Just want to let people know that the back road out of Hana is dangerous, this needs to be seen, not shown enough by the media. 2 people from California were carjacked and then they were chased on foot by their carjackers/ carjacker driving their rental car many miles before they were helped. They have arrested the person they think did it. But people need to know this road is not safe. I’m not saying Maui is not safe, just be prepared. I believe this happened less than a week ago.
Mahalo for your comment. I read the story..that road is currently closed to the public and yes, it's very remote, with most rental car companies not allowing their cars to go in that area. Scary situation indeed !
@@HawaiiWalkingTours from what I understand someone had told them it was OK to use this road. In 1990 my husband and I were told we could come back on that road, we ended up turning around after about 5 miles on the main road as we were both very carsick. This should be a well known fact for tourists not to drive that back road. Car rentals companies most people ignore their rules. Just an FYI for tourists as this road is used by locals it will most likely be opened again. Please be careful local people are safer on that road than tourists.
We did this road two years ago (and actually the year before). We didn’t encounter any issues except one area where it was a single lane and we had to back up to allow a car to go by. It is scary to drive past, though, so not for the faint of heart. Locals will tell you not to drive it as the little towns are mostly Hawaiians and they prefer that visitors don’t drive through. Not sure about recent events in that area, but never heard of any crime along there. Just more about avoiding it as the locals don’t want tourists driving through. It is the scariest road we drove on Maui with regard to how narrow and windy it is. Car companies don’t want, people driving it because parts of the road are rutted out and may just be dirt. We didn’t see that at all.
I am currently residing in Montreal Canada and it's been my dream to settle down in Maui and run a restaurant one day in the near future. Hopefully my dream would become true as soon as possible.

We have never seen a life guard stand or life guards at Makena. Is that new? I do know you have to be careful with the waves as a woman broke her back when hit by a wave several years ago.
How long does it take to fix the lift station? Why haven't you let us go home for 11 months while we pay for the condominium, mortgage, taxes, repair work?
Black Rock snorkeling is amazing. Turtles, Rays and Monk seals.
Yes we love black rock ! We have a video of spotted eagle rays in Ka’anapali if you haven't seen it already. 😎🤙
