For whatever reason when I convert my bursh to a patch, my square cylinder looks messed up, 2 sides are visible and 2 sides are invisible. Idk what the fuck this guy did but mine sure doesn’t look like his.
This is a fantastic tutorial! I've been searching youtube all day to find a tutorial on curves and terrain creation in the mod tools and this is perfect! Also having the shortcut keys onscreen in top left is the best thing ever! Thanks so much dude!
For some reason my bevels aren't perfectly lined up with my arch and I made sure everything was lined up before I turned it into a bevel. I followed step by step but I can't get it to be perfectly lined up with my arch, it's always sticking out at the top a bit :(
Pretty late so not sure if I will get a reply. But when trying to curve vertices it doesnt seem to move like in the video. For example on the very first part of you curving the wire when you slightly curve the end piece in place, if i highlight the end pieces then press r to rotate it curves like the whole cylinder. kinda like where you curve it 90 degrees in place. Not sure if I explained it well enough
Hello, is there a button in the menu to raise/lower the vertice count? i cant use the shortcut because i got a german keyboard ^^ thanks for the vids btw
I have a little problem, when moving the middle vertices of the cone (7:45) to the height of the top one, my vertices go over it and I can't position them correctly. Like, they're a whole "cone" above where they should be. Do you know what's happening?
Bro thanks so much for all of these tutorials but I have a question: Instead of splitting the faces from the original brushes to fix the textures, can we just select the Face using CTRL+Shift+Left mouse and then connect them with each other and then apply the textures? I can't wait for the Beta release and please keep doing these amazing tutorials :)
That is another way of doing it, basically there are many ways of creating the same thing in Radiant (which is why its a great tools). Its really up to you on how you want to create these particular shapes, but this is how I do it :)
That's just how a square cylinder works, since it is a patch it will only apply the texture to one side (unless the material itself is set to have the texture on both sides like a chainlink fence or something)
i have a lot of options that dont show me when i click them, why?? the fx browser, the pose manipulator, the gVertex Color, the entity list, somebody knows why?
So since these tools aren't actually released to the public right now, what would you suggest we do in the mean time? Something to maybe start practicing and working on map development like recommended softwares to download, etc.
im sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but you cant go through bevils right? like they are solid surfaces correct? like actual solid surface that nothing will go through it.
@@JBird632 oh crap. I was using a brush. So can I do loop cuts and everything to brushes as well? I haven't gotten to any tutorials past this one so sorry if you covered that already

Hey Jbird :) Do you know how to get the advanced patch editing options to work? for me whenever I try to click to do anything, I just end up moving my patches around everywhere :/
Hey, your tutorials are really helpful, but I have a problem. I tried if I could even play my custom map and when I tried to load it, it said "could not read fastfile". Any help on what or where I messed up?
In the Black Ops 3 Mod Tools Launcher, you must check your map, check the boxes compile, light, and link then click build. After that is done, then uncheck compile, light, and link. Then check run and then click build. Hope it helped
yo JBird632 do you know how to make the patch like solid so no grenades can get under it and you can walk over it without seeing through it (i used Advanced Patch Editing Options) btw great vid man i liked! keep up the great work!!
it works now thanks maybe it was because i was using a "blend" texture e.g: concrete blend. do you maye know how to make a "blend" texture visible (so that people can walk over it and no grenades will get under it and you cant see through it? :) thanks in advance man!!
By default patches should have player and weapon collision, so if yours aren't colliding with things then just select it and right click in the the 2d grid and select "Make Structural"
Hey dude, how can I like cut something out. Like when i wanna give the ground on one part another texture. like how can I split the floor in certain parts?
Well if you are dealing with a brush you can cut it by doing the following: 1. Hold ctrl and then right click in the 2d view to place 2 points (these points will create a line, and the brush will be cut along that line). 2. Hold ctrl + shift and press enter, this will cut the brush along that line.
Hey Jbird. My map needs a cliff on it and I plan on making my own but I want to know if it is a good idea to use a terrain patch and slap a cliff texture onto it. I would of course make the terrain patch very detailed with a lot of vertices getting tweaked but is there a better option or am I choosing the right choice? Thanks
Not sure if all of the features are also in World at War but it should be really similar if not the same since radiant didn't really change that much in how you do stuff.
Hey, do you know how to make separate brushes of the same texture blend in? i made a long wall and it looks bad because the texture is repeating itself, so i messed around with the x and y of the textures so it looks like one big wall but u can see the lines and edges where they separate and i want them to blend in somehow. Ty for the tuts
prntscr.com/ed3u2y i want all those textures i put on the wall (which are all the same just positioned differently) to all blend in without it looking like its repeating it over and over.
Thank you very much. I tried to download Ragnarok but my game crashes everytime I try to run it, and it is definitely not because my PC isn't powerful enough. I'll try out your maps later for sure.
There are some cases where you can't increase the vert count (patch is too small, have too many vertices, not the correct type of curve patch/primitive)
I was invited into the closed alpha from Treyarch, only a select few people have access to the tools at the moment, but later this year the mod tools will be released to the public.

It is like the mystery box but instead of regular weapons it gives you a random wonder weapon that can give you anything from The Winters Howl to the Wave Gun to even the Lightning Staff. Of course it would be a little costly but I would love to get your opinion on this idea.

Cool, alright. Thanks. Looking forward to playing your maps 👌🏼 keep an eye out for mine lol.

Thanks for the tutorial jbird this will help so much on a map I'm planning for when the mod tools go into beta or release
I really love your tutorials man! your easy to understand and interesting to watch. I can't wait to get my hands on these tools!
who did you learn your bevel work from originally black jack johnny? that guy is a absolute god at mapping.
Yup, I think originally a lot of people watched his videos.
how do you do the drag to select? when I do it, it doesn't do anything. is there a specific setting i need to enable?
The drag select only works in vertex mode, if you try to drag while you are not in vertex mode it will just create a brush
for some reason i cant get my brush's to weld together after cutting them for a door, would you know how to fix that?
THX FOR great tutorials:) i have a question ,how can i make a cylinder object to players cant walk through ?
If you create a cylinder patch like in this tutorial you shouldn't be able to walk through it.

im sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but you cant go through bevils right? like they are solid surfaces correct? like actual solid surface that nothing will go through it.
all patches are solid on the side of the texture, though you can go through the side with no texture
aye thanks man! So basically its a 1 way can't enter if yo udo pass through it you didnt even know you did cause you couldn't see it. Got it.
I'm not able to box select anything. Laft click dragging only moves things around. Did they change it?
Sounds like you aren't in vertex mode. Press V to go into vertex mode.

Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V

There is tutorials for waw
Some of them are transferable, but keep in mind that the stuff that does transfer to World at War, it might be slightly different.
