      Thank you very much. I have heard that several Vienna Highflyers were imported to Australia in the 1980th but I don´t know what happened to them in the past 40 years.

    Schönes Video, wie immer sind die Aufnahmen aus der Luft die spektakulärsten, vor allem weil man dabei die Flugmanöver besonders gut sehen kann. Gut Flug und gut Zucht für dieses Jahr. LG Jonas

    Beautiful pigeons an Photography. I just bought two pairs hoping they fly with my Budapest high flyers. Do you think they can fly together for 2 to 3 hours?

    • @CuMulusDancerZ
      @CuMulusDancerZ  Рік тому

      Yes, there is no problem flying Budapesters and Viennese mixed. Both breeds are closely related. The flying time depends on weather, health, genetics and nourishment. If all parameters are right, 2 to 3 hours are possible.

    Great videos just subscribed. I have read your detailed explanation re questions about length of fly and you have quite correctly pointed out that it's about speed agility and height. What sort of height can they go up to? I have Birmingham Rollers and unfortunately I am getting hammered by the hawks. Would you say these birds are good at evading BOP's. I see you fly them portable as well, do they train easily for that and do you loose any to overflies? Sorry for all the questions but I'm desperately looking for the ideal performance pigeon that I can enjoy without losing too many like Birmingham Rollers. I watched those Vieshian Blacks, Robert Lockwood's creation, and they are pretty impressive but don't think they are in South Africa where I am from

    • @CuMulusDancerZ

      Hi PetPot, I have had exactly the same problem like you many years ago. I was member in the NBRC, bred Birmingham Rollers for ten years and had sometimes big Hawk and Pegerine losses. Due to this reason I changed to a very agile strain of Viennese Highflyers. Believe me or not, I have not lost a single bird by birds of prey since four years. I don´t care for competition flying. My breeding aim is a falcon resistant top flyer. That is my personal kind of competition. I will try to answer your questions. 1.) What sort of height can they go up to? The flying hight depends on the weather. Ideally the fly in spot hight (>800 meters), that means that the wing beat of the Viennas is invisible. As more wind, as lower they fly. If we have good thermal conditions, they fly sometimes invisible (>950 meters). 2.) I have Birmingham Rollers and unfortunately I am getting hammered by the hawks. Would you say these birds are good at evading BOP's. Yes, absolutely. That is the most BOP- resistant breed of today I know. Hawks are not a problem at all. I can't remember a hawk ever catching one of my Viennas. For Viennas hawks are the same as buzzards for Birminghams. BUT not all pigeons of that breed are equal!!! The resistance is depending on the strain. If a Vienna breeder do not care for BOP-resistance and only select for long flying, he will loose nearly as many like a Birmingham Roller breeder do.
      3.) I see you fly them portable as well, do they train easily for that and do you loose any to overflies? No, I don´t fly them portable. I released them out of the basked only for good film effects. They are by far too nervous for portable flying. In earlier days, I was a very successful portable loft flyer with my Birmingham Rollers. I wrote an article in the NBRC bulletin about it in the beginning of 2000. Kind regards to South Africa. I remember the SA breeder were always top in the NBRC competitions with their former Bob Brown and G. Mason rollers.

      @@CuMulusDancerZ Thank you so much for your detailed response, it has answered all my questions. I will have to start looking for VHF breeders in SA with good flying pedigree, hope I can find a strain locally. Yes I have Mason bloodline BR's from 3 top South African fliers that have have each won the World Cup Fly and it is devastating to me that I can't fly them from my home. I don't really want to compete just to have fun. Perhaps I should breed youngsters from these birds and try flying them portable as I see quite a few people have success at this as I really am fond of BR's

    • @CuMulusDancerZ
      @CuMulusDancerZ  4 роки тому

      @@petpot1962 Yes, that would be exactly my advice. If you have good BR bloodlines it would be a shame to stop flying with them. If you have the time, fly mobile! Constantly change your flying location and choose open areas where the hawk has no chance for surprise attacks. Your losses will definitely decrease. The disadvantage of mobile flying is the amount of time you have to invest and the many kilometers you have to drive. But if you don't mind stick with your tried and tested Birminghams and don't start over by zero with a new breed. If you ever find Viennese high-flyers in South Africa, I think it is unlikely that you will find a long time developed strain that is as resistant to BOP´s as my pigeons. Then the disappointment would be great. You would have abolished the BR and with your new maybe bad flying Viennese you would still have similar losses as you did with the BR before.

      @@CuMulusDancerZ Thank you so much for invaluable advice. Yes I think the only way I can pursue my passion for performance pigeons is to fly portable with the BR's. Have read up quite a bit on flying portable and some Toutube videos and will have to find wide open places. I don't mind traveling a bit each day as I'm semi retired and I'm in a small city so distances are not huge. Thanks once again for your pigeon input !

      Vielen Dank für das Lob. Bei der Chronik handelt es sich um eine umfangreiche und fast vollständige Fachartikelsammlung von etwa 1900 bis in die 1990er Jahre. Sie ist leider nirgends erhältlich. Es wurden m.W. nur 12 Exemplare hergestellt. Ihnen bleibt zu hoffen, dass irgendwann mal eines davon in einem Antiquariat auftaucht. Der in Deutschland ansässige SV für Wiener und Budapester denkt darüber nach, die Chronik eventuell nachzudrucken.

    what is the mix you feed them? What brand mix is it? What is Bronchial OL?

    • @CuMulusDancerZ
      @CuMulusDancerZ  4 роки тому

      The brand of the mixture is not decisive. An energy-rich composition is important. Viennas are not long winged thermal flyers like other high-flying breeds. Their flight style needs energy.
      Bronchial oil is good for the respiratory system. Performance pigeons must be absolutely healthy in order to perform optimally.

    How long do they fly on average with this aggressive style?

    • @CuMulusDancerZ
      @CuMulusDancerZ  4 роки тому

      On average, they fly in this style between 45 minutes to 1 hour. After that they become calmer. The zig-zag style is typical for this breed.

    • @adaskoss9228
      @adaskoss9228 4 роки тому

      @@CuMulusDancerZ but are these actual vienna highfliers? I read that Krombach mixed vienna with other pigeons to create this flying style but they do not go up as high as the original highflier vienna

    • @CuMulusDancerZ
      @CuMulusDancerZ  4 роки тому

      @@adaskoss9228 Hi Adas it's the other way around. The Krombach Viennas are an old pure strain out of the 1960th. They show the style of flight at that time, which was common in the past. Into the “modern” Viennas of today Budapest High Flyers and Tipplers were often crossed in. This made the flying style quieter and increased the flight time. A long flight time has advantages in flight competitions. Disadvantages of the cross-breeds are a boring flying style and a high susceptibility to birds of prey. In terms of altitude, the Krombach Viennas fly just as high as other strains. In good weather, the Krombach Viennas reach the spot hight in 5 minutes. If I have time, I'll make a video of the climb. However, they don't hold the altitude that long like the cross breeds due to their energy-consuming flight style. To summarize it. Kormbach was the man who saved the old flying style until today and I try to save his work for the future.
