I have the Fluval Breeder Box. It seems that the Ista Breeder Box is a better built breeder box. There is a price difference, so I’ll get the Ista Breeder Box. Thank you for sharing.
I just bought the fluval one and I noticed two of the clips you put on wrong. Because it’s not a frameless tank you don’t use those two clear clips. Then if it overflows the water can exit. Thanks for the video. Was very helpful!
Correction: The clips in the front are not needed for a framed tank. There is a second overflow that runs in the whole front that is lower. Then would waterfall off the front if needed to overflow. Just set mine up with hydroponic plants and loving it. I will say the rubber ring the fluval comes with is not very good. It ended up snapping. Had to rig something else up. Would recommend to seal the tube with glue before putting in as now I must run on full air so air does not escape from the connection.
All you have to do is cut a long, narrow piece of coarse foam sponge and run it up the intake tube about five inches. It cuts the glugging down dramatically.
Lol thanks I was really excited to get them I had been wanting to try them out for a long time and this was my first time trying them out. Learning as I installed is exactly what I did lol. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you I really appreciate it!! I just checked out your channel you have some nice videos I really liked your diy box filter I made a similar one but after watching yours I see I went way more complicated and I like your design better :)
can you verify if those intake tubes that supply the water to the boxes are the identical size ?.. OUTSIDE DIAMETER OF TUBES.. i want to make something that must fit universally to either box ... THANK YOU
I can say that after years of use, the ista is still the best. The fluvals uplift tube is falling to pieces. I still have them on the same tank and configuration as in the video... thank you for the comment enjoy your new ista :)
Yes, you can! But with the size of pipes, these have the flow is too low to be really effective over time I have ended up using them as planters and scud colony holders the scuds have done great and enough end up getting washed into the tank to keep the fish happy. If you make DIY uplift pipes using 1/2 PVC or some other piping it could work as a filter pretty well.
@@MORONI88 They're from Taiwan and make a wide range of hobby accessories but unfortunately most aren't available in US and EU. Pretty well known brand in the SEA region.
@@sincapinkuzusuhuhuu1278 You cant go wrong with ISTA either. Ive been using their products for years and they are solid. I have aquascaping accessories, breeders, hob filters and others. Like i said, its not a noname brand, its good and resonable for the price.
Which connections are you talking about? Only thing I have needed to replace was the rubber o-ring that goes between the the two sections of pipe but I had to do that on both Ista and fluval was able to get better orings for a few cents that have lasted a few years now with no issues. Are those o-rings the connections you are talking about?
@@MORONI88 I bought mine when they just came out. I suspect they've changed the parts. I should have said the pipe that connects to where the air line goes. On all of mine if just melted and fell apart

Interesting, I will have to try that out. Thank you for the tip.
Thanks for this video. I enjoyed this because you seem like a regular fish guy learning about these as you installed them.

Could you tell me whats the noisier box?
As far as noise goes they are pretty much the same I suggest putting a valve on the airline so you can control the sound
Great review
Thank you very much I appreciate that!
I just realized.... Couldnt you set them up like a HOB filter? But air powered? Ima buy some and try it out lol

Very good answer and great name :)
They would make really poor mechanical filtration but could be used for biological. They work great for plants as well which is filtration.
You could buy $5 5-10watt pump for better flow
On canadian Amazon fluval is $18 and ista is $33
Wow, that is crazy the ista is better, but double the price better, probably not lol
you can get the ista one for $18 if u were to buy it from a website call big al, they r vendor from canada.
Where's the buying link ?
Sorry thought I added it I will get it up there in a moment
Hey I added them to the description of the video now
ISTA isnt a noname :)
Gotcha I have never heard of them before. What other products do they make? Personally I do prefer their box over the fluval one.
