The thing about build quality is thought that if you compare a current E class which is still a nice car to the quality on a 90s E class, the 90s E class will just be way better in terms of build quality
Mercedes have focused more on luxury than quality in recent years. And that’s due to the wants of their customers. They make what people want nowadays. That said, Merc used to be & still is, the best engineered vehicle till date.
@whalesbaba12 you sure about that? If you look at the internet you will see countless stories about people complaining about the quality of their newer Mercedes models and how cheap things feel.
Mercedes seems to be focused now on just adding as many interior lights and screens as possible. That's not luxury as you put it.

I'm not actually surprised as your videos are the best way of sorting out MBUX etc. I'm sorry I didn't get this question on your system in time for this presentation, but I'd be very grateful for your advice. In previous cars with earlier versions of the Satnav system I could save my present location, e.g. if out in the country miles from anywhere which was very useful for birdwatching sites etc. However I can't find out how to do this in my new car which is around 4 months old and has the latest version of MBUX. Biggest difference is the way both of them look. Also ntg 7 comes with wireless android auto and apple car play. If you've got a facelift a class or cla, you'll have ntg 7.

I’ve owned Mercedes vehicles ( mostly E series) since 1995 and can definitively tell you that the product quality has improved over the years. There was a time that electronics failed over and over, even fuel gauges were would fail and be inaccurate most of the time. You put up with this stuff because it was what you did. Finally, around 2010 Mercedes became less problematic. What really bothered me was my second car was usually a Honda CRV……which never had mechanical/electrical issues and frequently had bells and whistles than the MB!

I would agree, my S213 has so many issues compared to my S212 especially the engine. But there is more tech in the 213 I guess. The engine problems are caused by the emissions they need to comply with though I guess as this system too is more complex than my 212.

Whenever I’ve been into a dealership & asked for the information you present the salesman just looks at me like it’s some kinda got ya quiz. Loved the video, wish I had seen earlier to submit a question, but after watching almost all your video's, you have answered so many things for me, not sure what I would ask. BTW, the Insulated Acoustic Glass is something that we have in the states. Its only 150-350 option depending on which car you get. Adrian has it on his 23 GLE AMG 53, however sadly my car's don' t have it. I guess it would be silly on my Cabriolet..

My former boss started buying diesel Mercedes in the seventies, a new one every few years, usually when they introduced a new model. This worked fine until 2002, when he and his son bought a new W211 E320CDi each, both fully loaded with all the gadgets. One of them had so many problems that Mercedes took it back after 6 months and replaced it with a new one. Both had many electronics faults, leading to replacements of several major components under warranty.
Undeterred by this, when the CLS came out 3 years later, they ordered 2 of these, again fully loaded, which they arranged to collect from the factory. Before they even left Germany, one of them had faults with the auto transmission, which ended up being replaced after they got back to England. Both had a number of electronic faults, although the one with the transmission fault was the worse. Eventually he gave up with that one and has never had another Mercedes. The father kept the other one and has still got it 19 years later.
One of the E-class was sold to another family member and kept for another 12 years, but that had 4 ECUs, 3 instrument clusters, 2 ABS modules, among numerous other electronic failures, over that time.
I was the mechanic at the family car hire business, so I saw all of this first hand. The mechanical engineering on these cars was still superb, but it seemed to me that they had introduced all these complex electronics, in the race to offer more features than their competitors, before they had sorted out reliability.
This was some time ago, I only started my UA-cam Channel in 2020 so have a little bit of coverage of cars prior to that but not too much. Some of my earlier videos will relate to cars back to 2015 / 2016 but I wouldn’t be able to comment on anything prior to that.
Certainly the car I have now and everything I’ve got my hands on is super luxurious!

If you have a touchpad in the middle of the car, it should have a back button (left) and home button (right)
If you press the next track button in the middle it should bring up a menu at the bottom. Either that or swiping left or right without pressing (depends on the car though) 🤓

