Excelente! Dios te bendiga!
Awesome man! I actually barely found out about this kind of equipment( midi keyboards etc) and am currently saving up and I can't wait to test these out for church! Great cover btw
Could you do a tutorial on how you set up mainstage with the MOXF8? I've tried to set it up and mainstage recognizes the keyboard but will only play the built in sounds instead of the ones on mainstage.
Jazzyfay s When you use MainStage sounds, they don't come out of your keyboards audio output - they will come from your computer's audio output. What you want to do is get your computer's audio output to your sound board or other audio equipment. If you do this from your computer's headphone output, the audio quality will be reduced, so I'd recommend a audio interface that uses XLR or 1/4 inch connecters for a higher quality sound.
The MOXF8 is a little unique in that it can actually be used as an audio interface for your computer. I can do a more in-depth walk thru of the setup, but here's what you need to do... Go to "Utility" > [F6] "MIDI" > [SF2] "Switch" and then use the cursor keys to scroll to "Local Control"...set it to OFF. Be sure to hit "store" to save those settings. That will turn the internal MOXF8 sound engine off and allow only the computer audio to pass thru the main outputs of the keyboard.
Thanks Joshua! I appreciate the comment. Since both the patches and the backing tracks I'm using are "purchased" products, I'm not really able to redistribute those...but you can get the keyboard patches from www.chrislangmusic.com/, and the backing tracks from www.multitracks.com.
Fantastic! You running mainstage off that with the two keyboards? Would love to know more about mapping the pads to changing the samples. Using Control change in midi or?
Thanks Man! I've been trying to set some time aside to do a walkthru video of the MainStage template. But here's a basic breakdown of the setup. The Akai drum pads are sending CC#s which are mapped to mute buttons in MainStage...muting/unmuting each layer so I can turn them on/off on the fly. There are 2 instances of Omnisphere sending to 5 audio channels via the "multi output" plugin option in MainStage... Instance 1: 3 main synth layers (Yamaha keyboard) Instance 2: 2 lead layers (Akai keyboard) Here's a breakdown of the button assignments: Pads 1-4 are top row, left to right....Pads 5-8 are bottom row (left to right). - Pad 1: Main synth layer 1 mute/unmute - Pad 2: Main synth layer 2 mute/unmute - Pad 3: Main synth layer 3 mute/ummute - Pad 4: Lead layer 2 mute/unmute (lead layer 1 is always on) - Pad 8: Lead 2 (3db) volume boost (for solo) Hopefully I can get around to making that walk thru video soon, but hope that breakdown helps a little bit.
Wow that's awesome, thanks very much for the response! If you want some help with the walk through I May be able to help you out with that! Keep it up (Y)
Hi Jonathan, I'm actually only using the MOXF8 as a MIDI controller here...all the sounds you hear are coming from Omnisphere 2. Sorry, wish I had better news for ya.
¡Hola amigo!
Hi Ryan, because I'm using a purchased template myself I can't really redistribute that without doing a disservice to Chris...but we're using Omnisphere 2 for all the synth patches. I'd recommend contacting Chris thru his website (www.chrislangmusic.com.)...and see if maybe he can make the Omnisphere patches available outside of the MainStage template. If you have access to MainStage, you can just purchase his template, save each layer to your Omnisphere user library and then pull them into Ableton however it works best for your setup..that's actually what I ended up doing.
its me again, thank you for your support last time, I'm trying to decide for the Mac and I have the option to buy a pro 13.3 with 4 gb of ram and I can upgrade it to 16 Gb Ram all for only 1200 im on Mexico and is the cheapest way to have a good equipment, do you think that I will be able to work with mainstage and omnisphere?
+Orlando Ramirez Hey Orlando, I'm assuming it's a new or newer model MacBook Pro? Omnisphere (more so than MainStage) is really CPU intensive, so you definitely don't want to skimp on the CPU power (sounds like you already know that though). 16GB of RAM would definitely be ideal. I know the new 13" MB Pros come with dual core CPUs instead of the Quad-Core that the 15" has. You will still be able to do a good amount with the dual core...but if there's ANY way to spring for the 15" quad core, you'll have far less limitations moving forward. I know there's a significant price jump for the 15" so I totally get how that might not be an option. All that being said, the new 13" MacBook Pro's are more powerful than the 2010 15" MB Pro I'm running in this video. So you should definitely be able to run what I'm running here with no problems. For example sake...according to Geekbench.com, my 2010 MB Pro scores 4344 in the Multi-Core test, and the new 13" MB Pros average a score of 6877...so you'd have almost 60% better performance than I have if you go with the 13" 2.7 ghz dual-core...plus you'd be running 2X the RAM. In short...I'd still definitely recommend the 15" quad core if at all possible, but with the 13", you'll be in better shape than I am with my 2010. Hope that helps...
