Etymology and Origins:
The name “Ghim Moh” has a couple of theories behind it:
One theory suggests that it loosely translates to “golden hair” in Hokkien, possibly referring to the British soldiers who resided in the nearby Holland Village during the colonial era.
Another theory proposes that the street name means “luxuriant brocade,” as there used to be many jewelry shops and goldsmiths in the area.
Facilities:
Ghim Moh estate consists of 28 blocks.
Schools that were once located within the estate include Ghim Moh Primary School (which merged with New Town Primary in 2008) and Ghim Moh Secondary School (which merged with Jin Tai Secondary School to form Clementi Woods Secondary School since 2007).
Raffles Junior College was also situated next to Ghim Moh (Mount Sinai) from 1984 to 2004.
The Ulu Pandan Community Centre is within the estate.
Ghim Moh also has a wet market and a food centre, along with several coffee shops, salons, dental clinics, and medical clinics.
It is near important locations such as the Ministry of Education Headquarters, Fusionopolis, Rochester Park, and Biopolis.
Transport:
The nearest MRT station to Ghim Moh is Buona Vista station.
Several bus routes serve Ghim Moh and terminate at the Ghim Moh Bus Terminal, making it convenient for residents to travel around the city, including to Orchard, Harbourfront, and the Central Business District.
Political Representation:
Ghim Moh belongs to the Ulu Pandan division of the Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency.
The current Member of Parliament for Ghim Moh is Christopher de Souza.
Notably, between 2001 and 2006, the Member of Parliament was Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan.

Located right next to Chuan Kee, Kong Shang Hua Wanton Noodles opens early to serve delicious and filling Wanton Mee. Their star dish, Wanton Mee, comes with thin noodles tossed in a generous amount of sauce. The noodles are delightfully springy, and the dish includes plump dumplings2.
Guan Kee Fried Kway Teow (#01-19, Block 20 Ghim Moh Road)
Guan Kee’s Fried Kway Teow is worth the wait. This Michelin Bib Gourmand stall serves Char Kway Teow with a slightly long preparation time. The dish features flat rice noodles stir-fried with eggs, Chinese sausage, bean sprouts, and other flavorful ingredients.