Well the issue is with plug-in hybrids is that you may potentially be looking at the wrong stats and the WLTP measurements you will have seen don’t help. They’re not really built for hybrids, I’ll explain so bear with, I wrote this out to others too.
When it comes to MPG readings, hybrids should also be using mpkWh. It basically depends on the journey you do. So for example, if you drove 2 miles up the road, went into the shops then drove back and the engine didn’t switch on, you will have achieved 999+ miles per gallon, because you haven’t used any gallons of fuel, just electric.
Another example, same trip but if you accelerated hard at the lights just once, then drove normally for the rest of it, then your MPG might be around 300-400 MPG because it averaged out on electric for most of it.
And the final example, same trip again but this time you drove there on electric and then drove back with the engine on “Battery Level” (this mode uses the engine) then your MPG might be around the 100-200 MPG mark.
Miles per gallon is very tricky to work out on hybrids because there is another source of power pushing you around which throws off stats. MPG is used to measure how much fuel we use, where as electric is measured in MPkWh (miles per kWh)
This is why that figure seems high on short journeys but less on longer journeys. Of course the more you run on electric and plug it in, the better your MPG will be but with a plug-in hybrid you don’t have to complete a journey.
Its my understanding that in Merccedes cars (e.g. the S Class) with the ability to set up a driver-specific profile (either in the vehicle or with the app), you can include in that profile your preferred default driving mode, e.g. eco or sport, etc. If that's true, it would be a way of setting the default driving mode to something other than the Mercedes default of Comfort.
No sadly Dynamic Select or the drive mode on any car will always default to it’s original one. For Mercedes it’s Comfort. Something to do with regulations I believe.
Love your channel. It has helped me immensely learning my new car. Question….i live in cold snowy weather. At times I would like to suspend my windshield wipers upward to avoid freezing rain and snow while parked outside. I can’t get them to slide upwards past the little shelf above them. Mercedes 450GLE 2024. Thank you.
Try turning the car off when the wipers are up on the windshield . I have to do that on my GLC 300.

Random question… thinking of getting an A class… sometimes it’s easy to knock the windshield wiper stalk behind the wheel in another car. What happens when you accidentally knock the drive select stalk whilst in motion?
If you did do that, the worst that would happen is the car would go into Neutral.
Just pop it back into drive 🤓
Reverse isn’t possible if the car is moving as your foot needs to be on the brake and your speed needs to be under at least a couple of miles an hour to go to reverse.
Congratulations Nick, just quick question I have a facelift 2023 CLA A180. I noticed the rear view camera constantly opening at slow speed. Is this normal?
I asked Mercedes this years ago and this is what they said.
Reversing cameras used to be just mounted on the exterior exposed to the light conditions which made it show the image instantly. Because they were on the outside they got dirty very quickly. However newer styled cameras now have a retractable housing which is good for keeping it clean but the camera when it pops out has to expose for the light (daytime / nighttime / low light etc) and it can take seconds before it actually shows you an image.
To combat this Mercedes will have the camera “pre-pop out” as you slow down so when you do select reverse, the image is shown instantly.

You’ll have to check with Mercedes for options etc as it varies round the world. They have brochures and configurators too!

Congrats Nick on 100k. Been looking through you vids for something re the latest Merc key; in particular keyless go security. Took delivery of a new C class just last week and noticed the keyless go key seemed quite a bit different to the E class I had traded in. I could switch that key off with a double click but not the new one it would seem. I also read that a statement from MB claimed that the double press on the previous style key also shut down/isolated electrical access ports, thereby deneying unorthorsied access to the electrical system. Don't know how true he latter is but a walk through of the latest key security etc would really be appreciated as I have so far been unable to find anything on this.

@@npoleary Thanks Nick, Followed the link then realised I had already watched it. Mine is the new chunkier key with no red LED. The process you mention does seem to stop the keyless go signal but it doesn't switch off the ignition transponder signal. ie I can get into the car with the keyless go signal switched off and the car will still start up. If the key from my old E class was double pressed the car would display 'no key detected' until I pressed the open button. (Need two keys to prove this.) Double press one. Then open the door with the other key and then place that key out of the ignition's transponder range. Return to the unlocked car with the double pressed key in your pocket and the car wont see it until you press unlock. I have read that the new keys now shut down the transponder signal if left static for 3 or 4 minutes. But if that is so the thinking seems a bit flawed. ie. If I visit friends, I could be sat in their front lounge at night with a brand new C class parked outside making a very tasty target for car thieves. But I now can't switch off the transponder signal manualy and it won't switch off automatically itself as the key is in my pocket is not stationary. I would need to get my pockets lined with tin foil.🙃 Never felt the need for a Faraday pouch with the E class but that seems a must now with this new key, but that would only be when in my pocket which isn't really very practical as Faraday Pouches tend to be a bit bulky.
It works with the new key too, you can turn it off.

