Hi from France I asked an English friend about the origin of the boxing day and here is his answer : 'The name comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants, and the day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.' Thank you for this interesting video (like the others by the way )

In Colombia, we have this celebration called 'novena' which literally means ninth, and means 9 days prior to the 25th of December where people gather at their homes to prayer, read the bible, sing some christmas songs and share some snacks... it's more of a catholic kind of tradition but it is really fun as many people gather, and at the singing time we are all given instruments to play along when singing, it is a joyful time and surely full of different snacks to eat! =)

Hello, guys, thank you for this wonderful video and for raising my Christmas mood! I’m from Russia, Moscow. In fact, I was sure that almost all over the world people celebrate New Year and Christmas in the same way. Oh I lovvve decorating the Christmas tree, hanging garlands wherever possible and watching movies 🍿!
I like to spend this holiday with my family at least two hours, and only after that I can go to my friends to celebrate all night.
By the way, the tradition of “Boxing day” has different stories as to how it got its name. One explanation goes like this - In the 19th century, December 26th was a day that servants to wealthy English people got time off. The servants were given boxes with Christmas presents and food in them to take home to their families. Another explanation has to do with collection boxes for the poor, but, these days, some people think of Boxing Day as a time to deal with all the boxes and wrapping left from opened gifts.
And now it's time for me to go to buy some gifts (great timing) and then I hope to go sledding because you inspired me to do it!
So, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, guys!!🎄🧚🏻‍♀️

I celebrate Christmas on the 7-th of January. Children go to houses for singing carols and households give them money or sweets for that singing.

Merry Christmas 🎄 Here in Czech children believe, gifts come from Ježíšek (baby Jesus). We celebrate 24th, after christmas dinner (traditionally carp and potato salad) giving gifts, singing carols, on table must be tiny christmas sweets and decorated gingerbreads. There are christmas cribs in many churches or outside on squares and people walk for watching them. On TV are mostly fairytales. 25th and 26th is about visiting between families and friends🎄🎁⛄

Hey guys! Thank you so much for this amazing video! I really enjoyed watching it.
I am currently studying English at the university in Moscow. And learning any language includes studying culture, of course. That’s why I was so happy to know all the differences and similarities that British and American Christmas has. Thank you for telling us about the preparation for Christmas, about the traditional dinner and the dishes it consists of, about the decorations you put in and out your houses. I have also never thought that Santa Clause and Father Christmas are different ways to actually call the old man who brings us presents! I am also very grateful to get so many Christmas movies recommendations . I have plenty of them to watch now to create some Christmas mood and atmosphere! ✨✨✨
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! xxx

Greetings from Moscow Linguistic University! I am so grateful to our teacher for sending us this video! It was very interesting to learn about the traditions of celebrating Christmas in America and the UK. I learned a lot of new things: what the residents of these countries do on Christmas Eve, when they buy gifts. As for shopping, I am very surprised that Black Friday can be life-threatening!
I really felt the atmosphere of the period before Christmas when you described how the streets are decorated. It is so cool to see these lights in central London, this stunning and perhaps the most famous Christmas tree in the world, which is located at the skating rink in New York. I dream of seeing with my own eyes this giant tree in front of skyscrapers. I also dream of seeing how houses are decorated outside in America and feeling this spirit of competition between them.
It was interesting to hear about office Christmas parties!
It's great that there are so many Christmas dishes and unexpectedly many Christmas desserts. It's so interesting to know that you leave some gifts for Santa Claus. You have described very well how Christmas is going, what games you play, what you eat. It's great that Queen Elizabeth has been congratulating the people of Great Britain for so many years!
I wish I had seen Santa Claus at the mall as a child. Children in the UK must be the happiest!
    Thanks for the video.

Thanks for this wonderful video! I was happy to know more about Christmas celebrations in the UK and the USA. It is very nice of you to insert pictures and videos! Like Ethan, I was convinced that Christmas crackers were some kind of specially decorated crackers (which are eaten), so it would be difficult to get it right without the photos. The vocabulary items were also useful to me: I didn't know the words "stampede" or "nibble".
I'm from Russia, and it has always surprised me how different our cultures are as here in Russia we don't celebrate Christmas. I think only Orthodox people celebrate it on January 7 (according to the Gregorian calendar), while the rest do not think about this holiday at all, or for them it's just another reason to get drunk. The main holiday of the year for us is New Year. So it's no surprise that a lot of information was new to me.
Thanks again for the video and happy holidays! :)

Hi Ethan and Andrea, boxing day because many years ago the priest would give a box to very rich families..these families would fill the box with presents, food or clothes for poorer people..they would then give the box back to the priest..then on the 26th ,if you didn't receive any presents or food on Christmas Day the priest would let you have a box filled with presents...Happy New Year eve !

Hey guys, thank you for this nice video! It was really marvellous and catching! And it was so interesting to know some more facts about differences and similarities of British and American celebration of Christmas. I guess that a part of the video about preparation for X-mas day and food was the most exciting for me.
I will definitely watch your another video about X-mas films. And you know, after watching this video I had a sudden desire to celebrate X-mas in UK or USA😂
Merry Christmas and Happy New year,
    with love from Moscow student❤️
P.S. I really enjoy your speech and pronunciation😻

    A big Hello from Russia😊
Thank you so much for such a nice and, I dare say, relaxing video!
It gave us a great opportunity to peek into Christmas traditions of 2 cultures: the UK and the USA, just for about 30 minutes but anyway
I am really interested in cuisine so I was excited to learn about new dishes ( and of course I set on to taste all of them later🤩) especially I'd like to try desserts puddings/pumpkin pie and of course chocolate yule log.
    It looks so yummy
It's embarrassing to admit but I have never heard about "Boxing day"...
It's said that our "christmas traditions" are completely different ...I don't think so😅
We also have such films which one can find on TV all the time during our Christmas holidays.
A kind of "must have "films🤣.
Your vocabulary is on point! I wrote down quite a lot of interesting collocations )
I was extremely surprised to learn that "Father Christmas" is treated in the UK with a glass of sherry 😅
I find "christmas games" to be fun, especially "Christmas crackers"😄
Again, thank you for such a cute and informative video!
    Best wishes,
    HNY!

Before I studied British for many years because of my English scores were often bad.
After that I began to study American English because of VOA international radio.
I found that American English pronunciation is better than British English pronunciation.
If you listen to BBC broadcast and VOA international radio broadcast, you must get their difference about pronunciation and tone.
