American megatrends makes a bunch of generic bios’ for oems and stuff. chances are your current motherboard has some underlying version of it just fancied up by the manufacturer. :3
if you happen to be installing many different linux distros i would reccomend making a ventoy thumb drive so you can boot into all your ISOs from a single drive if you want
I have been using Ventoy for years. Handy and very easy to use. If the drive is big enough, you can even leave a partition on it for some programs you install on a regular basis. Or use it to make the distribution you are trying out persistant ( change the /Home folder to the partition to save your settings and work ).
That small hole is a Kensington Security lock slot. From the wiki... "The Kensington Security Slot (also called a K-Slot or Kensington lock) is an anti-theft system for hardware electronics such as notebook computers, computer monitors and others. It is a small, metal-reinforced hole used for attaching a lock-and-cable apparatus. It is produced by Kensington Computer Products Group." In the 90's you'd find Kensington lock slot's on everything.
2:05 that's a kensington lock I'm pretty sure; it's to tether it to a desk as an anti-theft measure. you usually see them in use at best buy and the like to tie floor models to the kiosk.
Haha, I am proud I finally get this joke. Don't use this one! It's like the alt-f4 joke on steroids. "rm" = "remove", and this command will remove everything on your Linux computer. If you want to try Linux, the distros I'd recommend, not require you to use the terminal to start out, including Debian. All I did, just a few months ago, is watch a couple instructional videos on how to put it on my shitty laptop and before you know it, you are in love with Linux.
If you want, you could replace that tiny SSD or HDD with a 2TB SSD and make the thing much more useful. First 2 things I do with such machines: higher capacity SSD and max out the RAM to the most it can handle. Including the old HP Probook, similar to the computer you did in the video, on which I'm posting this comment. Linux rocks in this older hardware! And in newer stuff as well.
i guess i've never really looked or thought about it when in the BIOS. i think it just stood out this time around specifically because the rest of the screen was in japanese heheh
10:27 You can choose where to boot from under the 'Boot Override" options instead of changing the Boot options. 12:39 Is 1 GB of swap partition enough? I wonder if it could be resizable later on after install.
You can change the size of the Swap partition later. But it will take a wile, as the partitions and the partition table have to be rewritten. Takes a really long time if using an HDD. Nowadays you can use a Swap file, so it does not take up permanent disk space. I always make a separate partition for my /Home folder. When I need to reinstall a distro, or want to try another distro all my documents and settings ( when using the same Desktop Environment ) are safe.
"it only has 256 gigs of storage" lol. my old hp pavilion g6 don't have any internal storage and is currently running linux manjaro perfectly on a sandisk 128gb usb drive, yep a whole linux manjaro os on a usb stick. i also have another linux distro (linux mint 22 wilma cinnamon edition) installed on another usb stick
your japanese seems right first time with the mixed reality app, in english its called "mixed reality portal". also, did you notice you can change uefi language where it said "japanese" on the first page? or am i mistaken
I honestly really want a Lets Note Laptop. Idk when Companies stopped putting in Disk Trays into laptops But I honestly have a BUNCH of DVD's that i want to watch on the road. Because Sadly I cannot Bring my VHS player.
laptops from america:
laptops from place, japan:
LOL
Colonizing the laptops? Smh.
Liberating
WILD
Implying the Japanese weren't colonizers
Yes because Japan never colonised anyone

The Chode hole is actually a micro HDMI port, a lot of office projectors use it
it looks a lot like a kensington lock port to me, though i could be wrong about that
@@tomcruiseREALyeah, there’s no connector in the port so it’s got to be a Kensington lock. Wouldn’t make much sense to have hdmi and micro hdmi
It's aKensington lock slot lmao
having three lightbulbs right above a wad of dollars is so real
OMG I ALWAYS WANTED A LETS NOTE ITS SO CHARMING
IT LOOKS SILLY BUT PROVIDES A GOOD AMOUNT OF UTILITY AHHH I WANT ONE SO BAD !!

American megatrends is really common in the computer firmware business
Yeah AMI
pretty sure you can use that thin chrome circle around the trackpad to scroll. it's like the one advantage to it being circular
i can see the laptop, not enough stars on the thumbnail
i cant believe you would cockblock us from the epic dvd drive opening
i know nothing about coding this is like cocomelon to me
'sudo rm -rf / --no-root-preserve' does everything you need automatically

The "graphic design is my passion" thumbnail brought me in

i love installing linux on old laptops
I have Debian 12 running on my 2009 Imac and Zorin 17 lite on my 2010 Macbook Pro.

True. Microsoft give you windows, but Linux gives you the whole house.

American Megatrends is one of, like, three total companies that make BIOS firmware, IIRC

You should install the North Korea OS next
You installing the OS is literally the cutest thing I've seen today

If your planning on keeping the sd card in the laptop I would mount the sd card as your home partition.
Yes, I also do little songs while my system is installing
does kiwi use windows
How much did that end up costing you? I'm interested in getting one myself! 👍
i waited 14min and 20s and there is no DVD slot openning, disappointed!