@@npoleary Tried it a few times now and it only seems to switch off the KeylessGo with the ignition transponder signal remaining active. I'll have another scratch of head and another try in the daylight. Could be me and sticky fingers I guess. Just out of interest I tried a different combination of buttons and when I opened the door the ventillated seats fans were going at full speed 😆 but of course no AC running. I did think that could only be done via the Merc. Me app and only on EVs and PHEVs but it seems not as mine is a MH drive. Thanks for taking the trouble to respond.
I have an E400 - my 7th E Class and definitely the worst quality since my awful W210 - boost problems, gearbox problems, navigation system problems. Your videos are great but it also points to another problem: the user interfaces, that used to be best-in-class, are now poor in terms of usability.
Hi Nick, just changed my 2021 A class to 2024 cla. The obvious changes will be the mild hybrid system.
But after a week of driving, i noticed that "eco" mode feels more jerky compared to non mild hybrid. As when im coasting the car feels like it will pull back in a small instant and it "charges up the power bar for the 48v batt". Other than that it feels decent to drive in comfort mode.
And i do always turn off the auto start/stop system whenever i drive. Im worried it will cause harm to the engine. But in this current era, i do think im overthinking that too much as obviously technology improves heeps over the years.
Can u also share your thoughts on should we be using the start/stop system or just deactive that.

Well the start / stop is the most advanced one in mild hybrids. They don’t have starter motors but starter generators so they’ll outlive or outperform any starter motor before it.
Cars are designed to do these days, manufacturers wouldn’t put it in there if it was going to cause harm.
The more opportunities for start / stop in a city, the more fuel you’ll save.

I have just got a 72 plate 180, keyless go, but can’t get the key to disable, we have tried everything, is this because there is a motion sensor in the key fob, hence it’s not needed? Thank you for all your fantastic content!

You could do, I might get an extended warranty on mine when it runs out just in case.

Talking about build quality, I am now running my 2nd V class (Would have prefered a VW T6.1 but the boss wanted the Mercedes badge). The 1st V class in the 2 years I drove it had to have the electric handbrake replaced twice, the upstream NOX sensor replaced twice, Number 1 glow plug changed, The upstream Turbo temperature sensor replaced, 2 Bottom ball joints (Which Mercedes had passed on the MOT 2 Months before) and The rear AC pipes Replaced. Also Mercedes rip off their customers by charging for things most other garages would include in the labour costs (and i'm talking about costs on top of the labour costs) like £46 + VAT to remove and replace a wheel (Charged 4 times when the handbrake needed fixing twice) And £110 + VAT to remove and refit a small plastic panel under the engine (Charged when they replaced the bottom ball joints). Pretty poor show Mercedes!
Is it that Mercedes is declining or is it that other brands are elevating which is deceasing the gap between the quality and features that Mercedes offers? A Ford Fusion that I rented on vaca has about as many options as my C300
Hi Nick, love your input to us Mercedes owners, I have a question for you, I have recently picked up a 2023 Mercedes C300e estate and I am struggling to set up the easy access option. I have switched on the relevant switches in the vehicle comfort settings but the driver seat actually moves forward on opening the drivers door and the steering wheel doesn’t seem to move at all. Can you help ?

Ah this is a very common question! Basically and in a nutshell it only works in certain seating positions.
Sadly for me being 6ft 2” it won’t work for me because I’m too tall.
Easy Entry/Exit will only work if you are shorter in height and need the seat to move back further away from the wheel in order to get out.

Thank you! It depends if they have any left! I believe Mercedes have stopped production of it for now so we’ll have to see what they do!
Oh and don’t worry about parts, once a car is made Mercedes will have parts and servicing for years and years! Don’t forget Mercedes still offers parts and service for classic cars! 🤓

I asked Mercedes this years ago and this is what they said.
Reversing cameras used to be just mounted on the exterior exposed to the light conditions which made it show the image instantly. Because they were on the outside they got dirty very quickly. However newer styled cameras now have a retractable housing which is good for keeping it clean but the camera when it pops out has to expose for the light (daytime / nighttime / low light etc) and it can take seconds before it actually shows you an image.
To combat this Mercedes will have the camera “pre-pop out” as you slow down so when you do select reverse, the image is shown instantly.

