I get a lot of people asking me how I know spies are around, the answer is a good pair of ears (headphones) and constant awareness. I even get triggered by the decloak sounds of my own team mates, just to give an idea of how paranoid I am. Is that healthy? I don't think that's healthy.
Meh if ik I can trust my team to warn me, I'm not as paranoid, but when solo queing, I am more paranoid than a wild shiny pokemon when people are shiny hunting
@@trashrabbit69 im not rlly a pyro main i dont rlly main anything i like to play every class most of the time, but watching mr.paladin videos is what made me spy paranoid
11:55 that's why you gotta use some random voice command just before you hit the full charge. The medic will instead shout "I am the ubermensch" for instance.
I personally like the "positive" voice commands over the "cheer", as they are generally much quieter. Masking your charge, while also not having the enemy know a medic is around, or more importantly, the spies knowing, can make for quite the push.
That beginning bit on D at Upward when you said "Who bumped me?" that was a Scout. If you keep an eye on the left side before you say that, you can see him jump up to the second floor using the rock to do so.
This is the kind of tutorials I want to see. I don't want to hear about stuff I already know I should know (but is slow to try them out). I want tutorials that should emphasize on the sounds in the game, not just the visuals. If you want just tutorials where it points out the flaws in your playstyle, then you might as well unplug your headphones and turn off your sound completely. Listening to the noise of the game, and not just the character callouts or verbal ques, you can begin understand how to respond to situations differently. Callouts like "I am fully charged!" and "Spy around here!" are easy to hear. However, sometimes you have to turn the battlefield into background noise. If you pay attention, like the "5%" of the game do, then you begin hear things like a spy decloaking behind you while you are revved up as a Heavy or determining what level a sentry is based on its beeps alone. If you can divide the sounds up, then you can tell certain noises out of a "herd of noisy cattle" to say the least. Without sound cues from everything, even the little things, then TF2 might as well be a noir movie without the audio
That is nice sound idea for the spy thinks because if the spy is noisy the enemy know where u are and if u are quite the enemy will not gonna know during the enemy is in the mid of the fight
I see what this is. As a pyro main myself, I use sounds to dictate where any sneaky French bois are, specifically decloaks and footsteps. But when you remove the sound, it’s harder to analyze and figure out the sounds. I’m onto you, Paladin
I really liked this particular How a Spy Thinks. I have a decent headset, and I can react to the major audio clues (spy decloaks, I am fully charged, etc), but I still have trouble properly reacting to more subtle cues like enemies calling for medic, or a medic calling for a healing buddy. Nice to see some of that in action.
Even as other classes, sound cues are so important. As a huntsman sniper, going for a medic that just called out with a ready uber, or hearing the sound of a sentry as a demo or scout, or hearing the rev of a minigun stopping or the sound of flames absent as literally any class.
Yep, as a non-Spy (or am I?) more than half the time I'm screaming spy in game is because I hear a decloak without even seeing a spy. Sadly in casual half the team doesn't even react to a spy call and often find a dagger in their back shortly after. On the rare occasion I get a team that reacts I imagine the enemy Spy doesn't have much fun...
Like the idea of playing with the sound off, as an experiment. I've done the same--*ahem*--by accident, when the speaker got disconnected or I hadn't arranged my headphones yet... Of course, I wanted to get the sound back as soon as possible, but while the sound was off, I found myself trying to be as aware of the environment as possible, just in case any spahs or backburner pyros happened to be about. Great concept for a video.
I love it when you teleport to the front lines and Spawning Wall Hacks let you know the enemy Spies and their disguises. Another thing is, as Medic, you can change the amount of health loss for teammates before you get the notification. I have it on the lowest percentage of health lost. This has let me "see" Spies in cloak before, as long as they are disguised as a teammate I presume. I mostly just use it to keep my team's health topped off, but I figured it'd be interesting to someone.
I have been actually forced to play with no game audio because my headphone chord is broken. Sometimes if I get the chord into the right position I can get sounds to come through, but with great disturbance.
This is pretty cool. The technique is you have to nope out and reset on a stab without audio stimuli. and because no audio to alert you to an engi crying out or enemy players using the audio cues. They are a big part of setting up and carrying out stabs. This is an interesting way to show that.
This is a interesting video because a lot of my playstyle in games is relying on sounds to my advantage and it's even useful as a heavy main just hear other heavies or says and danger it's a useful sense that it's one of my most powerful allies
Id love to see this man play sniper. I’m not a sniper main, but seeing the new round where the medic was behind him and got picked by the sniper just made me think.
New trickstab: if you are being followed by an enemy (on any terrain) dont look back, just stop your movement out of a sudden and he will continue to chase you, but when he realizes, you are behind him ready to backstab. Tip: you can circle around the enemy if you cant just go back. All of that really fast.
Niiiice! Any plans on making videos about how to carry or at least be a harder to defeat team when your teammates suck or you have too many snipers and spies on your team :)?
Of course some people have a better concentration without sounds, for example in vsh. I prefer the sounds not only to be aware of spies (imma spy main btw) but on snipers or pyros walking in the backlines or coming from the spawn. Sound is a really important part in TF2 in my opinion. Thats it have a nice day/night
I was explaining to my buddies last night I can hear a spy de-cloak from a mile away. He's right you know! Keep your ears open! You might just hear something lol
Here's an interesting challenge, see how well you can do as spy using only sounds. spawn in, then blindfold yourself and see just how well you do with only sounds and map knowledge to guide you.
Hey, do you think you can do a Your Eternal Reward, Cloak and Dagger loadout? Now you can disguise with the YER now at the expense of losing all cloak, but with cloak and dagger, as soon as you lose it, just cloak and sit there and wait for it to regenerate. If you can that would be amazing if you havent already. Ive tried it and It works well, but Im not a spy main like you so you eould pull it off better.

Well, you are a Pyro main, I think Spy awareness bordering on schizophrenic paranoia is all part of the job.

yes, truly a modern work of art, like woolen's borgor
he should have tracked it: one voice does the lead, another does the extra, and the third does the percussion
;)

the "negative" is even quieter.
@@Naleksuh Okay, thank you. I will be sure to keep that in mind.
A good medic can guess your Uber by timing. I just do fake fully charged vcs to throw em off.

tf2anti I know but it's an ironical situation
The 16 people who disliked this are jealous of Mr. Paladin, because they can’t make such perfect music
they are the people who decide it's better to play games with no sound
You're such a great teacher. You've taught me plenty on how to play spy more effectively with this series. Thank you

You obviously weren't going to get support from the Medic because you weren't doing the voice lines! Remember Operation HOOVY?
Mr. Paladin gets rid of all sounds including intro, but then adds custom sounds to replace it...
I love it 👌😀
very good video, loved the contrast it really illustrated how important sound is. thank you for doing what you do and sharing it with us:)
If only spy had a pop-out eyes cosmetic because it would have been perfect for this video.

The moment you play as spy and lag when behind an enemy, about to backstab...
Every single time
and then randomly died after the lag