+Orlando Ramirez well the good news is, the mid 2012 13" MB Pro still scores better than my 2010. So, my last post would still be true...you'd be able to do everything I'm doing here and then some.
+Evan Fernald i have already the macbook with 16 Gb RAM , and i also bought the Akia that you have, can you please tell me how to configure the pads as a buttons and not as a notes? Best Regards. God Bless YOu
You know, I'm actually not using any of the internal Yamaha sounds, it's all coming from Omnisphere 2 hosted using Mainstage 3 on my laptop. The first sound in the intro is a fairly basic saw wave oscillator so if you're comfortable building sounds from scratch you could probably get pretty close with your MOX6.
Thanks Christopher! I'll be putting together a full walk-thru of my setup for this song very soon...but the short answer, I mapped the drum pads to channel mutes for each synth layer and ran the pads in CC/toggle mode.
Hi Josue...to answer your question, in MainStage, each pad is assigned to mute/unmute the different synth layers that are in the patch. So each layer has it's own channel strip and I'm just muting/unmuting those channels throughout the song.
I'm not using anything inside the MOXF in this video...I'm solely using Omnisphere 2 for the sounds and some build-in MainStage plugins/compressors/EQ's. In the future I may try to put together some Yamaha patches for anyone not using a laptop or plugins.
Hi Josue, thanks for the comment! I've used a variety of setups for this song...you could totally use your mpk61, I've played it all on a single keyboard before as well, you'd just have to get a little creative with how you split up the keyboard/synth layers. The thing that's handy about the MPKMini is that the drum pads are so easily accessible to your right hand without having to take your fingers off the keybed...making it possible to turn the different synth layers on and off seamlessly without having to move your hand at all. With the mpk61, the drum pads are a little further away so I would probably set it up something like this: Main synth part (left hand) - always on...split from the A below middle C and down 2nd layer (left hand) - on/off via any drum pad...same split as above 3rd layer (left hand) - on/off via any drum pad...same split as above - Lead layer 1 (right hand) - always on, split from the D just above middle C (D3 I think) up to the top note of the keyboard. - Lead layer 2 (right hand) - always on, split from A4 up to the top of the keyboard. Then you'd be able to add/remove the main synth layers with the drum pads using your right hand, and then jump the octave with your right hand to move from the lead during the choruses and the lead in the interludes and solo. At least that's what I would do...you can totally set it up however it's most comfortable for you. Hopefully that all made sense, haha.
Evan Fernald thanks for replying back! True I've seen at times to that the drum pads on the akai mpk61 aren't always reliable and quick, I see that the mini made it quick and easier for you. How were you able to connect both keyboards together?
Josue Saldana I have both keyboards connected directly to my laptop...so they aren't connected to each other at all. Mainstage in my computer is the app that brings everything together and talks to both keyboards.
Evan Fernald nice to know thanks! Last question love how you have both keyboards and laptop close to each other. Did you use a stand/stands? If so which brand?
So in this setup I'm using two music stands...adjusted to lay flat and rest on the top of my main keyboard. That gives a flat table top-like surface to put the laptop and mpkMini. It's basically two of these... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MusicStd
+Ruth Soria Hi Ruth, sorry for taking so long to reply. The first layer isn't a stock patch from Omnisphere, its a custom made with a single synth oscillator (not sample based) using the "SawSquare Fat" wave. The 2nd and 3rd layers are modified also, but are based on the patch called "Fame Epic Synth".
Hey Orlando, it's the Akai MPK Mini MK2 www.guitarcenter.com/Akai-Professional/MPK-Mini-Mk2-1395412411161.gc?country=us¤cy=usd&source=4WWMWXGP&gclid=CLHNmYOMisoCFUOVfgod7fYKxw&kwid=productads-plaid%5E144143626122-sku%5E1395412411161@ADL4GC-adType%5EPLA-device%5Em-adid%5E78244844802
+Evan Fernald Thank you, i love the way to played this, i was using ableton on windows but i'm about to get a Macbook pro with 4GB of ram but thinking to upgrade it to 16 GB and i saw the controller, it is very useful i only have now a Nanokontrol 2 from Korg.
+Orlando Ramirez Thanks bro, I initially just got the Akai so I'd have a small portable keyboard for "Starbucks" programming without having to lug around 88keys (haha) but it turned out to be really useful live as well! I'm running it in CC mode to allow the mpc pads to be assignable buttons. In regular mode they work as additional notes...just FYI if you pick one up.
Oh my God! You are very good. Blessings.
Wow! Just wow! This is just too cool. Great video 👏
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excelent play..God Bless U
Thanks Daniel, this is currently one of my favorite songs to play!