Ah you / or someone would have pressed allow when it was set up for the first time. Not sure how to do it on Android but on iPhone it’s under settings.
Have a look on Android under
Settings
Apps
Look for Mercedes me
And Disable the Calendar
(it won’t be on the app itself, it’ll be under the phone settings)
If you can’t see it, have a look under
Security & Privacy
Privacy
Permission Manager
Have a look in Calendar there

Yes Mercedes was a dream car for me and after getting it I was disappointed about the build quality. My A class has bad suspension. Rattling dashboard, speakers makes buzzing sound at 50% volume, 35mpg and list goes on. I think A class should not be called a Mercedes. My friend’s Yaris is better than A class.

Suspension’s very smooth (compared to the previous version). I had one on loan while my car was repaired and it’s night and day difference!

Hi! My question is whether I can have the car automatically lower when I put it in park & turn engine off to get out of the car (vehicle is a 2024 AMG53 GLE Coupe). Also, the console “height” switch behind palm rest won’t do this. I have to bring up the Car Functions menu and hit the onscreen “Lower” button. Thx!
I don’t believe so, I remember seeing that on the GLE there was lower button on Quick Access but you had to press it each time.
Sadly not seen the new one though so don’t know if it’s different!

Hi Nick, first of all, congratulations for 100K and the time you spend to share your knowledge. I'm owner of GLB from 2023. If I may ask, I quite often receive rain notification even though I'm parked under the ground. Am I the only one facing that issue? Second small issue is when I'm driving, the GPS is half second late which can be annoying when 2 exits are close to each other on the road. Is there any way to solve it? Many thanks

Oh I’ve heard of that feature before however anything I guess could trigger it. A bird standing on the car or a leaf falling near the rain sensor could trigger it.
Although if it’s happening often, I’d suggest chatting with Mercedes to get it checked out!
Sadly same goes for the Sat Nav I don’t think anything on car settings can alter the speed of it but if you think something’s not right just chat with Mercedes and they can take a a look 🤓
Could the decline in merc quality be due to their units that they manufacture on the USA? Quality control has suffered on US builds.

I also have a question/problem: I have a Mercedes S500 4matic 221/1071k1/ncaab500 and I cannot synchronize both fob keys. sometimes it works for a while, but afterwards he forgets, and I have to open the door again with the enclosed key blade. very annoying. I’ve covered Mercedes on my UA-cam channel back to 2020 and a few models prior to that but all S-Class’s I’ve been in have Bluetooth so not sure what to suggest although I’m sure Mercedes would be able to help and certainly if keys aren’t working
I have a 2023 GLB35 just hit 4k miles and am ready to try launch control. From what I read: you activate brake hold and slam the gas to the floor. Assuming that all the condiditons are met, it will go into launch mode and take off. Now before I try that, I would like to hear from you how it is done, thanks. I trust you.
Haha sadly not driven a GLB 35! So not 100% sure on the process but I’ve heard race starts are the same. It’s exactly as you described providing GLB 35’s have it. (Sadly as I said not driven one before so not sure on that one)

Hi.. There is a software function that is supposed to adjust the driver's seat and steering wheel up when exiting the car. All the adjusters work fine and the steering wheel raises automatically when I open the door but the seat does not move automatically. Is there a way to activate it?
Ah that can happen in any car, depends how it’s configured by the manufacturer. In Mercedes cars basically and in a nutshell it only works in certain seating positions.
Sadly for me being 6ft 2” it won’t work for me because I’m too tall.
Easy Entry/Exit will only work if you are shorter in height and need the seat to move back further away from the wheel in order to get out.

How do you get the tune mix list to work? Called Sirius xm they said to call Mercedes which I did. Mercedes has no Idea how it works. MB 21 GLE.

MBUX NTG 7 has a few more like Spotify and Apple Music as well as Tidal and Amazon Music.
NTG’s are generations of multimedia systems so that’s what’s found in the latest models. Sadly they’re not software updates

@@npoleary No it is the messages that come on when something disturbing happens on the roads on your route. For example accidents that block or delay the traffic etc. Here it's called TA and you can turn them on or leave them turned off.

