Context of piece within the plot: The Rhinemaidens guard the Rheingold in the depths of the Rhine. Alberich, a dwarf, tries to woo them, but they mock him. Afterwards, the gold begins to shine as the sun rises, and the Rhinemaidens rejoice around it, singing about its magic properties: the power to rule the world by forging a ring, at the cost of renouncing love. Alberich, furious of the Rhinemaidens' teasing, curses love and steals the gold.
Cues will be added, if necessary, during long periods without singing.