Gracias MeLanie!
Fernald Music Gracias
WOW AMAZING CONCENTRATION OF HANDS! I really find it difficult for the combination of left and right fingers
Thanks so much! It's a challenging song for sure...but really fun to play.
Good stuff my friend keep it up 💯💯💯
Thanks Ralph, I appreciate the encouragement. I'm really trying to find time to post a few more songs.
Killed it.
Thanks my friend!
Awesome man! I actually barely found out about this kind of equipment( midi keyboards etc) and am currently saving up and I can't wait to test these out for church! Great cover btw
Thanks Bro, you're gonna have a blast once you get rolling. Good luck!
You've Just Nailed It Bro. :)
Thanks Neil, I appreciate that!
You're Welcome.. Can You Make A Drumless Cover for that? :)
+Neil Lopez I might be able to put that together...If I can make it happen I'll shoot you the link once it's up.
thank you bro.. keep uploading new videos :)
you are awsome dude !! smoth cover (Y)
This is the Best!!!
Realmente muy bueno!!! Son sonidos del omnisphere 2??

any tutorial on how to set the gear and patches up?
This is Awesome :D

Omnisphere (more so than MainStage) is really CPU intensive, so you definitely don't want to skimp on the CPU power (sounds like you already know that though). 16GB of RAM would definitely be ideal. I know the new 13" MB Pros come with dual core CPUs instead of the Quad-Core that the 15" has. hey man! nice vid! what did you assign on the MPK mini drumpads? thanks. God bless you
Thanks Christopher! I'll be putting together a full walk-thru of my setup for this song very soon...but the short answer, I mapped the drum pads to channel mutes for each synth layer and ran the pads in CC/toggle mode.
thanks man! excited to watch the walk-thru. (:
How do you create different sounds for each pad, on mainstage 3?
Hi Josue...to answer your question, in MainStage, each pad is assigned to mute/unmute the different synth layers that are in the patch. So each layer has it's own channel strip and I'm just muting/unmuting those channels throughout the song.

I'm not using anything inside the MOXF in this video...I'm solely using Omnisphere 2 for the sounds and some build-in MainStage plugins/compressors/EQ's. In the future I may try to put together some Yamaha patches for anyone not using a laptop or plugins.
Awesome video! Quick question I have an akai mpk61 would you still recommend using the akai mpk mini as well?
Hi Josue, thanks for the comment! I've used a variety of setups for this song...you could totally use your mpk61, I've played it all on a single keyboard before as well, you'd just have to get a little creative with how you split up the keyboard/synth layers. With the mpk61, the drum pads are a little further away so I would probably set it up something like this:
Main synth part (left hand) - always on...split from the A below middle C and down
2nd layer (left hand) - on/off via any drum pad...same split as above
3rd layer (left hand) - on/off via any drum pad...same split as above
- Lead layer 1 (right hand) - always on, split from the D just above middle C (D3 I think) up to the top note of the keyboard.

The 2nd and 3rd layers are modified also, but are based on the patch called "Fame Epic Synth".

Wow amazing cover. Can you please share your mail id??
Thanks Jay! I appreciate the compliment. My email is fernaldmedia@gmail.com