Hello, Nick. Before buying my 2023 GLB 220 Premium Plus Night Edition, I researched your UA-cam videos. Such a wonderful car etc. So much so, that I bought one from the Sytner branch at Colindale, London. However, the vehicle I received was not the one that I ordered - as numerous Standard features were missing [microchip shortages/pandemic] My complaints were ignored, and I tried civil litigation - I gave up there as, in reality, it does not work - corrupt, and confusing with a never ending amount of incomprehensible documentation to complete. I gave up. My advice to you is this. [1] MD make amazing cars [2] their problem is that they have contracted 'sales' to the American multi-National Penski. In the UK, Sytner carry out the 'sales' for MB, on behalf of their parent company Penski. [3] you ought to consider: issue a 'caveat' in your videos about the 'missing' standard features when a person considers a purchase of a MD. Of Note: I informed MD in Stuttgart, Germany, and Penski, USA - I received no reply from either.

Oh no that’s not good, well yes most car dealers in the UK across all manufacturers are operating in a similar way to the way you describe. Quite often it’s called a Franchise model where dealers will sell and offer cars on behalf of the manufacturer.
Mercedes I believe refer to their dealers as Agents, however they do communicate any spec changes to them so whoever was looking after you would be able to run through any impacted specs from cars over the past few years.
Sadly I can’t comment or offer extra any guidance on that as I do not work for Mercedes or a dealer. I independently review cars on UA-cam covering not just Mercedes but other manufacturers too so you’ll have to chat with them if the car you’ve bought isn’t right.
I always do mention that specs vary across all manufacturers as I have viewers from all over the world so I don’t usually go into that level of detail with specs but when it comes to any changes due to the semiconductor shortage, the dealer would need to explain what’s different on that front.
Does Mercedes recommend tire rotation for 4matic cars?
Sadly never owned a car with 4MATIC so not 100% sure on that one
As long as they’re not different sizes, I can’t see that being an issue as I rotate tyres on my front wheel drive car every year

No sadly not automatically, it’ll go off as you drive above 10mph ish.
You could press the back button on the multimedia system. That’ll close it straight away 👍🏼
Hi nick , my partner has an A180d with the mbux system, her phone is connected etc but quite alot of the contacts are missing , is there a way of quickly downloading the contacts?
Contacts always go across automatically (if you press allow) however if some are missing that makes me think you may have an Android.
Androids allow contacts to be stored in various places from the phone itself, to the SIM card or even Google.
For Mercedes to read the contacts you’ll need to ensure that the contacts are on device and not anywhere else.
On the phonebook (on the phone as it’s nothing to do with the car) try to find a menu option which allows you to share the contacts to the phone (not the sim, Google or anywhere else).
Then change the view to “Phone only”.
Next time you’re back in the car it’ll show them all.
If on the other hand it’s iPhone, disconnect and reconnect everything back up should sort it.

Specs will always vary from car manufacturer to car manufacturer 🤓
In the case of an EV, a car manufacturer would prefer you to use the in built Sat nav mainly because it’ll integrate with public chargepoints. Mercedes integration is very good!
For non EV’s, it just varies. Each manufacturer has their own specs that they choose and it’s what makes them different.
@@npolearygood answer, but I still use Apple CarPlay on my AMG in preference to the fitted Mercedes system. The reason being Siri is great for navigation on the fly. Whereas the standard voice control on my 2018 is to, to put it mildly, rubbish. Room for improvement I would say and let’s hope in more modern versions it’s reaching Apple levels of effectiveness.
Oh absolutely! Voice assistants on phones will fly past car manufacturers tech purely due to the fact that a new comes out every year! Car manufacturers have new cars come out usually every 3-4 years which means there will always be a slight overlap.
However…AI is coming to virtually everything this year with even rumours that Apple might be doing it too! If they are we’ll here about it in the summer!

I have a question
My 12 month old C220D Estate has an issue with the battery
We went away for 10 days in the summer and came back to a flat battery, rang Mercedes and the RAC came out and charged the battery, did a diagnosis and everything was fine, no software updates available
We just went away for a week and started getting messages from the app says the battery was low and functions on the alarm system would be switched off, got home in time and drove the car for an hour, no issues
Problem is we will probably go away for 2 weeks in the summer, for sure the battery will die 😢
Any suggestions?
The only other issue has been the software changed to Arabian on its own, that was a little bit tricky to sort
Maybe put it on a trickle charger?

Oh how strange, only that I’d suggest a mechanic / garage or Mercedes showroom check it out for you. You could get a trickle charger to help but it should last longer than 10 days (but of course it does depend on the state of charge first before you go away) and how often you drive 🤓

Pretty sure you can say Hey Mercedes what’s the weather and it’ll give you a forecast so I’m guessing it might be that. Not sure on the weather map though, not seen any weather forecasts apart from that.
