10,000 is ridiculous! How about a thousand dollars or less.
Immediately thought this would be a killer 3 watch rotation, and I’d ❤️ to own any of these. The GS has the best execution overall ( titanium is very difficult to zaratzu polish), the Defy’s a unique wildcard, and the Tudor is a great all around, wear; probably the most “ beater” of the 3. Makes sense, since it’s also the least expensive.
And it should be. Tudor’s a quality, chronometer certified watch, but it’s made by robots. I know that Spring Drive can be a bit divisive, but it is a hand assembled movement that is frictionless, far more durable, and super accurate at +/- 10 to 15 a month. As a daily wear,I also think the GS is the most versatile of the trio.
For my $ , at under 10K I’d rather go with/the GS Mistflake from the Evolution 9 collection , or its black dial sibling ( SBGE 285, SBGE 283 respectively). $8400 is up there, but you really get so much more.
Btw, the Zenith Shadow Chronograph is also my favorite from this legendary, yet somewhat unappreciated brand.
More episodes like this please!
Nice vid gents! I actually liked their chemistry a lot!
I miss Brandon's videos so much! Love this man!
Zenith is so cool!
I love the Zenith! Didn't know it existed before this review. The bracelet isn't my thing, but the rest is really sharp.
Am I crazy for thinking that almost noone would actually go for the Zenith here? Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad watch, but it is hard to justify the price point.
I think the Defy's competition is the Chronomaster Shadow Revival (or is it Revival Shadow?). I'd take that over any of these three... but I'd probably take an IWC Pilot Performance Chrono over that.
It's expensive, but I LOVE that finish on it
Just ordered the GS from Exquisite Timpeieces!!! So excited to get it!!
I’d go with the Zenith for uniqueness.
That Zenith is a gorgeous
Jonathan deserves more credit here, let's see more of him please! Didn't y'all just release a grade 5 titanium watch well below 5k tho.. 👀
I'm curious about the claim at 5:12 that the bead blasted Zenith would be the easist to renish. How many people can microblast the case at home or a jeweler vs. something like the brushed Tudor which could very easily be touched up at home or at any competent jeweler.
i would toss the Tag Aquaracer Bamford in the mix. All ti, can be had for sub $4k. limited if you like to geek out of that
Surprised no mention of the Speedmaster HB-SIA. You get the iconic Speedmaster design in titanium and carbon fiber, they are sorely underpriced and somewhat limited in production. No one seems to know about them.
Three great watches.. I have to back my Pelagos in this competition, but the snowflake may be the next watch i buy!
Good topic. I have a soft spot for the Pelagos but i'd rather go for GS for finishing, accuracy.
I would certainly not go for the Zenith for it's bracelet, its design and brand image.
GS is more classy, Zénith is only good for chronomaster and Pelagos 42 would be better for like a daily tank.
No guitar more iconic than a Squier right? The Squier Strat definitely doesn't make you wish you had something else, thats why I love Tudor so much because it means there's definitely nothing else I'd rather have if I'm wearing a Tudor. Like the clothes and purses from the "V" collection released at big box stores with only half the medusa head on it, definitely not riding the coattails of something else trying to be something it's not. Love the Zenith, love the GS.
we really need more 3 on 3
Love these series!
I like them all! GS, Zenith, then Tudor in order of preference but I’d add 226627 to the head of the line :-)
A true dive watch like the Pelagos doesn't need a date complication.
All are nice watches, the 37mm is too small for my wrist and taste so that would be out. I'm a seiko fan and most of my watches have Japanese movements so the GS would be my overall choice, due to size and looks. The Tudor is a nice watch and i would buy over a rolex, especially since it's their sister brand without the rolex price tag.
Tony Traina droppin’ the “give us a quick opening statement…” ie callback to his attorney days 🤓
Is Tony Traina the modern day Stephen Pulvirent ?
Snowflake & Pelagos are on my list
I miss this series!
Zenith all day long
Snowflake is the most beautiful but their bracelets are garbage.
Suddenly feel out on a limb reading these comments, but the P39 is as close to a perfect one watch as I’ve ever come across
Zenith
for me the Tudor Pelagos 39 is an all classic and beautifull
How would Mido’s Ocean Star 200C Titanium version compare to these?
I love watches and I love Rolex and GS except for their bracelets. I have to say the best titanium watch is my G-shock MRG B5000B1 black square. I know it’s digital, but you can’t beat their titanium bracelet and case. For a Japanese brand GS should learn from Casio on how to make a great bracelet
Better than Talking watches dare I say
Tudor takes the cake for me. It does everything the other watches do and is truly timeless. The GS is timeless too, but Japanese Dad timeless.....idk if its as universal. The Zenith is too out there and the single finishing makes it come off cheaper than it is imo
If the GS had a hint of lume, it would be perfect for me.
great watch content!!!
good video! Pelagos would be my choice
Brilliant video, bravo! 👏🏻
the 2 other guys were trying so hard to not give the GS any points. It really demonstrates that they know its the better watch. like if 3 buff dudes walked in a room for a strong competition and the 2 clearly weaker ones had no trouble complimenting eachother but were really trying to not give the obviously strongest one any compliments.
I have a seiko astron and i love it
I like the GS Snowflake and Tudor but that Zenith is not worth its value at all in terms of asthetic design nor high quality material...sheesh
Zenith Defy wins. Undeniable cool factor
I chose the Tudor Pelagos.
there’s banter…then there’s this
Brandon sooner or later must accept there is nothing wrong being bald.
We need more banter. 👏
SEIKO DIVER LX is better or the best.
Ok what is up with dude’s McDonalds logo shirt? Am I the only one to notice this so far ? Agree with a few others on the grade 2 titanium on the Tudor is pretty shocking considering the price and the fact as someone else mentioned you can get a grade 2 titanium piece for 400 bucks in a Zelos. The only thing the Tudor brings to the table is the movement being really fantastic. Myself I would take my modded Seiko over all 3 any day. I’m not scared about it being stolen or being robbed of it. I can simply make myself another one for a touch over 100 dollars and I can get exactly the style I want. I guess I have evolved from being a collector to a watch enthusiast. Just my opinion. Cheers anyone who feels differently.
Why does that Zenith have a date? The watch would’ve been perfect without one
All these comments about how much everyone likes Brandon, it's a real shame it appears he's no longer with Hodinkee 😕
GS by far the best watch, Tudor boring, might as well buy Seiko with history, Zenith is Ferrari, you want it.
The lad has a hat on indoors… so 2024! He seems so smart and normal
Love the snowflake, owning mine close to 4 years now. 🎉
All these guys saying under 10k at the beggining as if everyone has 5 other titanium watches over 10k. Hodinkee needs to humble the f* up
This was very fun
Brandon, why did you abandon your channel?
I buy titanium because I’m allergic to nickel which is a big component of stainless steel. That and I’m too poor for precious metal.
A watch the size of the zenith in titanium is ridiculous it weighs too little .
No ProPilotX??
FINALLY ITS BAAAACK
